Beautiful notes of citrus, floral, dry stone and faint salinity. PNP the acidity was ever so slightly pronounced but after an hour blended seamlessly. The palate offered up tropical fruit, mild candied lemon, maybe even a hint of vanilla. Long and effortless on the finish. Impeccable balance. Amazing wine.

A blend of Sauvignon Blanc (85%) and Sémillon (15%). Fermented and aged for 18 months in oak barriques (35% new). Bottled in June 2007. 13% alcohol.
Pale lemon-yellow color. The nose feels complex, quite evolved and even very slightly oxidative with aromas of roasted nuts and caramel, some creamy oak tones, a little bit of ripe citrus fruits, light beeswax tones, a hint of burnt sugar and a touch of bruised apple. The wine feels evolved, complex and subtly oxidative on the palate with a medium body and intense flavors of walnuts and woody notes of savory oak spice, a little bit of bruised apple, light pithy grapefruit bitterness, a hint of ripe lemony citrus fruits and a touch of woolly lanolin. The acidity keeps the wine nicely in balance, lending good sense of freshness and some sense of structure to the wine. The finish is long, evolved and slightly oxidative with a nuanced aftertaste of chopped walnuts, some bruised apple, light woody notes of savory oak spice, a little bit of ripe citrus fruits, a hint of browned butter and a touch of stony minerality.
A sophisticated, balanced and quite evolved Bordeaux Blanc at its peak. The wine is not past its peak yet, but the oxidative tones are starting to be present and it feels obvious that the wine is not going to benefit from any further aging. The overall feel was somewhat more aged and tertiary compared to the 2004 vintage I had tasted before and noticeably older compared to the 2008 and 2010 vintages. We tasted this wine next to the 2009 Haut-Bergey Blanc and while the overall style here was less oaky and more classically styled, this wine didn't manage to reach the freshness and intensity of that 2009 Haut-Bergey. All in all, this was a fine and balanced Chevalier, but it hasn't reached the level of the best Chevalier Blancs I've tasted, and - unless we had a prematurely evolved bottle - probably never will.

Stands the test of time very well. Vital and at peak, but could keep another 5 years without problem. Very slight oxidation with fresh fruit and acidity to balance. Served too cold to really form an opinion this time.

Pale gold, clearly with some age. Lovely sweet and floral fragrance, lightly honeyed . Fleshy, rounded, excellent depth of flavour and plenty of fruit to balance the acidity. Certainly a lot more lemon citrus and curd from the semillon with a relatively light dusting of herbal spice. Nothing oxidative or coarse, a very smooth stylish wine.

Light gold color. Marmalade, beeswax, vanilla, and white fruit bouquet. Given that it’s 17+ years old, it’s amazingly youthful. Rich pear flavor with the perfect balance of acidity And fruit. Long, zesty clean finish. Will easily hold 5-7 more years, though enjoyable now. An impressive white Bordeaux.

Beautiful, vibrant golden color, with a bit of hay. Stunning minerality on the nose, with notes of apricot, honey and dried fruit. Mouth - rich, dense texture and superb length. Buttery, complex and simply delicious.
This wine is so youthful and fresh, with no signs of aging. An absolute stunner, could easily go for 10-15 more years. Drink now or hold. Paired superbly with salmon tartar. Served at around 15 degrees Celsius, perfect temperature to appreciate a white of this caliber.

90 min in the glass before first sip- last tasted approximately 5 years ago. This kept getting better the more air it got so I would suggest a 90 min decant at this point. This is a complete wine with a very long finish. So much energy in this wine. This is in its prime but no rush to drink this. At least a decade left. I would have guessed a 5 year old wine. This is worth seeking out. This should pair well with just about everything.

I like how this is developing. Now you find a blanc with honeyed overtones, flowers, crushed stone, and fresh citrus. Lushly textured with a tint of honey on top of all that sweet yellow citrus in the finish, this has entered its sweet spot.

Still remarkably youthful. Bright medium straw colour with a gentle nose. Full rather unyielding palate. Drank half the bottle on the first night and then corked up the remainder in the fridge and finished it the following evening, when the palate had started to open up, though it was still a bit restrained. No trace of fade in this bottle, which mirrors one tried a couple of years ago. A slow developer.

This time the cork was in good shape. Wine is lovely, still has some brightness behind the nuttiness, but definitely is on the downward trend. So far my experiment is leading me to drink my dry Bordeaux blanc earlier in its life rather than later.

No score, was more oxidized than I expected so did not have the vibrancy nor flavor profile I expect from this estate. There was black (mold?) on the exterior of the cork, which otherwise was in good shape. Heat damage? Certainly it was not what I hoped it would be.

Académie des Cinquante 64th Annual Dinner (Sofitel The Grand, Amsterdam, NL): Bottle variation, out of 5 bottles 1 was maderised, 1 was tired and three were more or less fine. The tired one had lost its fruit, was drying and oaky. Not rated. The correct bottle has aromas of nuts and apricot, hint of marzipan, citrus on the palate, quite tight and lean, good oak integration, but developed a hint of wet straw on the finish in the glass.

Light gold colour, nose of honeysuckle, pineapple and citrus. Then you taste it and this is outstanding. It's full yet zingy, rich and luscious, oaky and more citrus the finish is incredible, but not as intense as my previous bottle from a few years ago. 92

Really lovely stuff, drinking very well now. The nose was lovely and expressive, with drifts of white flowers, cream, sweet winter melon, bits of nectar and some chalky mineral, all seasoned with a bit of spice. Lovely. The palate was beautiful too, a lovely melange of lime zest citrus notes, fleshy green apples and a lift of chalk and beeswax, all lined with bright acidity and a sinewy mineral spine. Beautifully integrated and juicing delicious, this was on point and really nice indeed.

Bordeaux 1996 (semi blind) with a friend (Amsterdam): Well crafted and well-delineated in nose and on the palate. Apricot, honeysuckle, herbs and minerals. On the palate rich and sweet but also citrus fruits and high acidity. Probably the right components for a long life. 94 for now but will get better.

Solid but needs to be decanted for at least 2 hours. This was shut down and not enjoyable until hour 3. However, when it finally opened it was outstanding, smooth and had an above average finish. Nearing its prime but will hold for 20 years.

From a Coravin pour. Lovely expressive clean nose of tropical fruit, citrus, hazelnuts and wax. The palate is dry to very dry with a touch of leather with a nutty character. Citrusy fresh with some notes of caramel and butterscotch (!?). Long interesting finish that could reveal a very, very slight oxidation but not enough to say its flawed. Rather just adds complexity! Tried the same bottle a week later and found it more rounded and fruity. Drink now and the next 5 years would be my guess. 93-94p

After last Saturday's showing, I thought I should come back to this quickly. This time I decanted the wine for 90 minutes. Certainly, the nose improved to show some elements of fruit, primarily apple, though the oxidation remained. The oxidized nose reminded me of a fino sherry, but with fruit versus nutty notes. I'm a fan of fino, so this characteristic did not offend me. I just don't expect it in this wine. The wine was medium bodied and the flavors trended toward apple and mineral notes. The acidity was extremely bright which was the high point for me of this bottle. This bottle was healthy, but certainly mature. While the prior bottles have been either flawed, nearly flawed, or just disappointing, this one showed the best, even if it remained a little dull and lacked dimension. If this gets better with more bottle age, then that progression will be a first for me. Still hoping to be wowed by one of my remaining bottles.
Third bottle. Bordered on spoiled, which was the case with the second bottle, so I'm concerned about the remaining stock. Oxidation dominated. I'm going to work through additional bottles soon to see if I have a bad batch or if I'll experience the quality noted in the pro reviews. Might try decanting to see if the nose freshens with air and time.

Light gold in color, light to medium bodied, and medium+ acid. Somewhat muted on the nose. Hints of lemon, wax, herbs, and wet stones. Crisp, long, mouthwatering finish. Not as expressive as other bottles I have tasted in the past. Perhaps a bit shut-down right now or maybe even declining. Time will tell.

Slightly dull medium gold. Nose shows ripe stone fruit, a touch oxidative and lacks freshness/vitality. Medium bodied, slightly fresher on the palate with stone fruit and spice but lacks complexity and length and not what it should be. Oxidised (note:bought from auction).

This sublime wine continues improving with age. The nose, with its mineralistic, fresh, crisp citrus and honeysuckle notes pairs perfectly with the full, rich, lush, sweet, ripe, crisp, fresh, lemon and pomello fruits on the palate. This is good now, but it’s going to get better and better with more age.

A very odd bottle. Good colour, but distinct odours of plasticine and other industrial chemicals on the nose, not repellent but equally not right. Julia thought mildly decaying apples. Palate has the correct texture, but an arresting acidity which overwhelms other flavours. Julia detected acetone. Other bottles from the same case have been lovely. Not rated.
Needs a good 90 min decant- medium plus body, good balance and finish. Seems somewhat young. Hard to say if this is in its prime. This should improve and hold for another 10 plus years. Good value.

Does not show it's age at all, bright yellow with gold reflects, really nice nose of lemon, orange zest and touch of grapefruit. There's really nice herbal component with mint and fennel seed to complete the profile. Still a baby, acid backbone is amazing and blind would have not tough that great wine has 10 years. Should continue to blossom over the next 5 years and live for a long time.

Super nice wine. The sweet, honeysuckle, citrus and red grapefruit nose gets you going. With , 60 minutes of air, the wine softens, leaving you with elegant, fresh, citrus and stone notes. Still young, this has serious aging potential.

Powerful aromas of coconut and citrus. Dense and powerful, lots of coconut oak on the entry, opening out with layers of creamy lemon and tropical passion fruit notes. Layers of flavour wrapped in zippy acidity. The oak characteristics return on the finish with a lingering butterscotch note. Fantastic, but still so very young.

Very clear, with a light golden hue. Hay, lemon, dried herbs. Lightly perfumed, but alluring in every way. Pure zesty lemons with passionfruit bite, poised, crisp and wonderfully balanced. Has a delicacy to it I wasn't expecting, but superb dry extract and long lingering intensity of flavour. Dried herbs and French oak add spice and character but citrus fruit dominates with a lovely lanolin creamy edge. Semillon winning at this point, all for the good. SB adds some character but not dominant, just right. Perfect drinking for me now, but plenty of life in it to see it through to its second decade.

Peter brought this one with him from the UK. Nose of citrus & some oak. Pretty full bodied, weighty wine, very nice mouth feel. Some minerality here, along with some mango, and other tropical notes. Good length. Copious amount of spicy oak here, but very well integrated making for a fairly elegant, well-rounded & nicely balanced wine. Drinking very nicely right now but has a solid 5-10 years of good drinking ahead. All at the table enjoyed this one.

Tuesday night in H-town with dontime (Lucio's BYOB, Houston): Fortunate enough to try this again. Great nose of grapefruit, lime, fresh cut hay, lemon oil, and spicy oak. On the palate surprisingly full-bodied with bright citrus, chive, and a nice sweet note from the oak treatment. Long finish, this will improve with time. Drink or hold, no big hurry here.

This was a classy bottle of wine. It had a very fine line of minerality, a fair whack of oak (which wasn’t out of balance) and good length on the palate. Really excellent with the perfectly cooked scallops which brought out tropical hints in the wine. Remarkably young for an 8YO Bdx Blanc

The wine opens with with its showy display of honeysuckle, citrus rind, minerality and Meyer lemon aromatics. Rich and concentrated, with lush ripe fruit blended with refreshing acidity. This is a strong example of white Bordeaux that can be enjoyed today, or aged as it's only going to get better over the next decade.

Dinner with Mark Roberson of Goedhuis (Jade Palace, Forum Galleria): I have always liked this wine, and this excellent bottle was no exception, even though it seemed to be in a slightly awkward stage of development. It opened with a lovely nose, where a layer of creamy, vanilla-infused oak notes swam alongside lovely scents of peaches and cream, a touch of tropical sweetness and something red-fruited that almost reminded me of fresh raspberries. A really nice bouquet. The wine had certainly taken on some weight and richness over the past few years - in the mouth, the palate was richly textured and flavourful, with bright flavours of passionfruit and green mango, even pomegranate, riding on a rich, creamy base that coated the midpalate. It would almost have been unctuous if not for a bright stream of grapefruity acidity running through the midpalate and into the finish. It was right at the end where the wine did not show quite as well as on previous occasions, with lemony cirtus notes sticking out in an almost tart fashion, and that little streak of spice and mineral that I liked in previous bottle had more or less disappeared. I have no doubt this will continue to develop and knit together in the bottle, but even as it was, this was delicious. A great pairing with fried frog-legs and ginger slices too. However, all said, I would leave this aside for a couple of years to see where it goes from here.

Drank at dinner with Heinz and the gang. This one just jumps from the glass with citrus, grass, asparagus, nutty notes and minerals. Palate is almost viscous and intense. Nicely evolved, complex and mature nose. Tertiary, terroir elements dominate the mellowing taste: lanolin, wax, flint, pebbly almost, while some hard-to-define fruit aroma's still linger. Fatty mouthfeel. Good long finish. Prime time drinking now, will stay around for a lot longer.

Purchased on release, aerated for about an hour. That 15% Semillon adds much more complexity and weight than can be accounted for by the blend. And yet the quality of the Sauvignon fruit is exemplary. Substantial and very long, young and decades of evolution ahead, particularly from this vintage. Love it.

WFA Bordeaux 2005/2006 Tasting by the Wine Review (Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore): A gorgeous wine. Some buttery oak notes on the palate, but with lots going on alongside. Nice chalky mineral notes on the top-note, and lots of fruit in the shape of apples and pineapples gurgling along just below. Much the same on the palate. A little layer of coconutty oak on the attack, then lovely clean pineapple and white fruit flavours below along with little nutmeg tones. Just a little buried under the oak at the moment, but this will evolve nicely. It certainly had great lines, with nice acidity sculpting the creamy richness of the wine beautifully. Really long finish too, with more cream and a nice touch of oyster shell mineral. Very good indeed.

Purchased on release. Beautiful rich and seductive. Such a nice firm combination of the best of Sauvignon Blanc acidity and Semillon body, combining to create a unique and delicious wine that is different from, but rivals in quality the classic Premier and Grand Crus of Burgundy. This vintage is very balanced and I get the sense has a long life ahead. Give it some air now -- 30 minutes to an hour help it gain even more power and beauty. Wait a few more years if you can stay away. Impressive and wonderful blanc.

A lot of wood spice on the nose along with a ball of exotic fruits (think mango, paw paw and rockmelon). It has very good shape in the mouth and is super complex, evolving slowly in the glass.

I'm going to work through additional bottles soon to see if I have a bad batch or if I'll experience the quality noted in the pro reviews. Might try decanting to see if the nose freshens with air and time.

The wood pokes out a bit but one senses the superb potential of this wine that appears still very youthful.

White and Red 2005 Bordeaux (The Wine Club, San Francisco): Medium yellow. Complex nose showing mostly Semillon with some grassier notes. Absolutely harmonious palate and mouth feel without any sense of heaviness. Long, delicious, classic white Graves, this outclassed the other 2 whites in this tasting by a mile.

Golden color with excellent acidity. a nose of spicey persimmon, honey suckle, and grapefruit wrapped with hints of sweet lemon, this wine was drinking beautifully youthful but with the finesse of age. Hints of fig made this an enjoyable compliment to oysters on the half shell, crab cake, and scampi appetizers. We followed with the 2000 Grand Puy -Lacoste for the beef filet.

UGC LA: Fatter, a bit earthy, very lacking finesse here, tastes like acid juice finish.

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2005 & 2006 Tasting (Hyatt, Century City): I find the nose on this wine to have Sauternes like tone with aromas of pineapple, botrytis, and honey. The palate is more restrained with a more Sauvignon Blanc character including flavors of lime, honeydew, and stones. I particularly like the contrast between the nose and palate of this wine.

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2005 vintage tasting and dinner (Conrad Interntational, Singapore): UGC tasting. Really good. Surprisingly forward with tropical notes like candied pineapple ungirded with citrusy accents and some nutty flavours all wrapped in a cloak of well applied oak. Mouthwateringly fresh, great balance, long finish.

Among the very best whites from Bordeaux and 2005 is no exception. A terrific acidity balanced with particularly rich ripeness. Though tout on the palate, which shows nuance and subtlety, pleasing peach and pear flavors seduce the taster. Bottle tasting.

BORDEAUX 2005 / Graves reds and whites tasted in 2006 (Bordeaux): Closed first nose, second nose is more citrus with grapefruit on the palate and some sweet vanilla too. Nice and fresh palate with some pineapple and a linear focus of flavor. Serious wine! 90-93

2005 Bordeaux en Primeur; 3/26/2006-3/28/2006 (Bordeaux France): En Primeur tasting. Very attractive aromatic start, amongst the best of the room. Good weight, good fruit, slight bitter finish for now, so cellar at least a few years. 89-91 point potential.
