In perfect shape this opened with a deep yet clear dark cherry colour and a nose of mulberry, dark cherries, blueberry, thyme and touches of tar and roses. The palate is deeply flavoured with plenty of dark cherry and mulberry balanced by autumn herbs and a firm line of fine tannins that persist nicely in the mouth. Excellent.

This is a spectacular Super Tuscan, but drinkers beware: right now it is a bit hot and tight without decant. Still, all the depth is there. Those of us who like the burn can start early, but swish liberally in mouth to get all the layers. Then go as slow as you can, because in 3 or 4 hours this baby really opens up into BIG. It is all there -- dark cherries, leather, dark chocolate, cedar, vanilla, other dark fruits, a hint of stone, and maybe even a touch of almond butter in there somewhere. Rich and bold are the watchwords, structured like a great Tuscan.

Thought this might have been flawed upon opening, even after 90 minute decant, so took to my local wineshop where awesome palates prevail. They said, perhaps imbalanced but nothing really wrong, so took home and double, triple, quadruple decanted for 3 more hours. Took to my blind tasting wine club, where it finished in the top 3 out of 12 super Tuscans!! Folks these have to be heavily decanted.......even at 11 year old, and will obviously prevail years from now! Enjoy!!
Jakob Westphal de Fries: spot on. But, after a tasting of good, but not top, St. Emilion (yes, I know the differences) , the inevitable question pops up: is it worth it? Say, 5 times the price of decent Bordeaux? I do not know.

Wauw. I really enjoyed this Tignanello, 2013. After some hours of breathing, I smelled dark cherries, leather, butter, chocolate and a bit of plum. These notes showed themselves in a rich and bold way when I drank the wine. Great length, and also very intense, but in balance and in a way that was pure pleasure. I want more!

Excellent. Did not decant; and I’m not sure it needs it. Wonderful, truffle, damp earth aromas! Yes, darker cherries and very good color also presented. Palate is more Sangiovese-like with really good acidity, and tannins that were a bit drying, but not excessive. Does need food and more on the steak/savory side. Enjoy the aromas and Tuscan Sangiovese palate. Qualiy stuff.

I don’t believe that this has improved since 2021 (unfortunately) and, if anything, is a little flatter and less imposing. A closed phase? Struggling to see this drinking well until 2035/6 as per pundits.

To my taste, an underwhelming, not very interesting wine. Tarry and tannic, with a brooding Cabernet profile without the Sangiovese lift. I waited a few years between this and the one I opened prior, hoping for some improvement. Nope. More tar than fruit; a disappointment. Reminded me of the aroma of mucilage glue.
Italian evening at Nick's (Chez Nick): Medium dark red. Quite stern relative to the other two wines, it needed significant air to get going and even then it does not ever match the appeal of the Castello di Ama or the Granato. I've never had this before, but I might prefer it younger when it was more on the fruit, it just felt a bit flat on the night compared to the other wines alongside it that were on song. It grew in the glass, got better as it went on.

Ferragosto feast! (Chez Nick): Although a nice wine, this was a mild disappointment relative to expectations. I'm not sure I'd say it was damaged or faulty, but it was certainly more evolved than I thought it would be. A bit gamey on the nose. Surprisingly soft on the palate, with punchy dark, slightly dried-out fruit and cocoa notes but a notably smooth texture. Whilst I've always regarded Tig as a commercial wine, I thought it would have more bite at 10 years old.

Nick’s Festa di Ferragosto; 8/16/2023-8/17/2023: Surprisingly evolved nose with leather, dark plum, terracotta, some oak and exotic spice. Rich palate with dried plums and cherries. Tannins resolved and a short-ish finish. Would drink up.

Niccolo's Ferragosto Feast (Chez Nick): I was surprised at the tertiary development here after only a decade: coffee, meat and tobacco notes alongside black fruit. I wanted to like it more than I did: I found it slightly brutish and unyielding for the time I had it in the glass, with a certain leanness on the palate. It may be telling that I enjoyed the last sip the most: floral notes were unfurling and there was an emerging layer of spice, albeit the palate was still quite mean. An enigma but I’d lean towards it needing more time, despite the level of maturity it’s already showing.

Decanted at noon, rebottled 6 hours later and decanted at the restaurant. Devoured during 3 hours of dinner.
This is the reason why Tignanello is such a lovely wine! When it delivers, it's fantastic. Beautifully polished and elegant with a lot going on. Perfect acidity as a restaurant wine, to make it through the whole menu. Complex enough to be talked about and meditated upon throughout the dinner.
A lovely showing!
Had a very difficult encounter two years ago. I prefer this version :-)

Decanted 60-90 minutes. Needed the time to open up. Precise nose of tart yet sweet cherry jelly. Liquorice and balsamic undertones. There’s a slight dusty tannic and dried herb finish. A bit acidic/sour but meant for food - confit duck wings and steak frites. This is a voice-cracking, awkward teenager with a learner’s permit. Needs time to build confidence and depth of character. 3-5 years and thus will be a star.

Fragrant nose of red berries, oak and spice. Great age on this. Subdued cherry, vintage leather, cigar box, oak and graphite. Opened up beautifully with the tertiary falvors shining through.
Med+ bodied, dry, soft and smooth. Incredibly well balanced and nothing like any other Italian wine I have enjoyed. Really great bottle.

Agree with Mike410. Spent $100+, bottle was perfectly aged, preserved at 52 degrees for eight plus years and decanted for 90 minutes. Quality wine, but no "wow" factor, no depth. Disappointing. Opened up a bit over the course of an Italian dinner. Reminds me of a comment I heard from a wine professional in Italy some years ago: that “the wine should not be the center of the meal but simply an accompaniment”. I think wine enthusiasts in the US would take issue with that viewpoint. I certainly do. Maybe I was expecting something closer to a Napa cab.

Half bottle pop and pour. Inky, opaque. Ripe berry and touches of chocolate and middle eastern spices on the nose. Rich and sweet. A bit peppery/spicy at the finish. Very attractive right out of the bottle. Quite polished. Already fairly soft. Nice acid hit at the end for freshness. Good length. Will definitely age, but already an excellent drink.

Black and red cherry, earth and spice notes on the nose. Between medium and full bodied with red cherry upfront, moving to black cherry through the middle. Very good initial mid-body depth that became more balanced and elegant over the course of the first hour open. The wine really shines in the mid-body with the depth and nuance giving the fruit expressiveness and definition. Backside shows a mix of both tannins and acidity along with tart black cherry, spices, earth and minerals. The 80% Sangiovese is quite dominant, with the cabernet providing backbone and finishing notes that were quite deftly integrated into the fruit. Overall, the wine showed exceptional balance, nuance and depth and clearly has room for additional positive evolution over the next few years. (ReFood Restaurant; Sorrento, Italy)

Mein erster tigna. 92+

Decanted for 2 hours. This is absoutely singing. Bouquet was full of red-fruit, cinnanamon, and nice Italian snap of spice. Palate did not disappoint at all, with red and black fruit, leather, earth, and hint of vanilla. Good density, without being heavy on the palate...mouthfeel is quite elegant. Paired very well with grilled korean beef ribs. I have drnk many Tignanello's over the years, and this bests them all. Beautiful wine.

Complex, vibrant with red fruit and terrific spice notes, this Super Tuscan has it all. Wonderful nose of clove and black truffle, secondary flavors of red currants, leather and a touch of vanilla. Drinking very well right now after an hour decant.

Slow ox for 4 hours then drank over 2 days. Consistency of notes both days. Just meh. No soul, very paint by numbers and lacking in any depth. Expected so much more from this
Part of a three vintage Tig dinner. Clean cork. Decanted into wide base vessel. This is an eager to please Tig. Probably the most "accessible" one I've had in recent memory - first time trying the 2013. Pronounced nose of sweet dark red fruits, truffle and espresso. Vibrant on the palate. A joy for most around the table. Eyes closed I would have guessed a WA or CA better quality meritage blend. Served with turkey milanese and fettucine alfredo.

From half bottle. Outstanding super Tuscan showing very well right now. Beautiful nose for earth, leather, and a touch of floral. After a short time in the decanter and glass, bright cherry fruit emerged in just the right amount. Could of gone longer in the bottle, but very enjoyable right now from the small format. I would hold larger bottles for 3-5 more years.
By the glass from Coravin at Mercato Centrale in Florence. Nose of red fruit, cigar box, mushrooms. On the palate, silky, full bodiedz ripe fruit, mature fruit, dried herbs. Medium finish with integrated tannin, vanilla notes. Drinking great right now.
Old world feel, tannic, gorgeous color, long finish. Probably not quite ready to drink but its a stunner even now with upside to go. This one was a WS top 10 in 2016 and shows like that.

Dark red, 1h 15min aeriaction, nose was a mix of slightly underripe dark berries. Some very slight sweetness but firmly kept in check. Fresh powerfull taste, underripe dark berries, black currant, blackberries and acidic bite. These have long lives in front of them.

Inky purple. Needs at least 30 minutes in the glass to open up. Meaty, earthy, mostly black berries. Medium+ weight. Ripe fruit. Aside from the black fruits, there's some strawberry and cherry as well. The meaty and earthy qualities are reinforced on the palate. Throwing quite a bit of sediment. Tannins are no longer aggressive. Soft enough it you have it with some food. A touch of dried herb and black olive at the fairly long finish. At least from a half bottle, pretty approachable already. A perfect match for minestrone and meatballs with tomato risotto.

Great wine from legendary producer, Suprisingly as much as 80% of Sangiovese and only 15 % Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine opens beaufifully with great aroma and finish, Surly should be kept longer, Parker 96.

Double-decanted to remove the sediment and that worked, but better to decant for 1h+. Fresh red berry and black cherry, dried tomato, dried herbs and black tea. The fruit was very ripe initially, but became more fresh and refined with time in the glass. Palate was round with a soft texture. The 2013 has been slowly but surely consolidating over the last 3 years with the palate forming a more coherent structure.

Deep ruby. 1st bottle of a case. Slightly perfumed, dark fruits nose. 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc. Still quite closed, tight after 2/3 hours decanting. Well balanced, black cherries, figs, earth palate. No doubt this needs more time and will improve. Revisit in 1-2 years.

I avoid rating this btl because it's simply too young to assess for my skill set.
Plopped it in the early afternoon at the office, spreading beautiful aromas. At the restaurant, it was harsh and simply stonewalled us. No pleassure in this btl, other than it was delicious. Just like lager is delicious after training or cold milk with cinnamon rolls.
Expected more, hoping to reap with the next bottle.
Had I scored my honest opinion tonight, it'd be like 84p.
A classic wine with a massive reputation. This is dark cherry, licorice, smoke, spice, and a little tobacco on a very concentrated nose. Tannins are gentle, acid med +, with that concentration maintained on entry, mid palate and finish. Just a quality wine. Too many of the super tuscans that followed after tignanello opened the door are so extracted and forced. This just stays in its lane with confidence and the right amount of restraint.

4 pairs of top notch wines; 9/26/2021-9/27/2021 (Tøyen, Oslo): Double decanted. So young and crisp still. The nose: Blackberries, fresh plums, blueberries. Palate: Firm mouthfeel, dark profile. Still quite a lot of wood influence, blackberries also. Long finish. I was quite surprised with the fruit profile here, especially the first hour, it was completely dominated by the 20% Cabernet. I was wondering what happened to the Sangiovese.. Later, the sharp acidity and freshness I associate with Sangiovese kept growing, balancing out the Cabernet. Impressive wine in all aspects. 94 now, probably higher in 5-7 years.

In a much better place than my last bottle from a few years ago. Still very young, but in its drinking window now.
Quite dark in color in the glass. Very pleasant nose, dark spice, cumin and oregano, floral. Bits of cocoa powder, some roasted gamey meat. Similar notes on the palate which is medium + in body. A good bit of structure on this, some chewy and gritty tannins. Nice ripe core of black berries, black cherry, tart juicy blueberry. Excellent.

One of those smug restaurant finds where they haven't updated their price list since they bought the stock. Nose of cassis, spiced plum, black olive, rosemary, cigar box. Smooth attack of rich black cherry, red cherry, plum, and a hint of cranberry. Very grippy tannins. Long glowing finish of spices, jam, tobacco leaf - the just slightly greenish tannins giving a hint of bell pepper. Lovely Tig now, will improve.

Drank this wine alongside a 2006 Andrew Will Sorella and the Sorella was more of a favorite, but only because of the age-induced softness. The Tignanello is very early for drinking but still excellent. Bright acidity carries flavors of tart cherry and black cherry. A little deeper there is some black/blue fruit I had a hard time identifying. There are flavors of tobacco and black tea. The finish is long, persistent and altogether lovely. The winewill bring pleasure for 15 years easily and that’s probably the best thing as it will continue to deepen and evolve. I believe it will become something special.

Decanted two hours. This is showing very well, bold and savory with edgy but accessible tannins. On the palate, notes of olive tapenade, wet earth, leather, herbs, anise. Very full body. This is richer and more intense than older vintages of Tignanello I have tried and is quite a stunner. Many years of life ahead.

The nose is already complex: black fruits, a touch of wood, liquorice and violet. The palate is very silky with a very elegant touch. The material is supple on a high quality juice on the palate. Surprising how well it drinks with a complex construction where the fruity juice on the cherry and the blackcurrant gives way to more evolved aromas such as herbs and coffee. Nice finish on spices with delicate and well polished tannins which open the way to a nice length.
Excellent

The 2013 version of this wine is complete and outstanding. I must say I go a little hot and cold on this wine, depending on the vintage. I recently had the 2001. It was a nice wine, but not a great wine. I have had the 2010 and found it darn good, but not really in the same league as this 2013. This wine has marvelous balance with good, clean acidity on the entry that livens up the fruit and the richness of the blend. It finishes very long with the tannins well integrated and adding some nice complexity, especially when paired with great food.

Color was garnet with some thinning ruby on the edges. Big cherry, some stewed plum, and tobacco on the nose. Medium body. Medium to high acidity. Unexpected menthol along with stewed black fruit, leather and berry. Not as concentrated as I'd expect and more sour than I'd expect too. Perhaps still young?

Opened to breathe for 3h. I've enjoyed several bottles of Tignanello over the years but this was a low point for me. Lots of evergreen, oak, tannins, and muted red fruit. Not bad just not great, which is what you expect at this price point! Probably opened it too early (or didn't let it breathe long enough) but I wonder how much better this bottle could really have been in 2-3 years time. Makes me want to test drive some '13 Flaccianello. Tonight, paired with pork stew. 90/91

I’ve had this wine several times over the years and usually it’s gorgeous after being open a few hours, but this bottle was more along its way. Notes of sun dried tomatoes, some red fruit, integrated tannins, a bit weak in the finish. Past tastings I would rate in the 93-94 range but this bottle I would rate 89-90. Could be bottle variation.

Give this an hour in the decanter to open up. Once it does, it shows a lovely nose of fragrant cedar and cherry, with some floral notes. Nicely balanced palate, with cherry and graphite. A touch acidic right now, but this should soften with more time. Long finish. This will be a 97 point wine down the road, but I’m going to have a hard time keeping my hands off these bottles to let them get there.

No decant and none absolutely needed but probably still best to pour into the decanter. Ripe red cherry, some strawberry. A bit heavy on the oak. Dried tomato and floral notes as well. Fresh and fruity palate, but simple in structure. This makes for immediate pleasure to drink and is in a good spot. A good Tignanello and probably even really good if they had used a softer touch with the oak.

Decanted for about an hour. Clearly starting to put on some age in the colour with an overall medium dark dusty plum with fuchsia highlights. The nose was initially a bit dilute smelling, yet with a bit of funk at the same time. When swirled the fruit come forth in a wave of blueberry, blackberry, cassis, tar, espresso, charcoal, stone and high toned herbs (think herbal tea). Tart black and blue berries, cassis, cedar and black tea on the palate. Mid weight, round mouthfeel, very fine yet grippy tannins, juicy acidity and a long off dry finish that is a mixture of concentrated, tart fruit and lingering tannins and just a whiff of charred oak. This really grips your tongue making me think that it is quite a few years away from being at its peak. You can tell this is the unruly youth stage of a wine that will grow up to be first class.

From a half-bottle. Inky and impenetrable when poured, Left it in the glass for about an hour to air.
Very nice after an hour in the glass. Exotic spice box aromas - anise, cardamom, nutmeg, clove, roasted meat, blackberry, currants. On the palate, roasted meat, currants, and blackberry again, but no spice. Quite a bit of acidity. Not dense but flavors aren't too generous. Dry, savoury. Long finish. Tannic Needs time to open up. Decant for maybe 3 to 4 hours if you must drink now, or better leave alone for the next 5 years or so.

Dark ruby rims with a deep purple/black core. Loads of dark black fruits on the nose and palate. Extremely well balanced even with a pop and pour. Some nice acidity and perhaps slightly fruitier and riper than classic bordeaux. Nice with some air if you like young and fresh flavours, but could easily keep and develop secondary notes with time.

If I were in the Italian countryside or even eating a good pasta I can see a romantically higher score but at home and drinking it straight I think this needs another decade for the leatheriness to get deeper and the soureness on the front left palate to dissipate. From memory this gets crazy high scores from 'judges' are they judging it relative to this grape or for outright pleasure and quality?
Clear deep ruby; clean pronounced nose of cassis, jammy blueberries, toast, vanilla, cloves and cocoa; dry; medium plus acidity; high tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; pfn with noticeable cocoa; long finish; outstanding quality; drink now or in another 10 years; beautiful wine

Did only a brief decant but I would recommend to go for 2-4h. Ripe red cherry fruit, dried tomato, dried herbs (lavender maybe). Still somewhat disjointed on the palate with lots of acidity and tannins that have a lot of grip. Will take a while for all pieces to fall in place in my view. Not much more convincing than my last encounter. Best to shove the remaining bottles to the back of the cellar and revisit in the 2020ies.

A delicious bottle of wine , this starts with a deep but clear dark cherry colour and a nose of mulberry, dark cherries, blueberry, thyme and touches of tar and roses. The palate is deeply flavoured with plenty of dark cherry and mulberry balanced by autumn herbs and a firm line of fine tannins that persist nicely in the mouth. There is plenty of future n this wine but equally it has lots of zest and interest right now.

Red cherry, bit earthy, spices. Ready to drink wine with little aeration in the glass. Among the very 1st Super Tuscans it delivers very well. Had more elegance over Macan.
Wonderful nose on opening - reminiscent of great Cali cabs like Insignia. Took to our favorite Italian restaurant and enjoyed immensely as it opened over the next 2 hours. Drinking very nicely now but certainly can age longer.
We had this blind and thought it was a varietal Cabernet from Coonawarra or Bordeaux. Decanted and drank in 30 minutes ... will this get better? Possibly ... but the fine tannins hold the wine up nicely ..and if they dissipate over the next 3-5 years you might disappointed.

Tasted blind. 1h decant followed by 2h slow-ox. Pleasing, Bordeaux-type of nose despite the 80% Sangiovese. Mixed berries dark and red, tobacco, leather, floral notes (violets maybe) and a bit earthy. Elegant both in the nose and on the palate where the 1h decant clearly helped to produce a round texture. Clearly a crowd pleaser and the gang around the table liked it a lot. Having said that, I was left pretty disappointed. No evolution in the glass to speak of. Being inoffensive on all counts made the drinking very easy, but in my view also meant a lack of character. These are harsh words but given the high score by WA (best ever along with 2015 and potentially 2016) I would have hoped for a more exciting and profound experience.
Decanted 2 hours. Pretty young at the moment (as expected). First too much acidity was better with more time and later at dinner. I would recommend to wait 3-5 more years. 91+ pts at the moment.

Unlike its bigger brother the 2013 Tignanello shows incredibly mature nose and color. There is a definite bricking to the rim as well as hints of gouache, lead pencil, black currant jam and plum. Quite soft on the palate the wine still has high acidity and plush yet somewhat austere tannins. Needs more years in the bottle before it becomes silky and enjoyable but I am afraid fruits will be gone by this time with the wine turning completely tertiary.

Antinori Dinner with Allegra Antinori (Margot, Loandon): Albeit not the juicy and ripe vintage of the 2007 we had side by side this was special, spirited and energetic and in this was as good as the more celebrated 2007 (Papies 92). Herbaceous, spicy, well integrated and with nice balance. Leafy in way. Nice minerality too. Good 92 and just about entering its drinking window. 92

I try not to read the tasting notes before posting, but it has been a while since I posted. I was tasting this for my wife. It was a deep dark purple and was fruit forward. I got plums and meaty spices on the nose. It was a bit viscous but not sticky. It was acidic but not offensive. Smooth is what my wife called it. She mentioned cherries and candy (honey of butterscotch?). It was nice but not overly complex.

Tight but revealing what this can be. Aromas of black currant and a touch of fig with nuances of spice and leather. Everything where it should be. This is one to sit on bit should be spectacular in five years.

Given the advice of previous comments I double decanted this wine four hours before dinner and found the Tignanello very approachable. A lovely velvet texture on the palette with great fruit and balance.

Nose is already open, offering a complex perfume of cherries, blackcurrants, tobacco, violets, dusty soil, spices and minerals. Fresh palate aromatically still a bit closed, but all elements already well integrated. Not oaky, thick or alcoholic, this shows a real sense of place. Should be quite nice with some more years of bottle age.

Still at young Vintage this 2013 Tignaello is already showing strong flavors. On the nose Black Currant, tobacco, ripe Cherries and after some time a strong smell of vanilla which already hints the taste that will follow. On the palate Black currants, cherries, violets, vanilla and dark chocolate. The color is ruby, with slow legs and a long finish. It's a pity to drink it this young as there is a great potential of flavors development. Start drinking 2020 throughout 2030. Paired the wine with some jamon pata negra, truffles brie cheese and home made pasta.

2017 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/16/2017-10/25/2017 (New York City, NY): The 2013 iteration of Antinori's Tignanello is a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby in color, it delivers aromas and flavors of black cherries, tobacco, baking spices, graphite and bay leaf. Full-bodied, freshly acidic and with substantial fine-grained tannins, it weaves in a complementary note of oak and shows no alcoholic heat. Dense in the middle and lengthy on the back end, this is a quality offering that will require some patience. Drink 2023-2040.

Two consistent bottles at restaurant. Pnp and immediately very open and accessible. I suspect a decant at this point in time might bring out more tannins. Medium body with dark fruit, plenty of herbs, some oak needing a bit more time to integrate but very pleasant to drink already. Smooth, fine to medium tannins. Another very solid Tignanello, the consistency year on year is remarkable, having said that, am scratching my head somewhat as to where Monica Larner sees the 96 points in this particular vintage. Would give the wine another 12 months to fully absorb the remaining oak, and then drink over the following 5 years, am not a fan of aging Tignanello much beyond the 10 year mark. 91-92

Bought on Celebrity Equinox at the Tuscan Grill. Shiny ruby. Generous nose of florals and red fruit and some herbs. Palate was silk smooth tannins, so young yet so polished it amazed me again after years having had the last Tignanello from 2007. Decent length and so delicious.

Oh so young. Undrinkably closed until decanted for 2 - 3 hours. But then, cinnamon, leather, flowers. Lovely. Lots of tannin. Lots of acid. Try again in 2030.

The nose is a nice mixture of red and black fruit with a help from a well managed wood treatment, the palate follows the nose and the balance throughout is great - star to finish, what a wine this will surely go 95+ category with age.

Very dark red with purple hues, very high optical density, and medium reflectivity. Nice nose, with a lot of intensity, although it takes some vigorous swirling to open. Aromas include very dark black and red fruits (blackberry, plum, and mixed dark red berries), brambly forest floor, and aromatic spices. Fresh acidity on the palate, with a juicy feel that is full bodied with good density, and firm coarse-grained tannins that provide as much charm as grip. Flavours are intense and concentrated, with dark berries dipped in light vanilla bean that is reinforced by some coffee on the attack. Dark fruits fill in even more over the rich midpalate, with some soil and spice adding in with some juniper that weaves around things. The final transition shows a savory kick, with some smoked meats showing up before a long finish of leather and tobacco.
Really nice intensity, and decent complexity, but very young. Showing lots of promise, with good density that remains easy to drink. Oak usage is deft, leaving a certainly modern style with a nod to old world sensibilities. A very nice wine to have with robust foods- but this is best held for a few years at least, and should develop very nicely. 91 for now, with potential for several more points.

Fitted well with the pasta. Yes, it's young, but I personally prefer it this way. This is already very drinkable. I like the fruit and the presence of tannins with the italien food. For me no reason to wait. Give it some air or decant.

Air for three hours and I got the feeling that it wasn't enough.. Quite resolved on the nose, but fine and elegant. Fruity and acacia, pines and coltsfoot aromas. Upfront vibrant palate wise. Feminine with undertow of sweet spices. Good grip of tannins on back palate.

Don't get the pro ratings on this one. Nice aromatics upon opening. Decanted for an hour and consumed over the next two, however little noticeable change. We tried this a few months ago and were determined to try this again to try to get it right. At this point, I struggle to find the confidence that this wine will reach its expected potential of 93-94+. At 3/5 the price, a 2014 Trapiche single vineyard malbec made the Tig feel rubbery and muted tonight. I have one more bottle however and will set it aside for the next 7 years or so in hopes... Will not buy any more though at this price point and would rather look for earlier vintages that always have impressed more than this vintage.

I think it's too early. Wine is a pretty medium purple. Nose has an oaky sweetness and good complexity at first whiff. Some pleasant funk shows itself in the nose later. Nice acidity. Big and luscious. Blackberry, black plum. Leather jacket and herbal tea, the latter of which is the least pleasing part of this for me. Plus finish. Fruit forward; soft, then chewy, then she bites. Have one more bottle and going to forget it about for as long as I can.

Excellent youthful wine. High quality tannins, perfectly balanced with a long finish. I was curious to see how long I should wait before I open my magnum and my double-magnum. Should be at its best around 2028-2032.

Yum! Brooding dark fruit on the nose and the front palate; dark cherry, blackberry, a little raisin and cassis with some black pepper spiciness. Very balanced and not too acidic in the middle with plenty of minerality and earth. Powerful but balanced on the finish with some good tannins. This one should last a while if you can be patient but is delicious right now.

Clear, ruby red, pinky-white rim, sporadic, fast-moving tears Clean, med+ intensity, aromas of roasted blueberries, blackcurrants, freshly lit candles, whisper of oak, red liquorice, hawthorne Dry, med+ body, med+ tannins, light acidity, med alcohol, further tastes of dark cherries, sarsaparilla, stewed plums, roast beef juice, pu'er leaves, touch of black olives. Very long finish, but I have tasted better Tignanellos. Still young and would suggest another few years before a good tasting window opens.

Dark ruby color. Pomegranate, cranberry, prune, cherry, thyme, wild strawberry, cigar, black pepper and leather. Quite acidic and astringent than I expected. Soft textured, well concentrated wine. Very interested to observe that the feature of wine changes from Chianti Riserva, BDM to Bordeaux, Northern Rhone. Definitely, the wine is too young but I can say it is well made in an aspect of structure, balance. Clear and fresh. Alc. 13.5%

Ordered off the list at Michael Anthony's in Hilton Head. Fairly reasonable mark-up on the wine and the order was accompanied with a great stem upgrade. This was a baby. We opened and decanted and shared two bottles across eight people which meant the wine went on the faster side and didn't have a chance to really open in the glass. I appreciated the more muted flavors, clearly well-structured to pair with Italian foods (I particularly liked it with the bolognese and polpette). Would have preferred another 10 years of age though.

The 2013, listed in the top 10 wines of 2016 by Wine Spectator, shows deep ruby red with violet hues and is still very tight on the nose. Tones of red and black fruit (sour cherry, raspberry), violets, sweet spices, wet soil and leather. The palate is dry with a huge structure, sexy raw fruit and an unforgettable finish. It’s a true shame to open this bottle now and live the illusion that you got everything out of it. Drink from 2018 through the next 20 years.

Slightly translucent dark cherry color with a darker blackcurrant hue. Brooding and quite spicy nose with aromas of tart red berries, sour cherries, some licorice and surprisingly little of oak character. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate with moderately high acidity, but surprisingly mellow tannins that only give a bit of firmness to the wine. Quite intense yet balanced flavors of blackcurrant-driven dark berries, sour cherries, some dired herbs, a little bit of peppery spice bitterness, a hint of spicy oak and a touch of blackberry marmalade. The long finish feels more tannic and grippy with more emphasis on the peppery spice and bitterness and lighter notes of sour cherries and ripe dark berries.
Although the wine feels quite ripe, the ripeness isn't here the main thing, but instead brightness, focus and freshness. Compared to some previous Tignanellos I've had, this is a surprisingly fresh and sophisticated effort that is not about extracted ripe fruit and overdone oak. Overall the wine feels less like a traditional Super-Tuscan and more like a well-made modern Chianti Classico with a little bit of Super-Tuscan twist. Overall the wine is still a baby and I wouldn't think of opening one until it is at least 10 years old. I must say I was a bit surprised by the lack of tannic grip; even though I like this more delicate style of Tignanello more, I've always loved that good tannic bite the Tignanellos have - except for this. I'm not so sure whether this wine will be so ageworthy as the more tannic Tignanellos due to its lighter tannins. Whatever the case may be, this is still a nice example of modern Tuscan red.

Pure and focused nose of dark currant fruit with complexities of nutty oak, violets, and polished fine leather goods. Medium-full bodied and artfully balanced palate; good flavor replays and length. Approachable now with the right pairings and should age gracefully for 10+ years.

I really enjoyed the 2012 (94pts) and based on CT reviews hoped the 2013 was even better - but it isn't. The 2013 has more of a herbacious (hibiscus) vibe, compared to the 2012 which I found more modern and fruit forwardly and sensual in the palate.
Wow what a Tig. Concentrated and powerful yet silky and elegant with structure balance and length. So silky this is as it glides effortlessly. Very easy to drink amazingly at such a youthful age. Incredible. One of the best Tignanello i have tasted to date. Drink 2020-2033.

Drank this at Milos in NYC for $250 a bottle. Holy mark up. This was way too tight and closed. Hard to get anything out of it as we were drinking 2005 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan and 2005 Far Niente Cabs in the room before dinner. So perhaps our palate was slightly flawed. Maybe a long decant would help but I see this as needing time. Good potential.

Consumed at a restaurant in Tuscany. Full decant but not much of a rest as the food arrived in 30 minutes. This bottle drank like a more mature wine, a little funkiness woven in with the fruit; plum, raisins and olive front end. The palate was lush and full, the finish long and dry. Maybe it was Tuscany, maybe it was just a really good bottle, but I went out and picked up a case.

2013, Tignanello, Marchesi Antinori, Toscana IGT: medium roasted meat and spicy wood on the nose, very ripe luscious purple fruit on the nose. medium fine grain tannin but a little weak(dusty), medium acidity, dry, medium body, m+ alcohol a hint of heat in the throat. On the palate, m- red fruit with a hint of vanilla. Very long pure dark bitter chocolate with a hint of savory. Good balance, great length, okay intensity, good complexity. Out standing. after one hour breathing, it gives out more cheesy nose and the red fruit get more profound. So it turns into exceptional. 91. At the peak, drink soon. Lost the complexity and meatiness on day2 and got a little balsamic on day3 as a defection.

I did try a bottle on the weekend, but did not take a formal tasting note. I found it much better than the 2012 tasted recently as well, but the 2013 likely benefitted from a 3-4 hour decant. If anything there is a bit less of the black and blue fruit (I commonly get blueberries on young Tigs) and more black and purple fruit. It is deftly balanced and very smooth even at this early stage. The last handful of vintages have all scored in the 93 to 95 point range and IMO this is right up there near the top.

working with wine 2016 seminar 1 - tuscany (Hilton Hotel, Sydney): Medium plus intensity concentrated, polished oak - vanilla and slight caramel, then ripe red and black cherry and black currant and berry. Very fruit forward and underpinned by spicy and floral notes. In the mouth the wine is all about juicy cherry underpinned by black currant, very zesty without being tart. tannins are concentrated on the front of eh palate and alcohol warmth encroaches on the long finish. Less breadth on the palate than I would like. Still a puppy.

Enjoy!!

Excellent.

Not bad just not great, which is what you expect at this price point! Probably opened it too early (or didn't let it breathe long enough) but I wonder how much better this bottle could really have been in 2-3 years time. Give this an hour in the decanter to open up. Once it does, it shows a lovely nose of fragrant cedar and cherry, with some floral notes. Nicely balanced palate, with cherry and graphite.

Tignanello 2013
Flott dyp rød farge.
Utrolig sammensatt lukt.
