Deep ruby/garnet, pale narrow rim. This has an immediately appealing nose with dark fruit, meaty notes, plenty of gravel, cedar too. Medium bodied, blackcurrant and cedar, meaty notes again, some redder toned fruit coming through, spice, fresh acidity, lightly savoury on the good length finish. Excellent, no need to hurry here.

1989 Bordeaux Horizontal - London (Piccolino, Exchange Square): Bright red fruits here on the nose, some hints of lingonberry and a little mintiness. Palate is long and spicy with the tannins nicely melted away. With air it rounds out nicely. Good stuff

Aged Bordeaux Lunch at SSG. My contribution. High ullage. Drank in Grassl 1855. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of tobacco, spice, grilled bell pepper, black fruits. Developing. On the palate, dry, lovely high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), integrating high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tobacco, grilled bell pepper, spice, blackcurrant, black plums. Long structured finish. Very good quality. Good provenance and could pass off for something quite a few years younger. Structured dark Pauillac.

Enjoyable in a rather leathery style. Maybe a little hard. Not the most complex, but impressive for all those years.
