  • Very pretty, but still deep red fruit. Big fruit. Napa depth. Acidity. Moderate finish. Dark berry flavors.

  • Gorgeous, full nose of plum fruit, cedar, cigar leaf and fruit-spice. The palate is generous with medium-to-full body. Concentrated, fresh plum fruit with typical Cali Cab accents. Super-classic Cali Cab that is still quite young.

  • Dinner at Booth One (Chicago, IL): This is a proper Napa cabernet, sitting right in the prime of its drinking window. The fruit here is Napa style, with its ripeness, but there is also a really good bit of dustiness here as well. Truthfully, this almost seems young, as there are barely secondary characteristics here. The acidity is there, and even though the fruit shows really ripe here, this doesn't feel over the top at all. This is what I want when I open a bottle of Napa cabernet.

  • Paid $25 for it from a local liquor store that had had it forever. What a roll of the dice! You can see the cork and beautiful color of the wine from my photo I posted. It was a mellow and musty sensation!

  • A beautiful Mayacamas, and totally ready to drink -- no need to wait any longer on it, unless you want to. The tannin is almost completely melted away and you don't notice it until you feel the softest gossamer touch on the back end. You could sum up the taste in two words: Iron and Wine (with apologies to the great Sam Beam) -- the iron minerality is at least as powerful and forceful as the vinous element, which is in that delicious dry-aged, tertiary, post-fruit stage. But the wine is at least as impressive for its elegance as it is for its flavor as it's totally seamless and suave with the gentlest touch, while still having ample flesh and density.
