  • Still needs a lot of air, but it’s starting to come around.

Edit: Much nicer on Day 2

  • Really big but very young cab. Raspberry nose; big and juicy on the tongue with tons of berry fruit. Big tannins as well. A bit jumbled up right now, being so young, but I would imagine this will age well for many years. Exactly what you’d expect from a Napa cab.

  • From memory: On the nose, green pepper, dark red berry, dry spicy oak, chocolate. On the palate a nice concentration of dark plums, strong tannins and acids, bitter chocolate at the back. Long finish.

  • Decanted for 4.5 hours before drinking over the next 2-3.

Confused with this wine - not at al what I associate with Mayacamas (which tends to have such booming Cabs.)

Body was medium or even medium-light, smooth in a way I wouldn't associate with a wine this young. Acid and tannins were shockingly well integrated. Good balance of purple fruit and spice/tobacco, with pleasant minerality on the finish. Finish was pretty brief.

High quality wine (perhaps moreso than even the fantastic recent Mayacamas releases), very smooth, but it was missing the "wow" factor for me - just kind of muted. Could've been the specific bottle (or maybe still in bottle shock?)

  • Dark ruby. Pronounced aromas of blackberry, black cherries, pencil lead, a hint of lilac, a touch of burnt oak. Very satisfying weight of dark savory fruit on the palate in a sweet acid frame, full bodied, gritty tannins, aromatic back notes, all elements entwined into the long tannic fruit-driven finish. 14% alcohol.
