4/24/24, 6:20 AM - Giacosa sourced fruit from Roccalini for years so you're right to draw that comparison. I too, have waaaaay more Produttori than Roccalini but that's more a function of access to the latter being much more challenging for me.
4/26/24, 7:42 AM - Thanks Craig...no rush on these sorts of things. Don't get me wrong, I'm an enormous Produttori fan and very happy to have what I have. However, if I had better access to Cascina Roccalini, I would buy it every year like I do with Produttori. - Jay
4/24/24, 9:22 PM - That's the 2016 vintage in a nutshell: it's super giving in its youth and I'm not so sure it will ever shut down
4/25/24, 11:58 AM - So far...and I've had quite a few. Rest assured, the tannins are there but there is so much balance to be found across Piemonte in 2016.
4/25/24, 1:34 PM - I expect you're going to love the classico.
4/24/24, 9:19 PM - Would love to know what else was enjoyed
4/22/24, 8:57 AM - I wonder if they have adjusted the style of this cuvee because the example I had last week was not oxidative at all. It was linear, bright, and light on its feet.
4/21/24, 10:03 PM - To be fair, this is not your normal CdR.
4/21/24, 10:02 PM - Sounds like my kind of lunch!
4/18/24, 8:47 PM - Meh...vintage ratings are whatever. Besides, we're talking about a producer that marches to its own beat.
4/18/24, 2:59 PM - Fun note. Thanks for sharing!
4/18/24, 8:13 AM - Thanks for sharing your notes!
4/17/24, 8:39 PM - Whoa...thanks for sharing! I only got one bottle of this and I've been holding out.
4/17/24, 7:45 AM - Thanks for sharing the note. How much later?
4/16/24, 1:20 PM - Whoa...that would be a massive bummer, regardless.
4/18/20, 3:08 PM - The bottle came from a case that belonged to a friend ;-)
4/15/24, 1:16 PM - glad the note was helpful @Hollowine! Hope you're well!
9/2/23, 2:48 PM - Great note Seth. Thanks for sharing!
4/15/24, 7:30 AM - LOL...Seth. I just came back to this note. Day 116? Did you really leave this in the back of the fridge for four months?!
4/15/24, 8:04 AM - You will get no judgement from me, brother. Thanks for taking the time to share the full arc!
4/14/24, 7:14 AM - @Radboy thank you!
4/10/24, 7:57 PM - I might even call it youthful.
4/11/24, 7:11 AM - Yeah...it's just so young and primary.
4/11/24, 7:10 AM - Totally makes sense. Thanks for sharing the note.
4/10/24, 7:57 PM - Agreed. Thanks for sharing your notes!
4/7/24, 9:56 AM - Enjoy and take your time with it!
11/26/23, 9:51 AM - I've yet to try this for myself but oof, pretty tough judgment with that 80.
4/7/24, 9:55 AM - ...or one point from being a C 😅
4/5/24, 7:27 AM - Gross. Sorry to hear that.
4/2/24, 10:21 PM - Calling a 14.6% (which actually seems generous to my palate) Zinfandel as "standard" anymore is wishful thinking as we're living in a world where it's routine to see Lodi Zinfandel pushing 16%. If anyone can make a balanced Zinfandel it's Tegan (though there are several others, Rafanelli and Ridge to name a couple). Anyway, it's fun to read a different perspective.
4/3/24, 1:22 PM - We may have a different perspective on balance too. Carlise makes some fun wines but they're big (at least they used to be) and need to be drank in their youth. I've yet to have one that ages well. Maybe they have shifted their style?
4/2/24, 10:22 PM - Thanks for the props Z_WILL
4/2/24, 10:10 PM - Great note!
4/2/24, 11:56 AM - I wish I could afford to drink Burgundy like this more often.
1/10/24, 7:27 AM - Thanks for sharing your note on this Tim!
1/10/24, 7:45 AM - LOL. Likely. Sounds like it's time for an audit!
4/1/24, 9:51 AM - Whoa...this is wild. I opened my bottle last night! Notes forthcoming!
4/2/24, 9:48 AM - KC! Who are you visiting? You should stop by Ca Va for some bubbles and small bites and Chef J for some BBQ.
4/1/24, 9:55 AM - Well...I can pretty much assure you that the bottle was flawed because that's not the intended profile for this wine. That being said, whenever I'm in doubt about a particular bottles condition, I'll refrain from scoring at all.
4/1/24, 8:49 PM - Good call. Regardless, that's a bummer of an experience because that bottle should have been nothing short of awesome.
4/1/24, 10:03 AM - It's an interested observation because I have felt a similar thing however, I also believe that Tegan's Sandlands wines are getting better and better with each passing vintage; becoming more complete. Recent vintages of his Chenin's have show more varietal character and more acid...so maybe they will age a little better than earlier vintages? Hard to say.
3/26/24, 8:07 AM - Great note. Thanks for sharing!
3/25/24, 8:13 AM - Jungle Juice insect repellent...Mmmmm, mmmm! Love the note and thanks for sharing Dale.
3/25/24, 8:10 AM - Ugh...
3/23/24, 1:15 PM - Yup.
3/23/24, 1:14 PM - Oooofff...I have one bottle of this in the cellar. I'll keep this in mind when I open mine...might as well do that sooner than later. Thanks for the note.
3/23/24, 1:12 PM - As it should. Thanks for sharing the note!
3/23/24, 1:06 PM - That's really strange. The corks in mine are natural.
3/21/24, 3:58 PM - Interesting Seth. Have you had much experience with this producer other than this example?
3/21/24, 12:34 PM - Good for you. I wish I had a case!
3/21/24, 12:08 PM - yeah...IMO, these wines need at least 10 years from vintage to become exciting.
3/18/24, 8:43 PM - Thanks for sharing your notes and experience!
3/18/24, 8:21 AM - I'm with Portland Seth! As always, thanks for sharing the notes Motz!
3/17/24, 8:04 PM - I guess it depends on what your preferences are but there is no chance these are dropping off a cliff anytime soon.
3/18/24, 7:01 AM - It's very possible, I mean...we're talking about wines that nearly a quarter century old at this point and who knows what the practices were with the importer and distributor back then
3/13/24, 11:32 AM - AR.PE.PE. study?! Sign me up!
3/12/24, 5:02 PM - Deal! I desperately wanna get out to NYC. I have not been since before COVID. You'll be first to know, Seth!
3/11/24, 7:28 PM - Storage? The bottle I drank last year showed no secondary characteristics and while an argument can be made that they won't get any "better", well stored examples of the 2017 should easily drink well past 2035.
3/8/24, 8:56 PM - Thanks @KillerJones
3/6/24, 1:53 PM - Just now getting around to posting a note from 35+ years ago? I actually have a bottle of this.
3/6/24, 7:58 PM - I figured it was an old note that you were just getting around to. So cool. Thanks for taking the time to share this history. Your notes are an awesome contribution to this community!
3/3/24, 8:49 PM - Agreed. I think it's got some real personality. I believe there have been some changes in the overall approach for this wine in more recent releases. Regardless, I like where these are headed.
3/1/24, 7:22 AM - Great note Seth. I have not tried the 2019 yet but based off your notes, it looks like I will have to grab a couple!
2/28/24, 7:25 AM - Thanks for sharing your notes on the 745. And of course you enjoyed the 738 more; it's based of the 2010 vintage
2/28/24, 9:13 AM - Noted! Thanks Frank.
2/27/24, 2:10 PM - And to be fair, it's still a bargain at the current retail. Thanks for the note Tim!
