Farbe sehr helles Ziegelrot. In der Nase relativ intensiv würzig, (noch) nicht oxidativ , Bordeaux-typisch. Im Mund cremig, rund, etwas runde Tannine. Überraschend frisch! Nicht dekantieren!!!

Aged Bordeaux Gems (with Unico/Heitz MV in the mix): Magnum. Top shoulder level. The nose here was quite weak with a lot of cellar stink which didn’t go away. It was better on the palate: sexy, ripe and sensual mirroring the hot vintage. But it of course didn’t have the precision and cleanliness of a great wine.
TN: Dumb, cellar stench on the nose. On the palate creamy, round and sexy with fine sweet red fruit going from fresh berries to very ripe liquor berries. Not overly complex and precise and not pure with some unwanted notes interfering. Very fine, harmonious structure with fine tannins and good acidity and tension.
Decanting: Double decanted only. I’m not sure if a prolonged decant would have been enough to get rid of the cellar stink on the nose.

Magnum rarities tasting (Near Basel): This was part of a rarity old wine tasting hosted by a merchant and collector. All (almost) bottles were from magnum and double-decanted. The line-ups was dominated by aged Bordeaux, but also included two vintages of Unico and one from Martha's Vineyard. The undisputed winners were Pichon Lalande 82 and Lynch Bages 82. The most memorable, however, was the Pontet Canet 29 and St Croix Dumonts 21. The Unico (60, 65) were underwhelming as was – once again for me – Mouton 82.
Tasting note: Double-decanted, from magnum. Dark fruit profile, initially lots of musty cellar notes but improving by the minute in the glass adding fresh herbal complexity, leather and barnyard but in good balance with the fruit. Fairly round palate, harmonious, although not (or no longer) layered in terms of aromatics.

Richter Raritäten Vol.VII (Magnums only) (Farnsburg): Slightly opaque, brick color. Some horse sweat, plums, dried herbs, sour cherries. Pretty intense acidity, even with an hour of air it doesn’t balance out. Still absolutely drinkable though

Richter magnum tasting, all wines out of Magnum: Tobacco, chocolate, brett, dried herbs, metallic, slender and a bit too dominant acidity. Not a clean bottle in my opinion
