not blind, at the winery Side by side with the 2011. I would go with this one. Balanced, power, length and some roasted aromas. Refreshing acidity. well done. 94

Opened around 2 hours before serving. Poured into Grassl Libertes. Drank alongside a 2008 Doyard Lumieres, which was much richer in style. This had a toasty, smoky, almost skunky nose. Good richness of texture, with lemon zest and more toast on the palate. Solid, but outclassed by the Doyard.

NobleRottersSydney - Hidden Lable Night (Glass Brasserie, Sydney): {cork, 12%} [Guest - Adam] A grand nose indeed; terrific bread, yeast, cheese; the ultimate bakery. Intense & powderful. Polished palate of impressive integrity. Rich, creamy texture, tropically rich yellow fruits, medium acid, full weight, fine creamy bubbles, long finish. Much wow factor. Hugely drinkable. Fabulous stuff.

kɹʌɡ wɪθ dʌɡ (Chicago, IL): I dunno if I was being edgy or what when I called this one of the best editions in a long while, but at least tonight, this was an underperformer based on how I remember this wine. A bit more thin, with a relatively disjointed palate presence. Not particularly intense or rich, tonight's bottle ticked the boxes and that was it. Perhaps it's more of a younger-drinking edition (actually, that sounds like a plausible answer).

Beautiful gold color. Silky mouthfeel. complex, mellow melange of aromas and flavors-baked apple, brioche, yeast etc. Everything perfectly integrated together. Really in a class of its own.

40th Birthday celebration for I (Sushi Yuki): Pnp, ID 118002, gold yellow in colour, coming after old MV, this was fresher with floral, hint of asparagus, slightly sweet on the palate with hint of oxidative notes. Definitely could age for at least 8 years before revisiting.

Collector's bottle kindly shared. I quite liked this at it was very precisely drawn on the nose and attack, good minerality but then just a bit too lean on the mid palate. Does not deliver the wow one hopes for halfway in.

Drank with a burgundy glass. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of toast, biscuit, brioche, yeast, lemon, grapefruit, apple, pear. This is probably the best bottle I have so far (third bottle). High acidity and long finish. I probably think the bigger glass have help to balance up the palate.

It’s have been 3 year since I last drank 167 edition. That last which I gave a lowest score of 86 which is high acidity and unbalanced. Today, my rating improve. Medium nose intensity with notes of lemon, apple, pear, bread, biscuit, brioche. High acidity and medium+ finish. Will need another few years to reach optimal drinking window.

Nose was a bit damp at first, bit opened up after 15-30 minutes. This was from a 375ml bottle. Nose showed citrus, walnut and a bit of warm toasted almost burnt bread. Palate is smooth, very fine mousseux and a nice creaminess to the citric acidity. Overall I was a bit underwhelmed looking at the label and price point. It lacks complexity and seemed closed down. Maybe give it another 5+ years.

It's obviously well made in the bready, yeasty house style. Balanced and finishes clean. Heavier style in the spectrum. Looking more complexity after bubbles diffuses.

Drank from a 375 at Les Parc in Reims. Such a delicious wine that is overflowing with apple, orange, lemon juice. There are still yeasty/autolytic notes to be found with toasty brioche throughout. Spice/ginger/nutmeg are also present. At not point was it too acidic/austere or rich/cloying. Expertly balanced and blended.

March Madness Wine Tasting: Always a great way to start a night of wine tasting with friends. Who would have known we would be having the 2000 vs. 2002 vintage Krug later in the evening? It would have been fun to taste all three blinded next to each other.

Despite being based on the challenging 2011 vintage, the eme 167 is a great success. It's beautiful today in the 375cc format. Yellow apple, orange rind, saline, lemon juice and glycerin; yeasty/autolytic. With air, a gorgeous orange and savory brown spice/ginger/nutmeg note. It walks the tightrope between richness and airiness.

Was expecting a leaner profile for this wine as the base year was 2011, though upon opening, this wine was rich and round with fruits leaning more towards pear and apple; citrus nowhere to be found; with a whiff of smoke on the nose. Drank over a few hours and the wine did start to lean out and shed some of its heft towards the end. This bottle surprised to the upside.

Krug Lunch (7x GC, 7x Vintage, 3x CdM, 1x CdA): Seven Grand Cuvees: 157, 163, 164, 167, 168, 169 and 170th. No surprise that the better base vintages showed best. The 157th (95 pts) showed most round and complete due to the extended age. The 164 (95 pts), 168 and 169th (both 94+ pts) all show good substance and superb acidic spine for graceful ageing. The 164th, from magnum, has an elegance to it which is above all others. The 170th (90pts), 167th (92 pts) and 163th (93+ pts) seem a bit leaner compared to the others and not all of them will be very long-lived iterations. But this tasting showed clearly, that even the lesser vintages of Grand Cuvees easily need minimum 10 years after disgorgement to start to truly shine.
TN: Medium expressive, citrus and toast-driven nose. On the palate expressive bright citrus fruit, yellow orchard fruits, apples, some toasty notes, a bit buttery notes. Very fresh but already well rounded and harmonious. Probably a bit too fruity but a very decent, elegant Champagne from start to finish. This is probably a bit riper than I would like my Champagnes to be and the minerality component and acidity backbone seem not strong enough, to balance it out. Still a good wine, that will gain of a few more years of cellaring.

Krug Tasting (Memories Bad Ragaz): Krug tasting hosted by a merchant and collector. Main takeaways: 1/ Clos du Mesnil and the 1996 back vintage were show-stoppers, 2/ 164 was in a different league of the Grande Cuvée line-up, 3/ a general feature and maybe signature for Krug for me was the fine integration of autolytic notes into a balance of fruit and mineral notes. The textures tend to be soft with just a splash of cream and structures built around acidity. 4/ Clos du Mesnil towers over the vintage and GCs in terms of precision, complexity and elegance.
Tasting note: Base 2011. Cépages 47% PN, 36% Ch, 17% PM. 6 years on lees, degorged Q1 2018. Pear and a bit of citrus fruit, plus toast notes. Felt more fresh and less ripe than the following 3 releases. More lean also on the palate, mostly built on acidity and as harmonious as the others as 168 or 169.
Alex Bday. OMG this was good! Very nutty, yeasty sourdough nose. Extremely fine elegant creamy mousse. Ends lifted with grapefruit pith. Would have loved to have spent more time contemplating this fantastic glass.

Man, 167eme is freaking awesome right now. Finely detailed, broad and expansive, and more on the oxidative side than the recent 168/169 releases. While its young, it's not even close to being distractingly so. Top notch stuff.

Krug GC 162-169eme (Chicago, IL): 118012. This has always been a bit of an outlier to me; it's borne of a pretty mediocre Champagne year, but the Maison managed to throw in a little more of the reserve juice to amp up the wine (at least, that's what I think the story is). This does show a slight herbal note here that I hadn't really noticed before, but this does get a bit of weight on the palate, belying the shoddy vintage. A nice bottle of Krug, more in line with the older, more ornate style.

The Krug 167 has the 2011 as its base and the success of this wine illustrates the real advantage of having a multi-vintage wine to fall back on when the base is so difficult. This opens nicely with an hour of air, showing Meyer lemon, brioche, a little white pepper and hazelnut. Appealing Krug richness in the mouth. It might not be the most successful Krug MV, but it’s still a successful Krug MV. Half at Winslow’s; glassware could have been better.

Backlog. 167nd edition. Small bottle. Straw yellow in the glas. Brioche, butter, cellar apples, minerals and something earthy/forrest floor-ish on the nose. Dry. Rich, mature fruit. Vivid acidety. Citrus, apples, marzipan and honey. Long, fresh exit, with hazelnut and vanilla. I wish I bought a bigger bottle...😅 Just 👌🍾🥂🍾

SQ319 - London to Singapore (Singapore Airlines): Krug 167. 47% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay, 17% Pinot Meunier. Built around the 2011 vintage. Very yummy. This had a lovely nose, with nutty macadamia notes and toasted brioche mingling with ripe apples. Very alluring and very Krug. This smelt really different from its youth, with the age on the wine and the smaller bottle format on SQ telling in its development. The palate was on one hand rich, ripe and powerful, but on the other, also fresh, sleek and juicy, with bright acidity and a chewy mousse framing deliciously generous flavours of red apples and brioche, all still enlivened by a real energetic burst of mouthwatering lemons on the midpalate. Everything is starting to come into place with this bottle - it felt bright and youthful, but also well integrated and nicely balanced. Great long finish too, with mineral tones pulling away from on the back-palate and into the distance. Super stuff, starting to drink nicely now.

Austere compared to most other Krug GC experiences. It’s not exactly imbalance - I would not mark this edition as having more pronounced acidity than others. The minerality dominates the fruit and even the acidity here. Same laser-like focus I expect from Krug but this time delivered without pity. Respectable but less enjoyable than other grande cuvées. That all said, still a forceful and appropriate accompaniment to smoked salmon and gougeres. Score: 90. Relative to expectations: -

Sangiovese study (Chicago, IL): Pretty big fan of this release, despite the weak base year. I suspect a little bit of that 2001 story has happened here as well. This is broader and sweeter than some of the surrounding releases, and there's more weight on the palate too. The fruit still feels a little more taut than I would want for Krug, but for this edition, at least it is trending in the right direction.

Dinner at Nikki's (Gallop Singapore): Krug 167. 47% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay, 17% Pinot Meunier. Built around the 2011 vintage, this was a very accessible, easy-to-drink Grande Cuvee. It had a nice nose, a little on the ripe smelling side I thought, with apples and lemons lined with some chalky mineral tones and a gentle waft of spice. The palate showed some of the sweetness suggested on the nose in its red appley expressions, but this was nicely rounded up with lemony acidity and a fine, soft mouse, which all contributed to give the wine a very pure, and rather fine feel on the mouth. Juicy purity and easy drinkability aside, the finish was pure Krug - super long and effortlessly persistent. Not the most complex, but all in all, a really nice Champagne, albeit one built more for the medium rather than really long term.

I love Krug in half bottles. It’s approachable so much earlier than the 750’s. This, a 167 from base year 2011. Don’t let the weak base vintage discourage you; this is a great Grande Cuvèe. Saline, lemon juice and glycerin; yeasty yellow fruit. With air, a gorgeous orange and savory brown spice/ginger/nutmeg note. Drinking remarkably well in this format.

Have generally always felt Krug was overrated relative to my expectations and the price, but this was amazing. One of the better champagnes I've had, lot of length, lemon, honeysuckle, golden rays of sunshine with nice sparkling minerality, toasted almonds

In a good spot...and so young! This wine is classic Krug...then again, it should be! Lemon-lime creme and right down the middle of oxidative vs reductive. Butter creme, herbal chamomile tea. Acidic yellow fruit backbone. After a Krug Rosé 22eme, this one really didn't seem worthy. Yet, at the same time, it just seemed like it was just the way things were naturally supposed to progress! I have another bottle of this, and will probably choose to hold for the next 2-3 years to see how this will progress.

May be the best champagne I've had. Perfect balance of sweetness without cloying. Long finish and good over the whole evening. Nice to know great champagne is good.
Full, rich, open nose. Yellow orchard fruit. Oak and malo notes. Gravelly minerality. Pure. Fullish, very rich palate. Dense and toasty. Lovely. Almost coffee. Orange and red apple, Citrus and popcorn. Complex and balanced with a lovely acidic spine. Long. Drinking great now with beginning maturity.

A better bottle in the sense more ready and giving than the one had 3 months ago ( Papies 92 ) and the difference a few months make in disgorgement ( this received the cork in the winter 2017/2018 ) with Krug ID 118008 . Hazelnut, toasty, soft rich fruit. Welcoming but also serious and full of depth and getting its full stride we felt albeit a few more years would do wonders. 93+ for now and getting there.

Had this wine again with a few collectors. I really showed well. 2011 as a base is a weak vintage but what they crafted here at Krug is remarkable. The wine is not weaker than the other Grand Cuvees I recently had, it is just readier to drink and may not last that long, but wow, how succulent this bottle was today. Expressive and wonderfully complex nose of butter, biscuit, white flowers and citrus. Also on the palate a dream, fresh and creamy, excellent balance. A joy to drink.

Second time around on the 167 and it didn't disappoint. Very expressive on the nose with baked apple, lemon curd, brioche, and bread dough aromas with crushed limestone and a slight floral lift. Full bodied with a very delicate mousse and tight, focused acidity. Very long finish. Excellent companion with oysters and bay scallops.

Monthly Boys' Wine Night - Champagne & Old Bordeaux (Island Room, Hong Kong Country Club, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Light green-gold. Subdued mousse but very persistent streams of tiny bubbles. Nose is like a young Montrachet.....all lovely citric acidity of lemons and lemon rind. Palate has a similarly lazer intensity. Very good indeed and was scintillating with Cantonese crab soup. I really think that Krug pairs so well with understated high-end Cantonese cuisine. My last bottle but will buy more as this has years to improve.....every bottle has been better than the last.

The Society of St Tryfon Dinner (The RAC, London): It’s the second Krug Grand Cuvee to miss the spot for us in the last few weeks ( 168 - Papies 90) and we feel that these releases need a lot more ageing post disgorgement to hit their full stride. It didn’t help that if followed in the wake of a great DP 2008 ( Papies 95) but still we expected a lot more. A fuller wine, very toasty on the nose too, richer on the palate , light oxidative . A great wine in all but given the pedigree we were expecting a lot more. We have a few more and we will age them for a minimum 5 more years.

This is a nice NV Krug . I had it with friends after our Covid hiatus. Colorwise, light to medium yellow color. Apples, honey and toasted brioche. For sure this Krug has sharp acidity and is fizzy. Perlage is fine and persistent with delicate mousse for a long time. I like the floral smell but not as good as one with Cristal. If you do not like strong acidity, Cristal 2009 is drier and offers a better choice. This Krug comes with medium alcohol, amazingly long finish and well age. I heard about that this NV Krug is mostly done around vintage 2011. Any comment here with base vintage of this NV 167eme edition ? It is an enjoyable experience.
One of the birthday bottles I opened to celebrate my 33rd. This was taken to one of the best local farm-to-table spots in Dallas/Fort Worth, and was paired with some grilled Texas Iberico pork. Spectacular pairing!
I’ve now had the 167 a handful of times over the last two years. It has a base of the 2011 vintage, and seems to show the coldness of that vintage as this is quite light...doesn’t flex Krug’s signature powerful and rich profile. Aromatically it comes across closer to Charles Heidsieck where it sports reserve wine but doesn’t seem like there was any oak here. The palate shows stone fruits, wet rock, chalky limestone and yeast picking up the longer it’s in the glass. Very balanced and down the middle. I normally pick up ginger, and often toffee, with Krug, but not the case here. Not sure if this is a consume early type edition, or a forget about it for years type edition. Reminds me of Krug’s 2004 vintage champagne which is almost more Salon like than Krug like. Regardless, it’s hard to be let down by Krug if you enjoy the style.

Started off with a weird burnt popcorn nose, but a beautiful soft creamy palate with a gentle finish. None of the popcorn on the palate. About 30minutes after opening, it changed to caramel on the nose, and about 2 hours after, kind of like a lemon cake with a slightly caramelised crust. Really nice bottle and a beautiful experience. I think it has plenty more time, but curious what additional waiting would result in.

Bravo,Krug! I initially had the same negative experience as Waterintowine below: sharp acid, off balance, no creaminess and just not that pleasant at New Year’s Eve dinner even after an hour open and using a Zalto universal glass. I thought the very young 168 much better. Ready to be burnt at the stake, I decided to leave 3 oz overnight in the refrigerator— uncapped. Amazing transformation this evening- the acidic lemon became lemon curd, the creaminess emerged, the elements came together with greater complexity and depth. In short, too young — and wonderful.

For the love of god, please decant and/or let this breathe for at least an hour (two is better). It’s not all about bubbles! Sharp delicious lemon at first PnP, very long layered finish.
After an hour in the glass, massive stack of herbs, nuts, fruits, HERBS come through and it is just incredible. Had next to pc egly, no comparison. Just amazing wine that rewards with the patience it receives. Holy f’ing dakine. Mill House haul. Yes please.

I was a bit disappointed with this champagne. I found it slightly tart and with too much citrus fruit and bitterness. Lots of lemon and sharp green apples. I think that other grand cuvees have been stronger and the 2011 base didn't quite work as well here. The reserve wines do help, but the base could be the issue. At this stage it was quite unbalanced and perhaps its simply too young? Would be keen to try again. Drank for NYE 2020
Based on the 2011 vintage but with reserve wines dating back to 1995. Disgorged July 2018. 191 different wines from 13 different vintages... wow! 47% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay and 17% Pinot Meunier with around 7 years on the less.
Light golden tint with some very fine and small racy bubbles. On the nose there was both dried and pickled citrus fruits, flowery notes and some ginger and gunpowder mixed into it. Palate had pickled citrus fruits, nougat, buttery brioche, caramel and a hint of honey. Mouthwatering with every single sip. It’s amazing what Krug manage to do with the GC!

Champagne - 100 Vintage and NV Champagne; 12/15/2015-12/15/2020: Discrete nose with opened up significantly as the wine sat in the glass. Wonderful nose with just the right amount of tertiary notes of bruised apples, combined with bakery, flowers and yellow fruit. Important to give this some time to open up. As always, Krug's NV Grand Cuvee is about at the same level than the prestige Cuvee of the large houses.

Another Birthday Dinner for Angela (Our House, Hong Kong): Golden hay colour. Extremely lively and generous mousse even though served in wine glasses.....endless busy streams of microscopic bubbles... all very pleasant on the eye. Nose is really 'oh...', so light and subtle, diaphanous in its layers of sea breeze, fresh quince, camomile, green apples, grapefruit skin and framed by fresh straw in the background. The palate is really minerally and vibrant, oyster shells and fizzing Epsom salts...wow...with a 'weightless' weight. This is much more powerfully resonant and reverberant 'inside the head' than the palate would lead you to expect. Gosh, this is so young but already so gorgeous, especially when paired with subtle Cantonese food (I am a great believer in Krug as a food wine rather than as an aperitif). However, I suspect this will be an Edition to best drink young.

At Operakallaren. Next to Dom Perignon 08. This has such a lovely maturity. Hazelnuts and some Madeira-notes in it. Generous. Doesn’t loose focus though. Acidity is ample and the mousse is great. More a full bodied champagne and evident when comparing to the Dom, which itself isn’t remarkably skinny.
167eme edition based on 2011 with 191 different wines in the blend across 13 vintages - oldest 1995. Made in that slightly oxidative style (ie. hint of wet wool/cardboard) as say Bollinger or Selosse which isn't my personal favourite but I know many will love it. Rich and full but with an absolutely pinpoint mousse and laser like acidity, this is certainly drinkable now but will benefit from a couple more years in your cellar. Serious champagne and not really an aperitif, but I can't think of a better wine to go with say cottage pie or a hot sausage roll. "

PnP and then drank over an hour and half. Starts off with yeasty attack with a heavy lime mid palate focused by a laser zing taking you to the finish. After an hour the honey (not sweet) layer starts to show through which is a welcome addition to the overall palate. The finish is long and is mostly composed of lime, ginger and a gravelly rock undertone that lasts over a full minute. 92+ hold for one year.
It was a nice comparison to the 168 and they are at this very stage two different animals yet they are 100% from the same house. Both need time, but of course are very drinkable/enjoyable now. Will keep checking in on these at regular intervals but the 168 seems to have a bit more complexity and structure. Tme alone will unvail the beauty hidden beneath.

tasted next to the 164th edition (which I preferred over this) nose - hazelnut mouth - very fresh, slightly smoky, quite complex but quite different than the 164. very illustrative to taste side by side. the Torino gang preferred the 167 ‘tonight’. Hold
orange/ lemony nose with orange peel, marmalade. Sensational on the palate, there's an almost Tokaji-like tang here. Even a little VA, big and a bit wild. This is great fun. Then yeast, hazelnuts and more. Very very long. I love this.
Flickinger Customer Appreciation Tasting (Casino Club): This Edition doesn't get as much love as other recent Editions, and probably rightfully so, but it's still darn good Champagne. Bold nose with plenty of orchard fruit, baked bread and toast. Dense with good richness and energy. Finish is perhaps simple and shorter than other editions.
Okay Krug Grande Cuvee, is still damn good in my book.

Champagne is often my favourite drink when I’m happy or sad. But drinking 167 edition make me sad as its way too young to consume it today. Should have drink it 5 years later, but I can always revisit 167 edition again and I’m quite certain it will improve vastly.

Tasted blind. I thought this might be a grower wine, but it had a little bit of that oxidation note that you will find in big house sparklers. I wasn't sure which way to go but Krug was not my first guess. This bottle shows the same mouth feel as other Krug I've tasted, there is a light fluffy texture to the wine. Citrus and lime flavors, very clean.

118007. Blend of vintages from 1995 through 2011, composed of 191 wines. My notes from last night say lime, lime, lime! Apple tart, superb balance and an aroma of crushed rocks. Even at the 3 hour mark with this open, it retains a sexy, limey core that was the bottle of the night for me. First Krug I have bought and opened, this lived up to the reputation and quality I was hoping to taste.

Improves with time- highly suggest decanting or at least allowing it to open up in the glass for a while. If not you notice more of the cut and sharp lemon than the complexity that develops at the post 30 minute mark. Wonderful acidity but well integrated from start to finish- speaking of finish it is very very long (same experience with my other bottle) mineral and lemon driven finish that doesn’t quit. The attack brings a wonderful Meyer lemon to the front that builds into the mid palate with an ever so slight bread/yeast component and ginger that falls away to the mineral underpinnings that take you through the finish.
Cerebral, not really but does get you thinking why is there no more Krug left and where did it go. With my limited Krug knowledge and champagne for that matter, I would like to hold this for a bit to allow the complexity to grow allowing the yeasty underpinnings to move up a bit which will only increase the score further.

This is seriously good. There's a fine nose of toast, cinnamon, fresh lemon and chalk. Bead is super-fine and it has a tart line of crisp citrus. There's good volume and loads of spice. flavours envelop the mouth then draw into a singular minerally point. It has great cut and length and is seriously classy.

(Base year 2011 with reserves back to 1990, 47% Pinot Noir, 17% Meunier and 23% Chardonnay) Lovely nose showing roasted coffee, jasmin flowers and a spiciness. Oily lime citrus acidity, but with a shorter finish. Good effort from the vintage.

Krug House (2006 release) (Chicago, IL): 118007. Not the greatest GC, but a phenomenally delicious and easy-drinking one. It's lighter in style; quite expressive with the fruit and less so on the structure. Sweet golden apples dominate the fruit profile, and while there are some of the classic nutty elements hidden under the exuberant fruit, this is largely dominated by the accessible fruit character. I don't think there's enough structure here for this edition to be long-lived (cf. the massive 164eme), but for drinking now, this is a splendid wine.

Krug House (2006 release) (Chicago, IL): 118007. Much better than I would have guessed, given the base, but I guess in the worse years, they put in more reserve wine, so it actually bulks up the quality. Nonetheless, this is probably the easiest drinking GC since the 163eme, and I'll confess to liking this a little more. It's got the classic richness, but stylistically it's a little more open-knit and approachable, with a hint of juicy sweetness. Just goes to show the average quality of the GC year in, year out.

47/36/17 Pinot/Chard/Meunier. Medium plus nose shows brioche, yeast, apple biscuit, yellow flowers, mineral tones like wet rock. Palate matches but more linear style than nose, acidity does well, lemon zest layers, dried pineapple, curd notes from lees, lemon yogurt, lovely complexity overall.

Always nice to drink Krug, some ginger, brioche, backed apples, pear n the nose, palate is an example of purity, with a really elegant but energetic mousse, medium plus acidity and a long for finish

Noseof apple, lemon, spring flowers, and slate, same on the palate, medium/big body, good acid, slightly soft, slightly fruit forward, not the usual WOW wine but very good none the less, medium/long finish.

bright champagne color, sweet nose, orchard fruits, primary and as yet not highly defined, notes of white blossoms, on the palate a fine luxurious cream is already evident and starting to unfurl, soft mousse notes, great length, a calm Grand Cuvee and yet exciting in its way, a great example of why it is dangerous to judge this wine by its base- if this develops as I hope it will be a shining and very classic Grand Cuvee, lacking the singular nature of the 164 and 165 but qualitatively every bit as good.

Great match of bracing acidity and deep power. Loses a little - and only a little - elegance as a result. Strong lemon and brioche on the nose. Hazelnut, macadamia, lemon sorbet on the palate. Slight sweetness develops after the first blast of acidity. Krug is always a full force champagne but this is even more in your face than usual. Already fully developed, not going to improve. Score: 93. Relative to expectations: 0

Le Tour de Champagne Tasting (Hotel Intercontinental Amstel, Amsterdam, NL): Trade tasting, brief note. Base vintage 2011. Ever so slightly uneven on the nose - maybe a hint of cork? Unrivalled Krug complexity, fresh and with a deep minerality, also vinous and mature notes, all wrapped into a seamless whole. Not for the very long haul.

Tasting, brief note. Plenty of apple with lemon and toasted rye bread, then some lemon peel and faint spice. Good weight and length. Will improve with a little age, but probably best 1-4 years from now.
Napa with friends; 8/15/2019-8/18/2019 (Napa, CA): Paired with caviar on a swelteringly hot evening - this was just what the doctor ordered. Typically consistent Krug performance with bright lemony acidity and brioche notes on finish. When paired with the super briny caviar - almost a hint of sweetness came through on the wine today which I never have picked up in Krug before - interesting to see the impact of the food on the wine.

from half bottle. using krug ID, 47% pinot noir, 36% chardonnay, 17% meunier, and received its cap in 2017.
Darker golden color, with faint amount of slightly coarse bubbles. Nose complex, fruity, golden fruits, lemon, some yeasty richness. Mouth watering tartness on nose. Palate rich, figgy fruit, nutty yet complex, bright acidity. Some maple/honey.
Wonderful, very classy even for a more difficult vintage. When drinking them young, I've enjoyed the halves of Krug GC more than the 750s which likely needed more age, and this bottle was no exception, ready for business now in half format. 94 pts
Lemon and apple, crisp and not as complex, but more melded, than most Krug GC at this young age. Not the "wow" factor from the 2010 and 2008-based editions, but still a wonderful thing for near-term drinking.

Color pajizo. Estupendo.

2nd of the champagnes tasted and I preferred this to the '12 Herbrart Special Club. Typically Krug nose and palate, with some toast and richness coupled with lifting acidity. Always enjoyable and very consistent - perhaps give this a few years to open up a bit more.

First look at this cuvee from a 375ml and frankly it wears the deficiencies of the vintage pretty clearly... following a run of strong Grande Cuvee releases (164-166), the Cuvee 167 is an out-and-out failure when you factor the price point in. I'd rather have any number of grower champagnes at less than half the cost of this.

Tasting note:
Base 2011.

This is broader and sweeter than some of the surrounding releases, and there's more weight on the palate too.

Acidic yellow fruit backbone. After a Krug Rosé 22eme, this one really didn't seem worthy. Yet, at the same time, it just seemed like it was just the way things were naturally supposed to progress! Fullish, very rich palate. Dense and toasty. Lovely. Almost coffee. Orange and red apple, Citrus and popcorn. Complex and balanced with a lovely acidic spine. Long.
Drinking great now with beginning maturity.

Hazelnut, toasty, soft rich fruit. Welcoming but also serious and full of depth and getting its full stride we felt albeit a few more years would do wonders. 93+ for now and getting there.

Still youthful but already showing great integration with detailed citrus fruits and bread, yeasty notes.
On palate it needs some time in glass but amazingly enjoyable after some airing.

Beautiful wine.

Just goes to show the average quality of the GC year in, year out.

bright champagne color, sweet nose, orchard fruits, primary and as yet not highly defined, notes of white blossoms, on the palate a fine luxurious cream is already evident and starting to unfurl, soft mousse notes, great length, a calm Grand Cuvee and yet exciting in its way, a great example of why it is dangerous to judge this wine by its base- if this develops as I hope it will be a shining and very classic Grand Cuvee, lacking the singular nature of the 164 and 165 but qualitatively every bit as good.

From split- needed 20 min to open up. Pure elegance. I don’t see this improving much. Will hold forever. Still imho best value wine on the market

Krug Paired with Great Music (Louis Vuitton - Chicago IL): Green and yellow apple in the forefront with background spice, lemon and lemon peel. Good weight, better length, coming across with toasted brioche on finish.

Tasted next to 166. 167 has distinctive pineapple note vs 166.

from half bottle. using krug ID, 47% pinot noir, 36% chardonnay, 17% meunier, and received its cap in 2017.

Estupendo.

Bright clean and wound up. Nice minerality and cut with good volume. Serious breed in a lighter package for this edition.

(2011 base): sitron, stram, noe bitterhet, svakt rik, noe kantete. Vil sikkert bli bedre med en god del år på baken, men ikke helt overbevisende (spesielt ikke gitt prisen).

Dinner with 11 Bottles of Krug (Dusek’s - Chicago IL): Bright start with green apple, lemon and lemon peel. Similar flavors, just a touch of lemon pith along with peel, giving a slightly bitter note on the finish that I simultaneously liked and didn’t liked. 2011 base vintage.
