River School Auction Tasting (Washington DC): Old California doesn't get like this. Almost every experienced wine taster's WOTN in a crowded field. This was perfect in texture, First Growth Bordelaise in poise and length. Soft and resolved red fruits, leather and tobacco, a touch of green pepper and just an etheral note to it.

Nose: Direct and striking from first nose. Gorgeous blackberry, cassis, and bell pepper / green peppercorn notes plus a bit of eucalyptus and spice. This delivers quite a nice perfume and builds in sandalwood, anise and camphor.
Palate: Such an elegant weight to this wine, spherical quality on the palate. Loads of cherry, blackberry, cassis, eucalyptus and a red soil and iron element. The classic Mayacamas spice and dark fruit meld around a nicely measured level of oak.
Finish: Still quite lengthy. Has a nice dark fruit and leather/wood notes with a bit of rustic herbal notes.

What a great drink. The nose is full of black cherry, blackcurrant, and blueberry, alongside eucalyptus, shishito, and sandalwood. The green notes here don’t seem to originate from underripeness (given the quality of the fruit) but rather Mayacamas trademark spiciness. This is very pleasantly textured on the palate and the glass is emptied with alarming speed.

Excellent. Bright and youthful, good dark color. Bordelaise notes of tobacco and cassis. Really lovely and a testament to how Napa can age gracefully.
