11/20/21, 4:30 PM - Good to know Joe. I haven't popped any of my 3 yet. Sounds like I should soon.
9/23/20, 3:26 PM - Drinking this tonight -- our first syrah from this producer. Marianne was confused - syrah on nose but ?Miss you guys and the tastings!
8/28/20, 9:38 AM - RayT -- same here. We had a bottle Jan 2019 which was disappointing and tannic. I was happy to see this come around.
3/10/20, 2:13 PM - Wow thanks Loren!
12/26/19, 5:11 AM - I Purchased the wine from JJ Buckley in March of 2017. I have 1 bottle left, so we'll see how that bottle is. I dont think this bottle was heat damaged but sometimes its hard to tell.
11/16/19, 6:31 AM - It also helps that I have a 2nd bottle! This was the first Carter I had outside of the tasting room so I don't have any experience with ageing them, but due to their tannin management this seemed ready to go.
12/3/19, 4:05 PM - I believe if it is great now with soft tannins why wait!
9/25/19, 3:02 PM - Makes sense -- I tend to prefer polished tannins and loads of fruit in my Napa cabs.
11/18/18, 12:31 AM - Agreed!
11/4/18, 4:14 PM - Joe - just drank a bottle of the 2012 tonight and the oak was quite integrated. You may prefer the extra age.
10/8/18, 4:06 PM - Thanks, it absolutely was!
7/29/18, 8:53 AM - Good to know 🍾Skiver81🥂 -- I typically don't decant or wait to drink champagne, so this bottle was PnP.
7/29/18, 8:52 AM - Thanks for the info 🍾Skiver81🥂 -- I'll be sure to drink this within a year after I purchase them next time.
7/29/18, 8:51 AM - Thanks!
4/29/18, 5:21 PM - Hopefully you don't have many left! This note from 2015 was the last of my 4 bottles.
4/21/18, 6:55 AM - Thanks for the note. Did this need the air time or was it good to go on pop n pour?
4/15/18, 2:31 PM - My pleasure Joe!
4/12/18, 8:36 AM - Hmmm, the blend mix I wrote down is for the 2014 Zachary's Ladder it appears. So I either tasted the 2014 and accidentally recorded it as a 2015, or the blend information Gorman provided in their testing room was out of date. Thanks for the note.
3/11/18, 3:23 PM - Nope - Chicago Wine Company, purchased Jan 2017.
3/8/18, 5:35 PM - Agreed!
3/7/18, 3:11 PM - Dang that is some great stuff at 148% abv. Not hot at all? :-)
1/12/18, 6:32 PM - Not quite, I think it was just less burly & rough. A more elegant Bordeaux would have been great. But yes, sangiovese pairs well with eggplant parm too.
10/28/17, 7:02 PM - :-)
10/22/17, 8:34 AM - With these mid-high level Gormans I tend to like them with 6-12 years on them. So they are good now, but will improve. Since you bought 3, feel free to open one now up check it out. Peak will probably be 3-5 years.
9/7/17, 5:28 PM - Maybe you had an off bottle Joe? We had a slightly flawed R-M last year. We drank another bottle of the 2014 tonight and I think it's better than recent vintages... we'll need to do a head to head!
7/25/17, 3:25 PM - For me it depends -- some cabs are great in the 60-65F range, as they can show too much alcohol at high temps. But this one was best at full room temp.
7/16/17, 5:13 PM - Welcome
7/4/17, 11:10 AM - Thanks Joe -- this vintage looks like another winner!
2/21/16, 5:15 PM - Yup. Enjoy those last 2 bottles -- good luck!I initially bought my first few bottles based on your review, and then continued to buy as Benchmark dropped the price. The last few bottles I purchased went for $15 each... a steal. In the end I had 1 bad bottle, 1 not so good, and the other 5 being good or great.
7/4/17, 11:09 AM - Quite true -- and this wine had quite a ride!
12/21/16, 12:35 PM - Constellation Brands bought the Meiomi brand from the Wagner family in 2015. Also, stated production for Meiomi has gone from 57,000 cases in 2010 to 750,000 cases in 2015. Meiomi is now a mass produced wine.
9/10/16, 4:41 PM - Yes, I was quite surprised by this bottle. I have another one left, so we shall see if it's my palate or bottle variation.
4/8/16, 3:53 PM - Thanks for the tip!
2/22/16, 10:15 AM - Yup -- I plan on it.For the 2013's I found the first bottle that was much improved was drunk in Jan 2015, so I figured the 2016's would have come around by now. Hopefully time gives them some depth!
2/4/16, 4:12 PM - Interesting to see my note held traction. Thanks for the update!
1/22/16, 6:58 PM - I think it's a solid $25 wine which also has some unique traits, so not a bad value at all. But as most things in life are, the hype overrates the item. However, I love that the wines are $4/bottle to ship (regardless of quantity) and RM offers the appellation pinot and chard (which I like better) in the same offer. Very reasonable for a mailing list!
7/8/15, 5:49 PM - No problem -- hope you enjoy!
9/23/14, 3:15 PM - I'm hoping it's either in a dumb phase or I just didn't decant long enough. However, a few years of sleep helps...
4/4/14, 8:59 PM - StefanAkiko - glad you found my comment helpful. I have found aged higher-end Aussie shiraz to be quite eye opening (younger they can just be too much) and well worth seeking out. A unique syrah experience!
3/21/14, 7:00 AM - Thanks for the comment DawgByte. You're right that it definitely could have been higher acid levels and not simply tannins. Either way I view this wine as one that could really use some time, and should age incredibly well for a couple decades.
10/16/13, 6:28 AM - lol, I'll have to make sure I add those "did"'s in the future!
8/29/13, 4:07 PM - Definitely some bad advice! This is a very unique chardonnay from the Jura, and it does take some time to wrap your head around. If you can check your expectations and just experience the wine, you might just find you really like it!
8/23/13, 9:27 AM - For the price this is a very good chardonnay, although its appeal is somewhat limited. We paired it with chicken piccata and it played wonderfully off the lemon notes in the sauce.I was actually more impressed with Hamilton Russell's chardonnay than their pinot noir, which I believed to be lacking in flavor and depth. Both the chardonnay and pinot are stylistically somewhere in between Burgundy and Sonoma, with the pinot much closer to Burgundy.
6/29/13, 7:48 AM - The wine does meet US & California labeling requirements in order to be labeled cabernet sauvignon, but it's actually a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18.2% Cabernet Franc and 6.8% Petit Verdot, so it's not too surprising it's a little more rounded and soft.
3/11/13, 9:34 AM - The other bottle of this wine I bought from them was fine. Unfortunately 14% of the bottles I've bought from them and consumed were flawed, much higher than any other retailer I've purchased from. I don't know if it's due to the age of the wines (older than most of my other purchases), type (mostly French/Italian), or poor conditions of the bottles (all the bad bottles had low fills which they did not disclose).
1/11/13, 10:35 AM - Yes I was worried about this wine before opening but was very pleased with it. I did forget to mention that this was PnP out of a 55F wine fridge, decanted and consumed over 3 hours. The wine took 30 minutes to show, and 2 hours to peak.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
