Creamy, raisiny, sweet, lovely aromatics. I'm no port expert, just starting to explore, but this would be a lovely dessert wine with some creme brulee, soft blue cheese, or even just coffee.

Same as previous. Current bottle was half-full for over 6 months. Little to no noticeable change having tried it again over the past couple of days. (Rating suppressed—see other reviews; done to prevent my multiple notes on this bottle overly influencing reviews.)
Tastes sweeter than in 2022, not very Tawny like. Agree with toffee, fig, however exaggerated fig seed, cumin like notes mars the overall impression. Has its appeal prefer true Tawny.

A really excellent tawny, showing considerable improvement over the 10 yr. Nicely developed and mellow. Tried next to the 30 and the 50yr releases. This one compares very well to the 30 for much less

Rich and toffee like, chocolatey, mocha, figs. Some nice lift on the palate. Quite sweet still, though. Spicy and quite good freshness despite the alcohol and sugar.

Walkabout tasting, no detailed tasting notes. Taylor had a great display with plenty of explanation material and tasting opportunity. Nice aromatics with tobacco, nutty aromas, sweet spices. Generally I preferred the Tawny over the bottle aged version. The 20y was good (93) the 40y really a step up (95) and the 50y (95+) only marginally better than the 40y.

Typical Taylor’s tawny with fresh acidity. Nuts and raisins combined with a slight touch of dark caramel. The years in cask has started to make it rounder and nuttier. Good but not excellent.

From bottle at friends house, open for a couple of weeks. Rich and spicy, fig, dried citrus, crushed nuts, toffee, cherries and Xmas spices. Not as sweet as the Grahams or Fonseca. Almost no heat thanks to the extended time open. These middle age Tawnys always seem a good qpr imo.

Bottled 2021. Good acidity to counterbalance the sweetness. Chocolate, figs, walnuts. A little heat on the palate. Not the most complex tawny, but very good nonetheless.

Is Tawny Port out of favor or all Port? Not one tasting note for 2013 to 2020 bottlings? That's one way to suppress the price. To quote wine philosopher Roger Scruton a "damned good" wine. Correct sweetness, lovely polished honied apricot perchance? If I were to quibble between gulps, slightly varnishy, a wee bit of heat, tolerable on a cool 65 degree day in SWFL.

The sweetness and alcohol were not as integrated as some other 20 tawnies. It was, though, more consistent over the few days of consumption, and knew its character straight from the open. Excellent, but not the best 20.

Not happy. Smelled very well, but tasted sour. No typical Tawny-notes, that you expect from a 20yo. Sour dominated, almost citrus-fruits. Not well integrated. Checked the bottle, was bottled in 2012. Bought it from the same store that I had other too old Tawnies from. Will not buy any more Tawnies from this store ever again, but will give this one another try sometime in the future.
Surprisingly fruity and sweet (maple, toffee) for a 20 year old tawny, but very impeccably balanced with refreshing acidity and nutty, rancio tones. I think I prefer this over the Dow 20 year tawny (which I haven't had in a while come to think of it).

Fire going, cool evening. The Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Tawny is the definition of comfort wine. It’s a chocolate covered cherry dusted with crushed almonds in wine form.

2020 bottling; this was drinking so well; mahogany and burnt orange in color; aromas and flavors constantly shifting covering wide range of dried plums, cherries, cedar, tobacco leaf, vanilla, candied orange peel and more. Agreed amongst the four of us that this was the best TF 20-year that we've ever had

So, I don’t know enough about Port's to make an educated review, so instead, you get a story.
Brother and I were in Vegas about 6 years ago, waiting for the rest of the gang to arrive. Ended up at Aquaknox in the Venetian for dinner......was summer, place was empty, had the sommelier all to ourselves. He treated us well throughout dinner, so when it was dessert time and he told us to trust him, we agreed.
He came out with a cheese plate and multiple Port's. Bro and I glanced at each other because up to that moment, we’d never enjoyed a Port, much less paired with cheese by a pro. And cheese for dessert? C'mon!
Omg! Best dessert ever! I’m usually a crème brûlée guy and his offering was insanely better. Better than any dessert I’d ever had in the past.
So now I’m a loyal Port guy, even without a dessert to go with. This TF 20 is excellent, worthy of a good cheese plate. Do it.

One of my very favourites. Medium plus complexity and length, with good body. In my experience holds up very well when left open, even at modern room temperatures for months, with minimal noticeable change. (This review was drafted later, and serves to amalgamate others; only this review is scored, to prevent multiple notes on this bottle overly influencing reviews.)

Medium garnet colour. Medium nose with raisins, prune, orange marmalade, honey, walnut, caramel and eucalyptus. Pronounced taste of raisin, prune, orange marmalade, honey, walnut, caramel and eucalyptus. Long and sweet finish. Medium acidity. Full body. A very good 20 year Tawny. Goes well with caramel based desserts or cakes.

The 20 year stood out as the sweet spot in terms of QPR for tawnies on our trip to Portugal earlier this year. This bottle was purchased back in the States, and consumed over several weeks alongside a Carlvahas 20 year tawny. While the Carlvahas is nice, the Taylor is clearly the better wine, with much more refinement and finesse.

Restaurant BTG purchase showing more of a medium garnet color than a true tawny color which surprised me. Displayed a good balance of sweet cherry and very ripe plum fruits with some developing complexity of caramel, vanilla and nuts. Went well with the dessert. Nice finish.

Tasting at Taylor-Fladgate (Taylor-Fladgate, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal): This delightful 20-year is probably Taylor's sweet-spot when it comes QPR amongst its line-up of tawnies. Balanced, delicious and eminently drinkable, for a friendly price-tag - there's very little to dislike on this one. On tasting, it had a brighter nose than on the 10-year tawny, with notes of cedar wood drifting in and out of red fruit and sweet spice aromas, with a drizzle of treacle at the sides. It had a delicious palate - red fruits in the shape of dried cherries and maraschino, a nice dose of wood spice, a hint of herbs; it tasted almost like a really well-made Manhattan cocktail. Nice finish too, long and nicely balanced, with a touch of honey over some dark chocolate and spice flavours, all held in a light grip of fine tannins. Nice stuff.

More red color than you might expect. Old barrel, cinnamon spice, caramel, nutmeg and fig on the nose. Some bright cherry to offset that straight tawny caramel sweetness. This definitely shows more red fruited than I might expect for a Tawny. It works though. While it doesn't blow you away with complexity it does deliver a nice, consistently comforting warm profile. It's like comfort food or comfort dessert. Held up for like a month in the fridge.

Deep amber (less red than the 10 year) with aromas of molasses, dried cherry, raisin, and tobacco. It was incredibly smooth—especially compared to the 10 year—with raisins, dried cherry, and chocolate on the palate. This port had a very nice finish and paired well with a Hawaiian chocolate coconut cookie.

by the glass pour at restaurant with dessert. Bright red almost cranberry color, some legs. Nose lightly nutty stewed fruits. Palate viscous, good richness yet also bright fruity acidity. Nice depth with almost maple syrup complexity. Satisfying if not especially distinctive, nonetheless well crafted. 91 pts

The wine looks caramel colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like prune, fig, raisin, plum, black currant (cassis), clove and molasses. It tastes like raisin, prune, plum, vanilla molasses, honey and clove. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

This needed a little time to unwind but then became quite good. Toffee, almonds great mouthfeel and long finish. My wife absolutely loved it. Pretty nice tawny drinking very well. I usually like the tawny over the vintage and I think 20 year is really the sweet spot as far as price verses quality. Will buy again. 93-- 94

Enjoyed this as part of a 3 port tasting menu at Le Diplomate in Wash. DC. The others were a 1985 Dow vintage port and a 2000 Graham. This was excellent. Lighter and more red in color color, the port had a big nose and mouth coating flavors.

Hazy, some deposits, light amber. Penetrating, multilayered, sweet, buttery nose. Full body, syrupy texture, concentrated flavor, very hot mouthfeel, long aftertaste. As sweet as it gets but this wine can get away with it because it balances the sweetness with a rich gamma of flavors, high acidity, a spicy kick and an almost undetectable hint of bitterness in the background. Pure honey, chocolate candy, caramel, passion fruit, alcohol. Elegant, complex, absolutely delicious. Ferreira‘s Dona Antonia Personal Reserve despite being delicious also and sweeter is not as complex.

This was very good when first opened a week before thanksgiving. Then my wife's surgery put consuming this on hold. When I returned to the bottle last night, it had obviously oxidized - and not in a good way. Not the wines fault, but no rating because of the mistreatment.

Beautiful showing. True to Pzinn's TN last year. The ginger in particular is pronounced, and the mango is joined by dried apricots. The nuttiness is pure roasted hazelnut -- doesn't come off as stale or oxidized for a second. Terrific acidity, really balances the wine. Best tawny I've ever had.

A special bottling in 1991 for the London Branch of Banco Nacional Ultramarino SA. Drunk from D+2 This is a most fine glass of port - just enough of everything - enough goop, enough nuts, enough peel, enough heat - massively long finish - great wine.

Very tasty, smooth and yummy! But comparing to the 10year old not sure worth paying the extra money. You can taste the difference if you drink 10 and 20 years after each other, but I really cannot when I just drink one of them.

2017 Friends & Family; 9/20/2017-9/23/2017 (Portugal): Amber-orange in color. Notes of caramel, honey, and toasted almonds on the nose. Smooth, rich mouthfeel with notes of hazelnuts and caramel on the palate. The finish is marked by well-balanced tannins and acidity and seems to go on and on. This is one of the better bottles of this wine that I have tasted.

20% abv. Nice mid-amber color. Pecan or hazelnut on the nose. Pecan nuts, dried fruit and caramel toffee on the palate. My notes are similar to a previous tasting almost two years ago in which I mentioned that I like this Tawny because it does not come across as very sweet, and I prefer a drier style of Tawny Ports. This has most of what I would seek in an aged Tawny. It would be good with pecan pie, crème brulee, almond tart, etc. I need to restrict my intake of sweets so I sipped it on its own and one evening with a shortbread cookie. It was opened Jan. 2nd and consumed about 2-4 oz. per evening for about a week.

Surprisingly simple and short overall. Very clean, of course.
Beautiful, leggy chestnut appearance. This is why tawnies got their name: there is nothing purple about it.
The nose has hot, core port elements, and the cedar-y wood aroma borders on sawdust. There's a little spiciness to it — gunpowder, maybe.
On the palate, the wine is round, sweet, but not redolent of grapes.
And it ends sweetly, with no brandy sharpness that the nose might have implied. This is where you get the fruit — and it's more grape than anything else. The sweetness lingers, but the wood and the spiciness do not.

Overall very consistent with previous bottles & notes, just a really outstanding middle tier aged NV tawny port finished off last night with an equally good "My Father" cigar. A very good QPR wine at this price point. As noted above, overall drinking experience and tasting note very consistent with previous bottles - very deep purple almost inky black color, very well structured and balanced, smooth, very full bodied with a lovely lingering aftertaste. Nose rich and aromatic with raisins, mocha and plum, primary flavors included coffee, a hint of oak, raisins, earth and a hint of a spicy black pepper and lighter vanilla on the aftertaste. Highly recommend this port.

Pleasant enough but disappointing. High alcohol overpowers, and doesn't balance out considerable sweetness. Fine drinking but not quite up to 20-year snuff (or price tag). Even though I love Taylor vintage port, it seems like--right now--Graham is pulling off a better 20-year (for my taste, at least).

Bottled in 2014 consistently good and easy to find. translucent colour.
nose of red cherry and apricot preserves, burnt brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cool but chemical like alcohol.
palate is dense yet bright and polished for immediate drinking. cherry syrup, strawberry and fig jam, mint jelly, rye whiskey and pie crust.
despite the supposed durability, this tasted best the first few days it was open. the alcahol and oxidized notes came through more noticably after 5 days.

Fruit along the lines of strawberry and apricot jams with some spice and nutty toffee, hints of leather/tobacco, soft/smooth/sweet but well balanced by a nice dose of acidity which provides freshness and lift; not impressively complex/deep, but balanced, tasty, and satisfying.

My two previous reviews were for Porto bottled in 2014. This wine was bottled in 2015 and as expected maintains then house style with minor variations from the previous reviewed Porto. This bottle showed slightly more grip on the finish while keeping all the balance and fineness I have enjoyed with previous bottles. This really is a beautiful example of a fine Tawny Porto.

Essence of sweet Cognac accented by a layer of dried sweet figs, dates, tones of smoky nuts with raisiny fruits and a layer of carmelized nuts on the finish.
Mature but lively appearance, medium tawny with a bright red core; sweet, nutty and rich nose, deep, plums and figs, warm spices, slightly balsamic; the palate displays a lovely intensity, energy and tension, complete flavours, hint of VA; the finish convinces with notes of pain d'épices, cedary wood, red berries, and a hint of wood vanilla. At restaurant Vuur, Baarn, NL.

Strong chocolate covered cherries, walnuts, figs, hint of orange peel, and brandy. This is a good Tawny port, though I am finding I don't love tawny ports.
I’m discovering that a big glass (with room for your nose) helps with these wines and serve them slightly chilled. Great match with peach pie and pecan pie. Good match with a simple plate of dried fruits and cheeses. I find that the Tawny ports are otherwise a tough match with most deserts (and blue cheese as is commonly recommended).

Not going to spend a lot of time describing this - this is one of my go-to daily evening drinkers. Cost isn't significant and it provides a rewarding night cap. Not as smooth, deep, or complex as the 30 and 40, but the cost/benefit is probably better.

Included in a church fundraiser wine-tasting and finished at home over two weeks. Pretty but cloudy dark amber color, looks denser than the 10-year old Tawny from the same producer which had a shimmering lighter amber color. Nutty and wood-influenced aroma. Flavors of toffee caramel, dried fruits, and nuts. Not overly "hot" on palate or throat. I like this--it is not particularly sweet and I like Tawny Ports on the dryer side. It was a very nice match with almond cake and also with pecans and walnuts and dried fruits. I also like Tawny Ports with traditional crème brulee or pumpkin crème brulee or pecan pie and perhaps with flan/crème caramel (I haven't tried this pairing yet.) I liked it much better than the Taylor Fladgate 10-year Tawny Port

Got some nice Riedel Port wine glasses for Christmas so obviously had to try them out. Aromas of toffee, nuts, melted chocolate and a touch of dried plum. The Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Old Tawny Porto (NV or non-vintage) currently carries a rating of 91 points with the CellarTracker community. This review is for the 2012 bottling, although all bottling years from a given vendor are expected to deliver the same color and taste profile for a specific non-vintage port (in this case, a 20-year profile in the house style of Taylor Fladgate). This is a sweet, medium body port that exudes flavors of plum, raisin, and almond. It has light acidity, reserved tannins, and surprisingly no heat from the 20% alcohol. It is a smooth, easy drinking port...one that I generally keep on hand. I rate the Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Old Tawny Porto (NV) 89 points.
As a final comment, many CellarTracker reviewers are entering ratings and feedback for this port under specific vintage years. This is either due to the oversight that this port is indeed a non-vintage (i.e., no year is displayed on the front label) with a blend of grapes from multiple years, or it is an effort to capture any nuances between the bottlings from one year to the next (note that bottling years for ports are not necessarily vintages, whereby the latter indicates that all the grapes were harvested in the same year). In either case, all the feedback should be taken into consideration under one umbrella when researching this port. -------------------------
Rating Scale: Extraordinary (95-100 points); Outstanding (90-94); Very Good to Excellent (85-89); Good (80-84); Average (75-79); Below average (70-74); Avoid (50-69)
Note: Cost reflects base price only; it excludes any taxes and shipping.

Aromas of raisin, nut, fig and toffee. Get a slight whiff of heat on the nose. Big and mouth coating, this is deliciously sweet with big, mature flavors of chocolate, fig, cherry pie, and date. Colour tawny. No shit Sherlock!!! Sweet baked fruit, spice on the palate, delicious. Big fan of tawny port and this is a great example, the only debate is the cost over 10 year old, you're on a multiple of two on price for every 10 years with Tawny Port so is it worth twice as much?

Brownish red (tawny?) in color, this fortified wine showed almonds, caramel and raisins on the nose The mouth feel brought caramel, smooth tannins and no heat from the alcohol. The finish was longer in length with no heat but uneven tastes.
Purchased for $50US and drank over 4 days, this didn't improve over time. It's decent but not priced right for what it is currently offering.

Pop and pour. Very primary, with loads of dried fruits. Figs, prunes and raisins abound, but not much nutty or caramel notes, which would add complexity and interest. For the money, I would probably go for another choice (like the Ferreira 20).

I'm spoiled ..just tasted a 40 year old Fladgate Tawny and it was wonderful..this, compared to that felt young....and it is...tasty, good nose, but if I had another bottle, I'd put it away for 20 more years...it does have the tannins (guts) for the long haul.

Garnet-amber, orange at rim; fruit cake, cigars, figs, raisins, vanilla, caramel; dried cherry/pruney, apricot, nutty, medium-full body, excellent balance, good acidity, good heat, smooth tannins, lingering finish. Complex aromas of an old parlour with cigars, leather, wood... The 10 yr old is good but this is fantastic; amazing what 10 more yrs in barrel will do. I need a case!

Taylor’s Port (Stockholm): Light red colour, brick-coloured edge. Nose with dried red berries, hints of dried orange zest, slightly oxidised notes with a hint of mild dried spices, toffee and fudge, flowery and elegant. Sweet palate, powerful notes of dried red berries, dried zest, good acidity, good concentration of aromas. Quite long aftertaste with dried berries, good acidity and some spice. More oxidised notes than the 10 Year Old but also more elegance, and more intensity on the palate.

Served blind. The nose was almost like an aged vintage Port vs a Tawny with candy cherry like notes and some heat. Dark flavors. Comes off as balanced in feel but the flavors seem a bit split front to back. I did like this though and voted it as my #3 on the night.

Very consistent with previous notes, a really outstanding slightly above entry level (that would be the 10 year NV port) aged NV tawny port. I am just amazed at the consistency of this wine. For port lovers this is a good buy and a good QPR wine. Tasting notes very similar and consistent with previous bottles - very deep purple color, well structured and balanced, smooth, very full bodied with a lovely lingering aftertaste. Nose rich and aromatic with raisins, mocha and plum, primary flavors included coffee, a hint of oak, raisins, earth and a hint of a lighter vanilla tone on the aftertaste. Highly recommend this port.

Our second bottle in a month, and it was just as extraordinary as the first—luscious dried apricots, golden raisins, plums, and slightly burnt caramel.

Immensely rich and flavorful—we tasted dried apricots, raisins, figs, walnuts, and caramel—with such layers of complexity, nutty and herbal notes, liveliness, and balanced acidity that we were swooning. Need another one of these...

Orange peel, burnt sienna color; delicate nose, walnuts; good concentration in the mouth with lively high toned flavors; light in the mouth despite rich caramel flavors. Quite fantastic tawny.

Medium red with some brown. Lots of fig, plum and caramel in the nose. Delicious plummy flavours and a very structured long finish. Great QPR and my favorite of the Tawnys.

Autumn and cool nights finally, even in Texas. Time to open a bottle of our favorite Tawny Port. Consistent with last year's notes. Delicious and best served chilled and matched with crystallizing Reggiano Parmigiano.

Drank about half of this bottle over the course of a month WITHOUT vaccuum sealing and then forgot about it for over 7 years. Recently found it and sampled and it was still drinkable, but definitely NOT TF20 caliber. I would not advise treating this spectacular port in such an undignified manner.

Retailer tasting, quick notes. Tons of clove spice and nutty aromas on the nose. Some heat evident on the palate, nutty, oak, raisin, dark brown sugar, and rich dried fruits. Didn't seems as well integrated as the 10year NV, but was quite enjoyable.

i don't have enough experience with port of any kind to rate this, but i did love it. enjoyed this little by little over three weeks and it never lost its freshness. after the first few days, a bitter red fruit skin note mellowed out, and the nutty, caramel, burnt sugar and toffee aromas and flavors i love about tawny came through beautifully. this is the kind of stuff i could drink a whole bottle of, it's so good.

The bottle has improved with time. After the first glass I vacuum sealed it and put it back in the cellar. After 3-4 weeks I decided to have a glass, half expecting to dump the rest out, and was surprisingly much better than before. I have never keep a opened bottle of port so long and was surprised that it hadn't gone bad. It now is an average bottle of 20yr.

The latest batch of 20yr is a total disappointment. A wonderful nose of nut caramel and raisons. That is where the good stops. Extremely thin and muted flavors, made it halfway through the glass and dumped the rest. I would compare this to an average to poor 10 year tawny.

The first thing that came to mind as I brought this port to my nose was blueberry pancakes with maple syrup. Was a wonderful, comforting type of smell. Light red in colour, silk smooth with wonderful flavours of fig, blueberry/cherry pie, and nuts. Great finish.

Have enjoyed this over several days now. I have a little bit left for tonight. I kept saying to myself that there was a caramel taste but knew that wasn't it completely. Having just looked over the notes below I realize that what I was missing is that its slightly burnt caramel and or burnt sugar. Either way, it's the dominant flavor for me and I don't mind. It was a really nice Tawny. I've not had one in years but will add another bottle to my cellar. Enjoy!

Wines to Celebrate Dad's 53rd (Baltimore, Md): this port is always a treat. the nose is just beautiful, and the intensity of flavors and weight on the palate is great. so much figs! my dad liked this wine a lot, as did my mom. it's just a lovable bottle.

The 20 year old lost almost all of the fruit of the 10 year old. The color and flavor reminded me more of a sherry than a port. This was certainly good but I think there are better ones out there for the price.

Must agree that the most recent batch of Taylor 20-year tawny port is a relative disappointment. Overly sweet, and not as complex as earlier versions. So, there is some version variation after all.

Tasted at Taylor's cellars after lunch there. Very pleasant - clearly several notches up on the LBV with which we finished lunch - but by the same measure little of the complexity of the 40 year old tasted afterwards and alongside.

The flavor fills my nose and I can just about taste the port from the aroma alone. I take a sip and it makes my mouth smile. It begins with hints of dark cherry and finishes nicely with subtle notes of chocolate. We let it sit for about 20 minutes in "breathable" glasses and it was so incredibly smooth. This was a close to perfect that I've found among port. Definitely worth the $50 investment.

No numerical rating as we are just beginning to sample tawny port. Definitely lighter and smoother than our last, the 10 year Graham. This is a pale reddish brown reminicent of strawberry and rhubarb jam. It has a sweet dried raisin and plum taste. The caramel and nut element that was so prominent in the Graham is more in the background here. This is more aromatic and fruity. That tasted like dessert. This tastes more like wine. I don't know if the difference is house style or the added years on the Taylor. Sounds like more sampling is in order. My wife preferred the Graham 10 year. I haven't decided. They are both very good in their own way.

This is very nice. Shows a reddish-amber color in the glass. On the palate there's cinnamon, brown sugar, and pecan notes, finishes smooth with nice balance between acidity and alcohol.

Bought over a year ago. 1.5hr in large Burgundy glass @58F. Served chilled. COLOR- a darker tawny; something like orange cherry wood. NOSE- comes across about exactly like the "1986 Quinta do Noval Porto Colheita" I tried a year ago -- probably bottled around the same time too: light blueberry, almond paste (chewing the center-bite of an almond croissant), nutmeg, cookie dough, and a little resin. PALATE- really seamless and silk-like with the tingle of the alcohol and acid harassing my tongue-tip but leaving everything behind it at peace on a pillow of satin. Wide and expanding with sweet "nuttiness" but with a great focus down the center of tar, blueberry skins, baking spice and even Chinese plum sauce -- this really is a captivating tawny. I find it's best to sip this slow and let the liquid crawl along the palate, giving it time to do its work. Long in the finish, I'm breathing out fig-chutney for a good minute starting about 20s after swallow. Easy to recognize this as one of the finer(est) 20-year tawny offerings around. 91-92 pts., and I'm sure it will improve over the coming weeks, so I'm landing on the high side. Oh, and really some kind of crazy-good pairing with my Sally Jackson Goat cheese.

Lighter in style and body than other aged tawny's but drinks easy and is velvety smooth. Nose and palate full of nutty and rich toffee notes backed with flavors of orange peel, dried apricot, and caramel. Let it sit for a few minutes and the wine develops a "pecan pie with raisin caramel sauce" nose in the glass. Great finish. More body (for a port) will bump this into the solid "A" range.
Was given as a wedding gift so I can only give a Style & Quality Rating.

Nutty and caramel smells on the nose. Sweet caramel and nutty with a delicous long finish and a good mouth feel. Ate a very aged Brie with this one and it was a great combination. This is just good you really can not go wrong with this 20 year old tawny.

Bottled in 2007. I feel like I've found a pirate's bounty in this 20 Year Old Tawny, as I got it for just over $20, well below the average price. The color was a bronze beauty with a golden rim on the edge. Popped and poured and allowed this to sit in a Riedel port glass for only about 30 minutes prior to tasting. Very concentrated caramel flavor with lightly roasted pecans. The nose threw a faint hint of ginger and baked apple with brown sugar/caramel sauce. The alcohol was not at all overwhelming and this port has a wonderful lingering smooth nutty flavor. This is a fantastic bottle and I'll be anxious to see what the next 1-3 weeks bring from it....unless I drink it all before then!

Bottled in 2008. I can echo the words of a few other CTers when I say that this is probably one of the best 20 year tawny ports you can buy and certainly the best 20 yr in the value for dollar category. Dark amber color and ultra smooth with nice caramel nuttiness and an excellent lingering finish. This bottle was opened and consumed over about a 2 and a half week period and showed no degradation during that time.

Virtual Community Tasting Event (VCTE) III; 12/30/2008-2/20/2009: Update - 1/7/9 - COLOR: Deep, dark copper - like a very dark maple syrup but with a hint of red. NOSE: Toffee, figs, caramel, nuts...very complex and very strong. TASTE: Figs, raisins. Very smooth and very rich. It did not hold up too well on it's own - the sweetness is a bit overpowering - but matched with a chocolate brownie it was fantastic. Long, nutty finish - lasted until my next bite of brownie (and I was not in a hurry to get there) OVERALL: Terrific port. I highly recommend it, but make sure you have a hearty dessert - or a cigar, based on some of the notes below. (4+13+16+8)

Taylor Fladgate continues to make top notch ports all the way from the elegant and massively structured vintage ports to ruby ports. The 20 year tawny is no exception. Well structured tones of chocolate and pencil with mounds of sweet dried dark fruit keep you coming back for more. The finish is long and at around $40 a bottle one can have a truly terrific port without breaking the bank. If you are just getting into ports and want to taste a perfect example of how terrific these wines can be without breaking the bank with a 20 year vintage port I highly recommend starting with the 20 year tawny from Taylor Fladgate, you will be hooked.

A good and complex port wine. Nuts, raisins, oak. Really good. Do not keep the bottle open too long. The 2nd day it was already less complex. The days after, decline in complexity went really fast, although it was still enjoyable.

I actually first opened this bottle about 3 weeks ago with my wife, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law sitting in the spa with some nice Macanudo cigars. Not a bad night. While I have been a big fan of Tawny Port for sometime now, I haven't had a really good one for awhile. This was bottled in 2007. It is so incredibly silk smooth and rich. While the alcohol is present of course (20%), it really just kind of warmed you from the inside out, rather than heating up overwhelmingly on the tongue. The nose and palate are bursting with sweet raisins, cinnamon, caramel, smoke, and brandy (but again, just that wonderful flavor, not the alcohol). This went phenomenal with the soft tobacco in the cigars.
There were a couple of small glasses left, and so I decided to kill it off last night. The time being open has really enhanced all the flavors. As rich and layered as I felt it was then, it seemed more so now. I decided that this is the bottle of port I need to keep around for those "cold" Southern California winters. At around $40 its QPR is quite high. If I ever found an unfortified wine that had this much depth of flavor at $40 I would definitely buy more, so there's no reason why I wouldn't here.
This is a very good tawny, but it isn't quite as sweet as other (and younger) tawny ports I've had. The caramel character isn't as developed as I would like.

A classic tawny port. Nose of caramel, almonds, and a hint of fig. A very lush port that beautifuly blends the flavors of nut, caramel, sweet figs and spice. The bottle improvedd through the week, the last glass seemed to be the best and it saddened me to see the empty bottle.

With port I always get past the sugar and judge the flavors underneath. The fig flavors and secondary almond flavors were fantastic for an after dinner drink. Paired next to a 1977 Dows it had more complexity and a much more interesting finish.

Simply a great tawny port and at this price range a great QPR. Enjoyed after several dinners with friends and cigars - this pairs exceptionally well with high end mature aged cigars. Dark rich plum color with very smooth mouth feel and well integrated flavors of toffee, plum, raisins, caramel, complex sugars, oak, dark chocolate and terroir with a hint of vanilla and long smooth aftertaste. Highly recommend for lovers of tawny port.

bottled 2007. gorgeous reddish, orange color. the nose is just like caramel-covered apricots with a bit of orange peel. this is lush on the palate and heat isn't an issue. flavors of sweet dates, figs and spices on the midpalate transition to vanilla, toast and soft wood notes on the finish. the 20 years has added that toasty, warm finish but the fruit and spice flavors are still so sweet and refreshing. the finish is so long and lovely, this port just kisses you. my wife loved it even more than i did.

Cold night in New England, and I needed something to warm my bones. Typically brick in color, aromas of roasted almonds, strawberries, cherry compote and caremels. Balanced, not too sweet and long on the finish, this is the ever-reliable Taylor 20 year old Tawny. Good stuff.

The colour is what you should see in the most perfectly done creme brule. The aroma reminiscent of frozen taffy on snow in March. And the taste is so sweet & smooth; like caramel, freshly roasted pecans & just the right amount of fruit & spice. We started the bottle off wtih Stilton, Oka, Chaume & Roue cheese and ended with some exquisite Belgium dark chocolate. Just add a roaring fire to this equation and you are in heaven. For a tawny; it doesn't get much better than this.

This is the old stand by for me and was probably the first 20 year Tawny I tasted back when I was first getting interested in Port. I have had it a dozen or more times since then and it is always consistent and good. Perhaps not the best 20 year Tawny but it always brings pleasure.
It's been over a year since my last taste of this so I was looking forward to opening this bottle.
Bottled 2007. The color has a surprising reddish tint to it. It is a medium tawny color with a light ruby component to it. The nose has dried cherries, wood, walnuts, dates, and a little cinnamon. The palate is sweet and smooth with good balance except the aguardente has a harsh quality to it. The finish has good length with more dried fruits, nuts, and some caramel. 50 + 4 + 13 + 16 + 7

Deep reddish brown, almost mahogany in color; liquid is transparent and not syrupy or thick. This aged tawny is very interesting on the nose, with an almost chalky chocolate-mocha at first, that then opens up to muted cherries and cinnamon, with hints of oak. On the palette this is an elegant port, with well-integrated alcohol and balanced fruits of apricots, vanilla, and orange peel. The finish is not terribly long, but there's a nice bit of heat at the end. Though not my favorite in terms of "complexity" this is one I will continue to buy for Taylor's refined and sophisticated style. 90-91.

At a restaurant, served from the bar in a brandy snifter. Would have liked it a bit cooler - cellar temperature. Color was dark golden brown, about the same as a very dark single malt. My initial impression was caramel on the nose with a bit of excess alcohol heat and some nuts in the background. I was not thrilled with the nose because I thought the alcohol was way too strong. However, the palate did not disappoint. In order of prominence, there were roasted cashews. roasted pecans, sweet caramel and acidity. The alcohol was still there on the palate and was the only negative. I asked the waitress if she knew when the bottle had been opened. She had no idea but said the bottle was almost full. I suspect that it had been opened and immediately recorked, and it needed some air that it didn't get, hence the strong alcohol aroma. After a while, it blew off and the taste got even better. The finish was longer than average, but not quite what I often get with really high end intense desert wines. I have not had a lot of tawnies for comparison purposes, but this was very very nice.

Surprisingly fruity and sweet (maple, toffee) for a 20 year old tawny, but very impeccably balanced with refreshing acidity and nutty, rancio tones. I think I prefer this over the Dow 20 year tawny (which I haven't had in a while come to think of it).

Smooth, with spice, acid, dried fruit, brown sugar; and a subtle dried fruit flavor.
Very well liked by the group -- this was a close 2nd to the vintage.

The finish on this soars on for at least 40 seconds leaving a lingering sweetness in your mouth. Very impressive tawny.

When I visited Taylor Fladgate in Villa Nova De Gaia in 2005, the 20 year tawny was rocking. This bottle was not rocking, but it was acceptable.
