  • 2015 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Walk around tasting vertical. Big, dense and powerful for Nico's wines. Certainly finessed, nearly approachable, but still brooding. Lots here, cellar for at least a few more years.

  • 2013 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Walk around tasting vertical. October harvest, remember those? Lots of red fruit with just enough ripeness. Volnay floral and spice hints from middle-to-finish. Time in bottle has helped bring out Volnay terroir. I like this more now vs when last tasted in 2016.

  • 2011 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Walk around tasting. Lighter styled but very pretty red cherry and berry, faintly mature, nicely supported with delicate spice and floral notes. Very easy and well balanced. In the middle of its peak drinking window.

  • 2017 Domaine Y. Clerget Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Walk around tasting vertical. Accessible for young Pommard. Slightly sweet red fruit while also well balanced. Good already with sneaky good length. I expect this will put on weight in the cellar.

  • 2016 Domaine Y. Clerget Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Walk around tasting vertical. Much bigger structure, fruit, and concentration. Lots here, very good potential, but not in the near future, probably needs until 2030 or later, 91-92 point potential.

  • 2015 Domaine Y. Clerget Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Walk around tasting vertical. Powerful black fruit, even more firm than the 2015, but probably even greater density. I like the potential more today than when last tasted in 2018, but think this still needs another decade+ in the cellar, 90-92 point potential. That's what to expect from good Pommard Rugiens.

  • 2011 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Walk around tasting. Plenty of red cherry, nothing bitter or green, but certainly still firm. That said, there is a lot here, so this manages to retain its balance with good+ depth, this is good now.

  • 2009 Faiveley Echezeaux

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Walk around tasting vertical. Ripe fresh and dried red cherry and berry with savory spice. Enticing aromas, then bigger and fleshier on palate that will merit a few more years in the back of the cellar. 92-93+ point potential.

  • 2007 Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru

Walk around tasting vertical. Great olfactory start with savory spice, roasted meat, black and red cherry. Similar flavor profile, just less robust and not quite showing Grand Cru density to me. Good length. Good now.

Flight 29 - Clos de Tart (3 Notes)

  • 2014 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru

Walk around tasting in (great) vertical. Dense and ripe red fruit, seeming to shut down vs when tasted before release. This is firm for the vintage, but the concentration carries it through to the long finish. Needs another 5+ years in the cellar.

  • 2012 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru

Walk around tasting in (great) vertical. Great aromas with so much cherry and so much savory spice. Really enchanting start, this follows through on the palate with lots of silky, elegant structure. Even better now vs when tasted shortly after release. Getting close to its peak drinking window.

  • 2010 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru

Walk around tasting in (great) vertical. Great aromatic start is bright and cheerful. Broad cross-section of cherry flavors with good weight, great length and weightless, nearly ethereal textures. Another great 2010 in the early part of its peak drinking window.

  • 2013 Joseph Drouhin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

  • 2010 Joseph Drouhin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Walk around tasting. Charming and elegant, this shows lots of black and red cherry, earthy spice, and faint roasted game. Bright and vibrant with great length. Entering its peak drinking window, another brilliant 2010.

  • 2005 Joseph Drouhin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Walk around tasting. So 2005 with so much fruit, so much concentration, so much tannin, but not lots of pleasure, at least right now. But lots here, and I am confident this will be a great wine...someday. 2030 forward?
