95 Burgundy (La Trompette, London): Deeper colour again, quite dense. Spicy and dark-fruited on the nose. Good acidity. Dense and quite plush fruit. Still some dry tannin on the finish. Quite long. ***(*) ?91

When opened this seemed cranky, midbodied, dominated by unripe tannins. Mark thought it got better, and indeed it improved, but never seemed that giving to me. But by the end a B

Medium garnet. Correct smoky, forest-floor Gevrey aromas with more bright fruit than I've come to expect from 95s these days. Still a bit stern in the mouth -- not a charm school grad, but no lack of flavor authority either. Expanded and became a little sweeter with aeration, and at its best with food to buffer the considerable structure. If you have any of these in your cellar, I'd wait another three to five years.

Tawny and rather mature looking. Strict blackberry, menthol, and earth. Uncompromising, lean, tight, youthful palate. Both very Gevrey and very 1995-drink this only if you are a fan of highly structured, almost Claret-like Burgundy. Old school. It will be interesting to see what happens with this wine over the next 5 years, but I am not optimistic.
