2/11/24, 9:41 AM - I was able to nab a magnum of this that i will receive in the fall... I know it has been a while, but do you recall when you thought this would open back up for business?
1/19/24, 2:09 PM - When do you suppose this will peak, based on what you just had?
1/18/24, 2:21 PM - Holy crap, Hendmo, aren't you right??? Perusing the tasting notes from this drinker I see a list of unattainable dream wines for me. But I must say, a wine has to be pretty enjoyable in order to be quaffable. The other recent highly rated wines in his list are quaffable++!
1/16/24, 6:29 PM - Now that's a hell of a deal - better than the 2014 Trimbach Riesling that I scored for $6.99/bottle at a local 7-eleven which had been discounted from something like $22 to $18 to $14.99 to $12.99 to $9.99 and then the $6.99 I found it at in mid-2021. No one had any idea what was on the shelf and I only saw it because I had to wait in line to get the chips I was wanting. Bought all 11 of them. Similar strategy.Unfortunately I only have one of these 2015 CCR's. Any thoughts on optimal drinking window? If you are not sure you can send me a case or so of yours and I can drink them over time and let you know...
1/4/24, 3:24 PM - Worked as pop and pour, but do you think this will benefit if opened now from a 1, 3 hour decant? Slow ox? I am planning on having my bottle tomorrow. Can't wait!
12/29/23, 5:58 PM - I have a couple bottles of this but haven't cracked one yet. How is it maturing? Improvement over the next few (or more) years? Hard to not break down and drink one now.
12/21/23, 6:31 PM - I found a bottle of this which I am guessing was a small production wine given the vintage. In this bad vintage, do you think this wine that St. C made would be an appropriate pairing for a traditional beef wellington? Making one for Christmas dinner and am trying to fine something interesting to have with it.
10/21/23, 11:52 AM - Not peaked yet.... but how much longer do you think this has to improve with more development? Wanting to open when it's ready, but not too late. Willing to wait 10 or more years but this vintage has me wondering. Only a single bottle in my possessions unfortunately so appreciate your opinion on this one.
9/30/23, 5:59 AM - I have sampled this wine twice and do not recall it being particularly tart or acidic. While this note does not sound like TCA or Brett got it, I do wonder what happened to your bottle. Hopefully you have another of your own, or at least a chance to try another bottle. To me it is quite modern in style but well made if that is your thing.
9/29/23, 8:41 PM - There are few pairings that can rival fried chicken and champagne, dare I say even with the best of the vintage champagnes out there. Vintage port and Stilton? Saiternes and fois gras?Though I am not particularly partial to veuve, I still will compliment your pairing, sir/madam.
8/16/23, 10:55 AM - Ranked #2 of 12 - was this really 87 points for you? Or 97? I have heard good things from professional reviews and was wondering about this.
6/19/23, 7:53 PM - I have a 750mL of this stored in cellar at 55F for as long as I've had it and I believe through its whole life. Anything you'd anticipate this would develop further with additional aging that would make it worthwhile to hold on to? Or is it as good as it will get from here on?
6/19/23, 7:41 PM - Agree 100%. This wine is ready to go, and I am sure some bottles have some pudge on them. Cellar stored drink now +1 year or so - room temp stored or otherwise casually stored, drink not +up to 6 months. That's how close this is to falling off a bit. Still great to my palate, at least the cellar stored bottles I have had!
4/29/23, 10:17 AM - I purchased a bottle of this on January 20 this year so it is definitely available in the US. Great note - I intend to hold my single bottle for at least 10 years at 55F given your note and others.
4/14/23, 12:06 PM - Do you have much experience with coravin for intermediate age sauternes like this? I am wondering how long they in particular would stay like new with coravin generally.
4/2/23, 10:19 AM - I'm liking this note and it will help me in a decision to hang onto this for at least a couple years, but I must ask - I've never seen "red lava" in a tasting note before. Can you help me understand what else that might taste/smell like? Hoping to pair this wine rightly with the best idea of what I'm getting into when I do have it. Unfortunately though I ordered 2 bottles I only got 1, so will only have one chance on this one!
11/20/22, 10:58 AM - No rush to drink, glad to hear... but do you think this will improve significantly with more time? I tend to enjoy more mature sauternes, but not when it is browning into caramelized taste.
11/6/22, 2:33 PM - Do you see this improving further with more age? I purchased some in 2019 and am trying to figure when to pop the cork on it. Willing to wait if it will peak down the road...
9/4/22, 6:52 AM - Absolutely spot on comment. An hour and a half open ir in decanter does this wine wonders. Pretty good night 2 as well kept under cork.
8/27/22, 6:56 AM - Agreed!
7/23/22, 6:41 PM - I understand that this is excellent now... but do you guys think it has peaked? Still pretty young... unfortunately I only have o e bottle so am hoping to enjoy when it is at its best! Sampled this right when it came out but hoping to get a better assessment from y'all.
6/2/22, 4:29 AM - Great note, I will find it easier to hold onto this and wait a few years after reading. Where are you located that a COVID-19 lockdown is impending?
5/11/22, 5:24 AM - Yes, but whereas better cork may have served your wine well, in baseball it definitely is a no no...
3/6/22, 6:52 PM - Excellent note. Do you think this has peaked? I have two bottles from a lot that heavily favored riserva juice and am trying to figure when to enjoy...
3/6/22, 6:46 PM - How long did you find this bottle took to open up after you popped the cork? Did you decant?I have sadly only a single bottle to look forward to but if it is in the sweet spot as you say I'll be enjoying it soon...
2/24/22, 9:53 AM - Do you know what lot this was from? For the 2006 vintage, lots that start with 2010 include 50% Riserva juice. Lots that start with 09 and are under 120 have 0% Riserva juice, lots above 09.120 include 30% Riserva juice. The first two numbers are the year, the second number is the calendar day. This is true for bottles and mags. At Produttori each bottling day is assigned a lot number, but there are in reality only three unique 'lots' in the sense most commonly used.
1/2/22, 6:48 PM - One of the most refreshing tasting notes and comments sections I have seen in some time. I certainly hope that the pendulum eventually swings back. Also would give a shout out to classically styled vintage Ports and sauternes, though they are obviously different animals.
1/2/22, 6:44 PM - This is a very, very interesting review to me. I purchased around 6 bottles (maybe closer to 10) of this cuveé a few years ago and drank them over 3 or 4 years. I found that they really came into their own more after about 3 years, but was not sure if that sentiment might be shared by others. This house has decidedly changed their style immense from the mid-2000's when it was released as white star and in my opinion had less personality and house style and more generic character.Have you had any of the most recent releases of this wine? Do you feel that hanging onto bottles for 10, 15 years would be worth my while from the most recent release? As someone who can appreciate a solid Champagne I have been very, very curious about the longevity of this wine particularly with more recent releases...
12/24/21, 6:58 AM - Thus sounds like it is in a great place. I have just one bottle of this and am trying to drink it at peak. I do enjoy secondary and tertiary flavors as wines age and have this at 55F in my cellar. You guys think this is ready for action or way too young to drink if I want it at peak?
11/21/21, 2:56 PM - You think there is any remaining upside to this? I got 2 bottles for 10 dollars apiece in 2011 and the first I had then was good but not ready. Wondering when to pull the trigger on the other...
10/13/21, 6:30 PM - Very interesting. I bought a few of these on release, all from the winery's first release. One bottle that I have had meticulously stored at 53-54F since purchase is the only one I have left. I last drank one 6 years ago. I am wondering if my remaining bottle was not a bottle that was previously premoxed if it would be rewarding at this point and if there is any reason to continue holding onto it for further evolution. Your note makes me want to open it soon...
8/4/21, 9:14 AM - How long do you think this will hold? Does it have the structure, acidity, fruit to improve? I see you mentioned it being a pleasure to drink now but I am hoping to have mine near peak as I only have a single bottle.
5/8/21, 6:43 AM - Indeed, the '05 is on fire right now, at peak and holding. I have a few of the 2010's and it does sound like holding them is in order.
7/21/20, 5:22 PM - If you recall, do you think this wine has reached peak? I have a single 750 I bought not too long after this wine went to market that's been stored at 55F since then and am wondering if it will still improve...
1/10/17, 6:15 PM - Winebid, bout a bottle in 2011 and one in 2013, around the same price...
1/18/15, 12:10 PM - How long do you think this will continue to evolve for in a positive fashion, from what you recall? Have one bottle... deciding when to pop the cork. I do enjoy a good mature Gewurz.
1/17/15, 5:16 PM - Do you think this will benefit from any further aging? Only have one bottle in my cellar...
1/17/15, 5:15 PM - Any thoughts on aging potential of this wine? I only have one bottle and am trying to decide which bin to put it in in my cellar...
1/17/15, 3:47 PM - Hey, I see that you have tried this wine recently. I have some in my cellar; I do enjoy a well-aged Bdx blanc and appreciated the oxidized character (like I love my 15+ year old Lopez Rioja Blancos' oxidation)... but it seems that between the three of you at this tasting only one had much to say on when to drink. Do you think this wine is in any danger of going over the hill or start fading soon? Or do you think it will gain any character or complexity in the coming few years? Trying to decide if I want to hold this or not... last bottle.
3/14/14, 4:00 PM - Hey there - just checked your note out... I have 2 more bottles of this wine myself. Just wanted to clarify your comment on not containing any of the Riserva juice. Your wine, with L 9.141 on the label, actually contained 30% Riserva wine. I have verified this through multiple sources. Just for your edification! :)"The situation with the 2006 Produttori Barbaresco is unusual. As is typical, the grapes from the 9 crus were vinified separately. The decision not to bottle these as separate riserva cru wines was made later than usual, after some lots of the regular Barbaresco were bottled and sold. In particular, the regular Barbaresco is usually bottled in 3 batches. Each batch is bottled over several days, so has multiple lot numbers. Usually all batches are from the same blend, but in 2006, there was no riserva cru juice in the first batch, 30% riserva cru juice in the second batch, and 50% riserva cru juice in the third batch. From all the reports, I belive these are the 3 batches made of 2006 Barbaresco: Batch 1 (no riserva juice): Lots 9.097, 9.099, 9.105, 9.113.Batch 2 (30% riserva juice): Lots 9.120, 9.125, 9.141.Batch 3 (50% riserva juice): Lots 10.144, 10.148, 10.155, 10.161. Lot number x.y means x is the year of bottling (e.g. 9=2009, 10=2010) and y is the day of bottling during that year. Thus, lot #9.097 means the wine was bottled on the 97th day of 2009, that is, March 7, 2009. The lot number can be found at the bottom of the back label."
2/7/14, 7:24 AM - I see you say drink or hold here... As I have only one bottle, I would like to ask - do do you feel this wine has hit its plateau? Do you think it has yet to hit its peak/plateau? If so, how far out do you think it is from peak? Or (unlikely I would think, given the hold recommendation) do you believe it has started to decline? I do like my wine mature, but not over the hill. I love your tasting notes, it seems we have similar palates... And appreciate any insight you can give here.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
