89 & 91 side-by-side (a 90 was sadly corked). I preferred the 89 by a bit as it was more aromatically intense/complex and had lots of layers and nuances on the palate, relative to the more fruited but less complex 1991. Both great wines and both seemingly with a long way to go.

Ruby color, with earthy notes in the bouquet. Ripe dark fruit, wonderful complexity, a velvety texture and sufficient remaining structure. A stellar mature burgundy.

A (Burgundy Grand Cru) Birthday Celebration (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Served blind in a (mostly) vertical, in which this was a ringer. Clearly a ripe vintage wine, this is complex, layered, and fully mature with engaging depth. Still a bit tannic (it's an old Faiveley!), but that is barely obtrusive. My favorite of the flight.

Jim's Retirement Party (Libertyville, IL): From magnum. Ripe and rich but fully mature. Lots here with layered meat and spice and mushroom unfolding over the few sips I tasted (twice). There seemed to be a bit more earth and dirt than ideal, and maybe a very faint whiff of VA, but that was not too pronounced.

Jim's Retirement Party (Libertyville, IL): From magnum. I had high expectations of this, but I think this bottle came across a little dirtier than I personally like. Relatively tannic with a coarse texture, this has a distinct dried red fruit character on the palate.
