  • Dark ruby color. Somewhat smoky initially. Impressive blend of fresh dark, red fruit and tertiary aromas on the nose. Earthy and mineral.
Full body, tons of fruits, tart, solid landing of acidity that pushes it into a dark, spiraling aftertaste of dark cherries and some licorice. Long. This is pretty impressive for a 96!

  • Superb owl Sunday (Chicago, IL): They certainly don't make 'em like this anymore. A very cool 12.5% abv here gives you a wine that is strongly dominated by pyrazines and acid -- somewhat reminiscent, perhaps of Bordeaux from 50 years ago, but with way better (and cleaner) winemaking. Admittedly a little thin for my palate nowadays, but undeniably an excellent Napa cabernet that far surpasses most of the heat-inflected monsters that crawl out of the valley nowadays.

  • WIML92

    Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose starts with a hint of smoke followed by aromas of thatch, black berries and dark plums. Flavors of black cherries and black berries framed over an earthy finish. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.

  • Beautiful wine. Big aromas of balsamic, dried fruit, fresh fruit, herbaceous notes. Has another 20 years to go at least. Wine of the show where there were several hundred wines available.

  • Half bottle, cork fell apart opening... Dark and brooding. Smells like an old world Syrah with black currant reduction, beef jus, some woodsy notes. Very vinous and good depth, perhaps from old vines. Quite enjoyable with a restrained profile, but showed borderline stewed and lacked much complexity. Ready to go but no rush. Nice overall.
