1/29/24, 4:15 AM - It was consumed with Chinese food (lightly seasoned), but was also tasted before and after as well.
1/22/24, 1:16 AM - I agree with you re. further time in the cellar. My 2005 Burgundy are mostly set aside for further cellaring, however this was the only bottle of pinot noir around and duck was being served for dinner, so this bottle was called into service. I hope your bottles of 2005 Bertagna turn out well in future.
11/30/23, 4:19 PM - Thanks for your note. While I have not tasted the 2021 yet, I tasted the 2017 a few years ago and my impression with that was similar to yours re. the 2021. I do wonder what will happen with the reduction levels, given Stelvin closure.
10/15/23, 3:37 AM - Thanks for the note, was wonderful on release...might pop one open in the next few months to take a look.
9/3/23, 2:55 AM - Welcome to C/T and thanks for the tasting note!
8/4/23, 2:28 AM - You sly dog...because of this review, I think I will be going out to buy more 2021 JJ Prum. Because of the wine or Vivien Leigh, not Mrs Palmer, let it be known.
7/18/23, 5:33 AM - The tasting note was written maybe a couple of hours after opening, no decanting. Having said that, there was still half a bottle left over the next day, and the wine had become lighter in weight, more harmonious - wonderful.
7/20/23, 5:35 AM - Absolutely will improve!
7/13/23, 4:32 AM - Strangely enough this drank pretty well straight away. But a few qualifiers - this bottle was bought from a store on the same day. A good quality store with cooling about as good as can be expected in a warmer climate country, but this bottle will still be more advanced than one that has been purchased on release and carefully cellared. Also, I am a Barolo fan and am fairly tolerant to tannins. Hope this helps.
6/13/23, 5:21 AM - This describes to a tee the 2008 NSG Vaucrains from Michelot that I drank a month ago. I wonder if it is a producer-related thing - the tart acidity and spiky tannins.
6/6/23, 6:53 AM - Thanks for the note. Was this one under screwcap or cork?
1/29/23, 1:39 AM - Nice tasting note Monsieur!
1/24/23, 1:17 AM - Appreciate the candid tasting note and opinions here.I do think that the Reds from this producer (at least at the Riserva level) can be slightly hit and miss, especially in the non-prime vintages (though I enjoyed the 05 Tondonia red). I am still figuring them out myself - the 2006s were a disaster imo. The whites and rosado on the other hand, a very consistently brilliant experience.
12/7/22, 2:43 AM - Thank you for reminding me, need to pick up a few more bottles of this one. Was astounded at how good it was, really blew my socks off.
12/6/22, 4:11 AM - Mister Odelmeyer, would you buy this wine again if you won Powerball?
11/11/22, 2:22 AM - Wine is 13.5% ABV, not 14.5%.
11/1/22, 2:52 PM - Welcome! More tasting notes please. =)
10/23/22, 5:21 AM - Should be happy that you don't care for the wine...saves money!
10/23/22, 5:17 AM - One fine day these wines will be recognised for what they are, prices will shoot up, and your friend will acknowledge his foolish ways!
10/12/22, 4:25 AM - Thank you for the wonderful note, lots of insights that are appreciated.I too wish for more good quality 12.5% ABV Australian reds, the oldies were/are a joy.
8/12/22, 4:09 AM - Gary Walsh from the Wine Front, an Australia-based wine critic, knowledgeable about Nebbiolo.
6/4/22, 3:18 AM - Thanks Lambar.
3/3/22, 2:23 AM - That meal sounds tasty.
10/9/21, 1:14 AM - Yeah I'm hoping it was "just" a flawed bottle. I love LdH, but this bottle of 06 Tondonia was a disappointment.
5/25/21, 4:38 PM - This wine will start developing toast and brioche tertiary characters in the next 5-10 years. Typically still austere and primary even at this age though, especially under screwcap. Agree that it won't stand up to substantial dishes, however the wine style is not designed for that - early picked with high acid, fermentation and ageing all in stainless steel, and in bottle in 6-9 months.
5/25/21, 4:30 PM - Am particularly interested in your comment about Cappellano's wines not ageing well. Is this based off some mid 2000s vintages? Many thanks.
3/31/21, 4:21 PM - Great note, thanks for this. Wonderful cellar, and wonderful wine.
10/11/20, 1:54 PM - I agree, however sometimes it is difficult to be a stickler for this, eg when out and about.
8/14/20, 4:47 PM - Sared - I'm no expert on "travel shock", however can believe it exists. This Pie Franco is quite delicate, so I can imagine it possibly be out of shape after a journey. Who knows?
8/14/20, 4:42 PM - From what I remember the Lamella is less full/blowsy, and has a bit more of a violet lift. Had the wines separately, with a lot more focus on the Lamella (the Standish was at a restaurant alongside other wines) so am recalling from impressions. I'd say if you are a keen Barossa drinker either will provide much enjoyment, if you drink more old world then Lamella is the one to go for. Hope this helps.
7/3/20, 2:09 PM - aagrawal - re. the bottle code, it is faintly printed on the back label (bottom left or right). The last two digits refer to the year the Chinato was made, and supposedly Cappellano uses 5 year old Barolo Rupestris to make the Chinato, so LK 116 = Barolo from 2011. Hope this helps.
7/3/20, 2:14 PM - sman - thanks for your response re. ageing Barolo Chinato. Will have to keep my hands off for a while and see what happens.
8/30/19, 4:21 AM - Fantastic review, thanks a lot.
8/14/19, 2:00 AM - Standard bottle.
3/5/19, 12:00 PM - Haha. You have this one do you?
7/23/18, 8:50 PM - I must have offended the wine gods somehow. Hopefully there is no more of this in future bottles...
5/13/18, 2:33 PM - "It’s like no other Pinot I have ever tasted. This is to Pinot, what the Grand Merlot is to Merlot."Is it because this is listed as a Shiraz?
5/1/18, 3:50 AM - You are tearing through these - have you got the keys to Bruce Tyrrell's stash? :)
4/26/18, 9:53 PM - Are you sure it's a 45hl cask? That's around 6000 bottles. Was under the impression that only ~2000 bottles were made each year, and around 10000 bottles of Barolo all up.
2/9/18, 3:07 PM - Hi, I snuck out a glass via Coravin. Had it in the glass for around 30 minutes. I really wonder whether my bottle was representative...
1/29/18, 7:22 PM - The nice thing about a wine such as this is that it's fairly inexpensive to pop bottles and see how it's tracking. I was unconvinced by my first bottle (wonder if it was sound?), but happy enough last night.
8/31/17, 3:55 AM - Intriguing. I think ignorance is bliss in this instance - I don't mind Brett (or rather, have not had it at such levels to find it annoying/distracting), however I am very alert to tca and cannot get past the mildest levels - hence can understand your perspective. I have just picked up some Allemand - will keep my eye out for the brett you mentioned.
8/27/17, 10:27 PM - Beautiful wines. Not sure what happened to the previous tasting notes - I had typed up 2 notes, over 2014 and 2016.
8/26/17, 4:26 PM - Ah yes - thanks for pointing it out. Have amended!
7/28/17, 4:15 AM - Thank you for the wonderful info re. 2012 vintage for Cantina Mascarello, very informative.
7/7/17, 8:51 PM - I normally wouldn't open a Barolo this early, however decided to open a 2012 Rupestris as I have a good number of them. I think the 2012 is more approachable than the 2011, it's more delicately structured compared to what one would normally expect from Serralunga. If funds permit, pop one open and buy a replacement bottle if you enjoy!
7/3/17, 3:17 AM - Wonderful wine. Those that generalised based on vintage missed out with the great producers.
6/12/17, 8:26 PM - To the point, I like it!
6/9/17, 2:41 AM - Entering drinking window? Thought this was going to be a classic, long cellaring vintage...this only got released 2 years ago.
5/23/17, 3:10 PM - All Mavrotragano seems to be expensive, and not easy to find at the best of times. Interesting point re. new oak - seems that the perception in "developing" wine nations is that top end wines need new oak. It has taken the west probably 15-20 years to realise that oak is not necessarily better, and it may take Greece that long as well...witness how even the better wineries like Gerovassiliou and Papaioannou have needed international varietals like Syrah and Chardonnay to penetrate internationally.
5/10/17, 2:20 PM - Good to see some positive comments here on Marcarini's 2012 Brunate - seemed like it received poor reviews from a few of the pros (Galloni, O'Keefe).
2/28/17, 2:12 AM - This is Denis
