Freshest bottle of 82 I’ve have. Wow. Just bright fresh and bubbly with the roundness and softness of aged champagne. Just killer. Flavor profile of 96 with out edginess. And none of the brioche nuttiness!

Robinson wine dinner at mad cap Dark gold color. Classic aged champagne yeasty nose. Really fun to drink this aged beauty. Picking up notes of cherry and nuttiness. A treat. Likely peaked 10 years ago.

My first experience with an older Champagne and wow was I amazed, popped and poured over 2 hours with it being best at the end. Still had some carbonation that bubbled off after about 10 mini in the glass, was a bright golden color it looked exceptional. Nose was a little funky at first but after that blew off it had a very delightful toffee and butterscotch scent, flavors were the same with some caramel citrus and pear, had a nice crisp mouthfeel and a long finish. This was outstanding and makes me never want to drink young champagne again if this is what it will eventually become!
SAC: Evening of wines with some duck (Decoy): The wine of the dinner hands down. It was all of the things you want in old champagne. Poured four different bottles and each unique (I didn't get to try them all) but the ones I did were all good. Slight bit of freshness but all of the age character and slightly caramel and still decent bubbles and just overall drinking great.

1982 Bordeaux + some Pirates (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Clear, deep golden color. Clean, beautiful and fully developed nose. Some brioche and lots of warm, good caramel. On the palate surprisingly stable and fine Mousseux. Lots of caramel, creme brulee. Still fresh, beautiful acidity, very deep, good pressure, beautiful balance and harmony, great length. Champagne at its very peak! 94-95

Oxidized appearance. Tired but fine mousse. Oxidized buy largely intact fruit in the mouth with good depth and length. This bottle had bee stored in an abusive manner for 30 years before I was gifted the bottle back in 2010. All things considered, it was in remarkable condition and palatable with the outstanding sushi from Royal Sushi.

Matt’s 40th Party (Fallsington, PA): Cork broke, but got it out with a corkscrew. Still a bit of bubble to it. Amber color, loads of caramel, nuttiness and a slight Sherry note. There’s some sweet pear still, and even a little acid on the finish, but this seems to be a textbook example of well aged good vintage champagne.

From a well stored collection that included a few different vintages of Dom, but this was the oldest one so I didn't have the highest hopes for it. Turned out to still have bubbles and was excellent, maybe the best of the bunch if memory serves me right.

From a very well stored bottle this showed why 82 is one of my favourite P1 Dom to drink now (with 85, 90 and 95). Brought this out late in the evening as finisher after a terrific high end red Burg session. It had this typical Dom richness, still fresh, burnt toffee, salted macadamia. A great champagne and what a way to finish off a wonderful evening.
1982 Dom Perignon - cork came out with surprisingly low effort. Totally intact with mild back pressure
Appearance Bright orange amber Small, fine bubbles
Aroma White mushroom, slate, dry brush, fig, apricot, orange zest, cheese rind, Dried white flower, almond
Palate Streak of high mouth-filling acidity, light in body orange, briny, honey flavors predominate on the palate. fine fading mousse
Lengthy finish on orange → blood orange
Fully Mature and with a pleasant deep oxidative character as above, still retaining a ton of life. Extremely pleasant but past its peak...still I wouldn’t trade this experience for drinking it sooner. Enjoyed in a special moment with my family.

1982 Dom Perignon - Brilliant amber color: Subtle notes of marzipan, sweetness and delicate nuttiness - alternating with peach, candied lemon, creme brulee as well as fine caramel. Remnants of a fine perlage. Still surprisingly fresh on the palate; with lovely ripe acidity. An extremely complex and perfectly balanced champagne, which leaves nothing to be desired with its smoothness and its, silky velvety mouthfeel. The sweetness is perfectly buffered by the ripe acidity. Delicate saltiness and subtle hazelnut notes on the finish. This is borderline brilliant; perfectly aged in a private cellar for decades. - 99 points

My first time enjoying champagne with significant age; complex mature wine with honey and apricot flavors; decent effervescence upon opening with tiniest bubbles I’ve seen in a bottle of sparkling; may have been “better” five years ago, pending taste preferences; I believe the drinking window is still open on this until at least 2025 for those who appreciate aged champs.

We drank this bottle with our friends for their 39th Wedding Anniversary. The wine was a beautiful medium-dark color with lots of bubbles. Very smooth with a honey nut flavor and a surprise that it was still a delicious old vintage, properly stored in our cellar many years. Everyone enjoyed it.

The palate is creamy, powerful, it keeps a very nice freshness with a patinated acidity. It loosens completely in the mouth to release all the power of the aromas of honey to such an extent that we have the sensation of having a beehive in the mouth. The perfect balance of the wine means that we do not fall into heaviness and the finish switches to more tension with a nice floral length.
Definitely, we are never disappointed with the old Dom Pé, and this one is simply excellent once again.

Bottle was perfectly preserved. Amber in color, still effervescent. I found it very complex with apricot and an almost cognac like nose. Served between 45 and 55 degrees. I enjoyed it more towards the top end of the temperature range. Will look for more bottles as I believe they can go a few more years and still be greatly enjoyable.

DP, DPR, DPO, DPP2 (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida): Now the color is definitely gold and the stream is modest although appropriate for age. Slightly oxidative and it’s beginning to fatigue. Maybe partly due to the very prolific vintage there’s more age showing than brightness. But by no means undrinkable.

light gold aged champagne color, caramel notes, a gently pool of cream with sweet bread notes, sweet, savory, gentle, fine length, just as it was always so soft and lush in youth without any hard edges- so in full maturity it is a gentle and tranquil beauty, marvelous.
*****, ready to go and drink soon- I would not hold this like I would the 85

Darker amber-copper; very slight oxy note at first, but opened up with so much complexity and with style and balance; rich with old apricots, hint peanuts, yeast, walnuts, caramel, maple syrup, but still bright, light, and elegant at the same time with good lift and fine persistent bubbles; all this balanced out with a slight old fruit ripeness and ending with a long tangy sappy finish. Loved this. Tied for WOTN for me? Capital Seafood for DD.

This bottle didn't have many bubbles, but the wine tasted surprisingly youthful. Honeyed toasty nose, with yeast and torched fruits. Palate is nutty and slightly caramelized. Very distinct DP profile. Drink now or continue to hold if your bottle is in good condition.

Valentines with the SLDS - February 2018 Tasting: Violets and earth, cocoa, ginger and toasty notes. Deep and complex with superb balance on the palate, there is good acid structure that lends freshness to the mature fruit. Really long and flavourful, showing off outstanding elegance. Wonderful wine right at its peak.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume II (Chicago, IL): An original release, believe it or not. This still has some life in it, but it is a fully mature champagne. There are some caramel notes to the palate, as well as some bruleed fruit. A bit tropical and exotic in profile (slightly unexpected in that respect). Still a hint of effervescence, but it's on its last legs.

Only my second DP and my first '82 bubbly in over ten years! Wire cage sufficiently corroded to snap, requiring pliers to remove. Appropriately shrunken cork. Opened easily, but with a hiss, and in the glass it's bubbling merrily, still fully sparkling in the mouth. Rich gold colour. Fairly mild but wistful aroma, at first milky and chocolatey, then something a touch riesling-like, but it's just a good smell of well-aged white wine. If I'm honest, the taste is a touch underwhelming. It's lovely, quite crisp, very smooth, but so gentle - dare I say, meek? That being said, this is in great shape for a 35 year old champagne, and it's always a great privilege to taste something the same age as me. [Cork + cage; 12.5% abv; Ancient & Modern Wines, £270].

Amazingly good. Notes of yeast/fresh baked bread and a very clear DP flavor profile. Nice mouthfeel and still had a light effervescence. My WOTN at our recent tasting. Much better than I expected at 35 years old.

From magnum from Jeff. Wonderful gift that I decided to share with all our birthday guests. Golden hue. Beautiful and open, very Dom with the nutty, biscuit creamy soda nose. So fresh and young still. Delicious light pricks of gas infused into wonderfully balanced, ripe fruit. Touch of white nectarine. Lovely balance and uplift. Outstanding! I went around the tables drinking everyone's leftovers as I wasn't going to see any of this great champagne wasted!!!

Almost as astonishingly young as the 85 served alongside. Pale amber colour. Great balance and purity with sweet sherbet on the palate and hints of tertiary development coming too. Really fantastic. This and the 85 were almost identical to the first time I had the wines side by side - 15 years ago!

Still a bit of prickle from the fizz. Complex and rich nose of roasted nuts, biscuits, brioche and honey. It is full in the mouth with good intensity and a line of mineral acidity. There are some engaging truffle notes and it guilds and has plenty going on through the finish.

Dinner with friends at Elystan St; 4/24/2017-4/25/2017 (Elystan Street, London): A lovely burnished copper colour, still plenty of soft sparkle here and a nice fine bead. Rich biscuit, caramel, nuts, a little warm spice, really good depth of flavour and a lovely finish, the only problem was that a bottle wasn't enough between 4 and didnt last long. A really excellent bottle.

Dom Pérignon Dinner (Atara): Nose is simultaneously fresh and developed with honeycomb, marzipan, white flowers, and more amber honey. Decidedly more expressive than the '85, and with better energy too. An excellent bottle of champagne.

Somewhat disappointing, this '82 DP lacked drive and excitement, especially compared to the '82 Krug next to it. Composed and moderately complex, with a hint of espresso, decent acidity, it comes off as a good rather than great old Dom Pérignon that is unlikely to become more interesting with more bottle age.

Uncles Fine Wine Club’s - Grand Cru Tasting (Bodø): A 34 year old Dom Perignon really gives a perspective of what this producer is capable of, making Champagne with superb longevity. On the nose there is mostly mature fruit aromas of baked pear, dried apricots, figs and dates. A bit phenolic and with supple dairy and cotton candy underneath. Still fizzy and alive (tough bubble have been reduced) and the palate is surprisingly fresh. Complex and long with a nutty finish.

Uncle Fine Wine Club Fall BYO; 10/14/2016-10/15/2016 (Tord House): Golden to amber. Almost no bubbles. Medium intense nose where I pick out little else than slightly overripe and hot fruit. Fully developed mouth with sweet notes, honey and hints of yeast. Medium-bodied and no length. Think this was a medium bottle.

Reasonably dark gold colour was a touch concerning but the wine was fresh from the outset. Relatively medium bodied with a really nice profile of toasty apple and bread/pastry with sweet caramel notes and a slight white chocolate hint on the finish. Over time small oxidative notes emerged (nougat and moderate bruised fruit) but in general the freshness was as it should have been (and little or no tertiary development really). Very good; I wonder only based on colour if there are even better bottles. ****(1/2)

Up there as one of my best champagne experiences ever.
Definitely a well kept bottle. Upon opening, except for fading ultra fine mousse the colour could almost be mistaken for a 90's not an 82. Intense nose of mushroom, toffee and buttery pastry. Palate echoed this, but somehow still exceptionally fresh and precise. Again this could easily be a bottle 10-15 years younger than it is. I see this going another decade or so.
As will all old champagne serve slightly warmer and you will be greatly rewarded

Birthday lunch at Les Amis. Yellow gold, mature in appearance but still vibrant, although the bubbles were tiny and disappeared rather quickly. Honey, caramel, truffle, button mushrooms with some pineapple and sweetened peaches. Very elegant on the palate, with a tiny bit of acidity remaining. Truffle, stone, mushroms, earth. Manuka honey, caramel, toffee, yellow fruits. This lasted very well in the glass and is in an absolute peak drinking window.

Opened with a small sigh - in the glass some fine mousse in this pale golden liquid that held up well over time. Certainly a very well kept bottle. Knock-out nose of ground coffee beans, mocca, caramel toffee - the nose perfection. On the palate it got better and better as the bottle warmed and it gained air, the last sip was the best (which is what I often find with the very best of aged Champagne). So don't serve too cold or open and let it breathe for a bit if you want to maximize the result. I am extremely pleased with the showing of this - DP does prove it gets better with age and has real aging potential. Great stuff!

For someone like myself who doesn’t care for older Champagne, I enjoyed it. Cork broke when popped, but safely extracted with no problem. Mid golden. Nice effervescence, more than I expected after all this time. Very slightly Maderized but still fresh with good body. Yeasty nose with nice acidity and a mid-long finish.

Dark gold. Fully mature and mellowed out with ripe butterscotch, caramel and hints of burnt sugar. Ripe, dense and warm. I would guess this was probably better from 750ml earlier in it's life but still such a pleasure to drink.

Was good but not great. For me, the loss in oomph in a champagne this old was not made up for with depth or unique flavor. I'd go with MV Krug any day over this (though it was cool to drink '82 Champagne as part of an '82 themed dinner party).

1982 Bordeaux First Growth (and Comparable) Dinner (Carlos - Highwood, IL): Very robust and powerful fruit aromas and flavors with good spice on the edges. While this is certainly showing age,the wine's development is consistent with what you should expect from a well stored 30-year old Champagne. While I prefer my Champagne younger vs. older, this wine was still easy to enjoy and appreciate.

The cork didn't even pop and had to be removed with a regular opener. Dark gold in color with a slow stream (I don't know if I would even characterize it as a stream) of tiny bubbles. Aromas of brioche, caramel, honey and flowers. Rich and round on the palate with caramel, rye bread and baked apple notes, but with very nice acidity to keep it elegantly balanced. Wonderful length -- quite a pleasure overall.

Wine Spectator Offline, San Diego (Grant Grill, U.S. Grant Hotel, San Diego): Clear light golden straw color. Scant ultra-fine bubbles, but more than the 1975. First whiff -- oops. Boiled eggs and cabbage. W+A urged us to put the wine aside and not despair. He explained that in France, producers will sometimes decant older Champagnes for several hours before tasting. An hour later, the off notes had vanished, and we were rewarded with a mesmerizing, subtle, complex bouquet of white chocolate and marzipan. On the palate, this was expansive, weightless, fresh and precise. One taster remarked, "She lifted her skirts for us." Voted best of three Champagnes tonight, and SECOND PLACE overall.

Dark gold, decent mousse. But seemed much older than an '82 with a bit of earth and sherry and lack of brightness and freshness for its age. With time, it turned to coffee with a bit of dark chocolate, which was an improvement. A disappointment overall.

This was really quite lively on opening.....lots of fizz left Upon further inspection, this was not a pristine bottle....there was a touch of oxidation giving it a somewhat sherried taste. As with most Dom's that I have had though, it really opens up in glass once you give it time to heat up a touch from the bucket.......this was really quite nice but not up to other bottles or vintages I have had. As you can tell.....a conflicting bottle of champagne

Alzero + misc (Terkels place): Beautiful nose packed with bread and loads of burnt butter. Also plenty of espresso and newly toasted coffee beans. The Evictor unwrapped this mag that he purchased on release. Another perfect example. Lighter and creamier than the Krug served before it. Mushrooms and a hint of coffee give complexity to the fruit. This mag still needs a little more bottle age before it will hit its peak. Excellent plus

Hugh's bottle, purchased on release and perfectly stored, of course. What a fantastic experience to taste a DP that is actually fully mature. Medium gold color with a modest but active mousse of pin point bubbles. Stunning nose of caramel, honey, freshly baked croissant. The palate does not disappoint the high expectations raised by the excitingly complex nose. It's rich and full bodied, quite a difference from the thin, tart and lemony flavor of young Dom, even from the best vintages. this bottle confirms my suspicion that DP is one of the slowest champagnes to come around - but it's clearly worth the wait.

Opened and served immediately. Cork was stuck in the bottle so the cap snapped off and the remainder had to be removed with a corkscrew. The wine inside was more than fine. Yellow to dark yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with ultra fine and light beading. Upon opening the aromas of roasted coffee and carmelized apples waifed up from the bottle follow by additional notes in the glass of toast. dough, yellow apples and pears. Not even a hint of sherry on this well aged champagne. Flavors of tangy yellow apples, pears and lemon with a fine mousse and a medium finish. Medium to bright acidity, full bodied. Held strong and consistent through the end of the dinner around the 3 hour mark. Maybe just a hair step behind the bottle in PA 2 years ago. Well done.

Domathon: The nose starts off shyly and a little bit flat, but given the chance to breath, it blossomed - with swirling aromas of honey, butterscotch, caramel, apricot and coffee. The palate also benefited from a chance to breath, taking on increased weight while maintaining a certain delicate charm the entire time. Great length and a creamy mouthfeel complete the package. Philly Pre-Game Champagne and Bordeaux Dinner (Marigold Restaurant, Philadelphia, PA): Medium gold colour. A little musty, with hints of wet stone. Very nutty on the palate, good texture, showing caramel and citrus notes. Moderate finish, ~30-40s. Nice initially, the wine really blossomed after about four hours air. Much more complex and powerful nose followed through to a focused palate. This is a really stellar Champagne, and based on how it evolved, can still spend more time in the cellar if desired.

This bottle was a gift to my non drinking parents 20 years ago and has been in their basement ever since. They gave it to me several years ago and it has stored well since then. I do not have much experience with aged champagne and was not expecting much considering the poor storage. But with the folks in town for a visit and a couple friend of ours (fellow wine geeks) came for dinner - time to pull the cork.
Foil was black inside and beginning to degrade. The cork did not exactly leap out of the bottle, only a slight fizz sounded when extracted. I was bracing for the worst - was this completely dead? Poured a glass- beautiful full color, almost amber but very clear. Still had plenty of bubbles, though they were not extremely active or long-lived. Plenty of mousse and toast. Beautiful balance and depth. This still had life left in it. Wonderful wine and a wonderful way to drink it. My Dad even had a glass. Everbody loved it - best champagne I've ever had. A++++

Fantastic, dark gold color with plenty of mousse for a 25+ year old champagne (5/5). The aromas explode out of the glass with tons of ground coffee, dark chocolate, marzipan, maple syrup, candied aoples and hints of yeast (20/20). Absolutely mind boggling with endless layers of different nuances, setting up an incredibly intense and complex aromatic profile. WOW! On the palate, liquid gold! Intense flavors of dark chocolate, maple syrup, red apples, coffee and marzipan intertwined in soft and delicate bubbles (of Voss character, the only thing keeping it from a perfect score as I would have preferred it less flat) (19/20). Nevertheless, the single best champagne moment of my life up to this point. Had this wine in Las Vegas at Picasso (Bellagio), served with incredible fois gras, serrano ham and orange infused apples. Once again, WOW!! 99 pts

Berlin offline. Rich golden colour, with an abscence of bubbles! It's delicious, but quite still, like an aged white wine, not a champagne. Perhaps more like a desser wine, as the acidity has also gone. It's richer than the '90, perhaps because of some oxidation. g

Medium full mousse of rather large but persistent bubbles. Gingery full nose. No real elegance. Medium body, good finish. Will improve. Very good but not great.

Freshest bottle of 82 I’ve have. Wow. Just bright fresh and bubbly with the roundness and softness of aged champagne. Just killer. Flavor profile of 96 with out edginess. And none of the brioche nuttiness!

Appearance
Bright orange amber
Small, fine bubbles
Aroma
White mushroom, slate, dry brush, fig, apricot, orange zest, cheese rind, Dried white flower, almond
Palate
Streak of high mouth-filling acidity, light in body
orange, briny, honey flavors predominate on the palate. fine fading mousse

The nose is honeyed, with cloves.

Somewhat disappointing, this '82 DP lacked drive and excitement, especially compared to the '82 Krug next to it.

This was perfectly stored and it was one of the best Dom's I've had in my life. Compares to the amazing '96, impeccable balance, not overly yeasty and great mouthfeel. What a treat!

This was really quite lively on opening.....lots of fizz left
Upon further inspection, this was not a pristine bottle....there was a touch of oxidation giving it a somewhat sherried taste. As with most Dom's that I have had though, it really opens up in glass once you give it time to heat up a touch from the bucket.......this was really quite nice but not up to other bottles or vintages I have had. As you can tell.....a conflicting bottle of champagne

Wonderful old champagne, even if it seemed even older than its 39 years. Still a few lazy streams of tiny bubbles, though I could not detect then on my tongue. Hugely impressive bouquet of walnuts, almonds and coffee. Full bodied for DP, filling, more food than drink. Very impressive and completely different from young DP.

Alzero + misc (Terkels place): Beautiful nose packed with bread and loads of burnt butter. Also plenty of espresso and newly toasted coffee beans.
A insanely nice palate with a lot of density of flavors. Butter and toasted bread with a little caramel in the aftertaste.
Mid-palate has a nice structure with red/brown apples.
Overall it is still juicy and well-rounded.
97-98p.

Brilliant stuff!

99 pts

Still firmly acidiic but with a rich, orange oil and caramelized sugar profile that keeps things quite balanced. Fills out wonderfully with air. Really good.

Rich golden colour, with an abscence of bubbles! It's delicious, but quite still, like an aged white wine, not a champagne. Perhaps more like a desser wine, as the acidity has also gone. It's richer than the '90, perhaps because of some oxidation. g
