Deep pink. Off dry. Med (+) acid. Med tannin. Low alcohol. Med body. Medium aroma characteristics of strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, cranberry. Creamy mouse.

brvino Wine Tasting #4 - Sparkling Wines (brvino Undergraduate Wine Club at UCLA): Completely clear with deep neon pink colour. Tiny champagne-like bubbles. I get very bright red or sour cherry on the nose. It almost smells like Belgian cherry beer. Maybe there is a little bit of overripe strawberry, too. On the palate, yeastiness shows much stronger. There is sweetness that is balanced by medium acidity, but the tension could be better, if the wine was more acidic. I get much more of the super ripe, even bruised strawberry, some raspberry and red cherry. A little bit of lemon zest. Decently long finish. This is definitely fun and worth a try but it’s not ground breaking, unfortunately. 8/18

Interesting pink/ light orange pigment - nose of bright fresh sweet aromatic strawberries on a yeasty bed - palate lively and crisp with surprisingly rich concentration of flavor - balanced with clean finish - bravo - picked up in shop for 28usd - seems like a real deal - I’ve certainly paid more for far less complete wines.

Bastille Days - Tours de France; 7/14/2023-7/16/2023: dark pink with medium and persistent bubbles. fruity nose of red berries with some sweet floral and woody whiffs. remarkably juicy and refreshing in the mouth, with strawberry and raspberry dominating the palate. some notes of pomegranate and rhubarb appear, softening the sensation of sweetness and leading to a reasonably long finish with pithy minerality. very, very enjoyable!
"demi-sec" levels of sweetness but good balancing acidity and minerality. makes for a good aperitif or companion to somewhat spicy Asian fare.
8% AbV; ~80-90% Gamay and the rest Poulsard; "méthode ancestrale" with secondary fermentation in bottle (when wine has ~60g/L RS); ~40g/L RS at cork bottling.

Anniversary Dinner at Demi (Demi, Mpls): Bright strawberry red color. Drank a glass over 20 minutes from the reserve wine pairing at Demi. Well, this looks to be a trend, as this has shown up multple times at the end of the tasting menu. Raspberry nose; strawberry/reaspberry palate, a bit of a rhubarb top note, fine bubbles, slightly sweet. It does go well with the strawberry dessert. Very consistent notes over the years.

Scent of limestone and strawberries. Tastes exactly like raspberry, which is pleasant with the gentle bubbles and yeasty finish. Interesting but not super complex. Apparently this style of sparkling predates Champagne. Great palette opener and refreshing summer drink

Bright pink, with fine beads. Aromas of red cherry, almond, and slight yeast. Off dry, with bright acids and fairly creamy mousse, and ripe red cherry flavours, bit of mint, almond, and slight bread yeast. Not too complex, but pleasurable

We opened this on a late-afternoon patio and the lively bubbles rising up through the vivid pink wine was quite pretty. Strawberry/raspberry flavours, sweetish and rather like a fruity soda but in a very good way. Easy to drink, low alcohol, and very pleasing.

Nice pet nat sparkler for after dinner, perhaps with dessert. A deep rose color with plenty of frothy bubbles. Yeast and melon on the nose. Strawberry and cherries on the palate with a hint of sweetness. Acid is present but not prominent with a touch of tannin. Balance favors the fruit, but the wine is not out of balance. Pairs well with red and stone fruit desserts (e.g., pies, cobblers), and can hold its own with ice cream and chocolate. Good value. Alcohol 8%.

This is a light, fizzy wine that tastes like sweet rosewater and raspberries. I'm sure this would be perfect in some sunny poolside setting. But it's not my cup of tea.

Served as a refresher/transition after some rose + riesling while sitting in the shade by a pond. Low alch, not too too sweet even for a glass and a half. Basically a spiked juicy berry cola.

Dark ruby rose with light effervescence. Nose creamy, red fruits, some brioche. Palate off dry, red fruits, fruity. A mineral spine. Very satisfying, and a great Thanksgiving wine to go with rich Brazilian meats. 90 pts, purely for pleasure.

Sometimes a wine should be just like this. Simple, low alcohol, pomegranate and raspberry, fruity sweetness balanced by acidity. What is not to like? Not a serious wine but seriousness can be overated. I’ll have a little more!

I dropped this from the previous day’s Jura tasting because there wasn’t a good place to fit it in the lineup, but I opened a bottle for myself the following day with a box of fried chicken.
Sweet, fruity bubbles. This should be brunch wine. Not really enough acid to work the way I wanted with the fried chicken skin, but still not a bad pairing. The RS played well against the spices, and might even work better against an Indian curry or Szechuan hot pot.
Lots of strawberry, red current, and citrus peel flavors, and the low ABV makes it almost mistakable for canned soda.
Kind of weird, but fun. Likely to throw a lot of people, but it has a place.

Anniversary Dinner at Demi (Demi, Mpls): Bright strawberry red color. Wine pairing at Demi. Drank a glass over 20 minutes. Bright raspberry and strawberry nose, modestly sweet, the palate is bright red berries, grapefruit, citrus zest, very refreshing and went very well with a predominantly strawberry dessert. I did not recall having this seven years ago, but I enjoyed it then too. Fairly consistent note. 88+ to 89pts.

Love a red sparkler for holiday parties, and this one was perfect. Just sweet enough to be fun without being cloying, and some nice yeasty notes backing the fruit.

Pnp. Pours a beautiful berry red in the glass. Nose and palate show an intense core of red and black bitter cherries and their almondy pits, bitter medicinal herbs, and cold stoney minerals. Midpalate is rich and fruity with a pleasant sweetness that is not cloying or overbearing. Great acidity comes through at the end to clean this up and keep it fresh on the medium and very pleasurable finish.

Light orange-red in color with plentiful bubbles, this wine is not very complex and a bit on the sweet side. There are notes of raspberry and cherry on both the nose and palate with a good dose of acid, but few tannins. With alcohol at 8%, and a pleasant bubbly flavor, this wine is a great hot afternoon, early evening wine. Or even better, after dinner as a pairing with fruit tart, especially black fruit, like marionberry pie.

I love this sparkler so much. It hits the sweet spot between tart and not too sweet and is an excellent party or patio wine. I love the interplay between tart and bubbles. I wish I could get my hands on more of it!

Pnp. Pours a gorgeous day-bright berry red in the glass. Fine tiny bubbles and almost no mousse to speak of. Nose and palate show a bitter and intensely cherry core, tart blackberries, and a touch of medicinal herbs and liquid granite. Midpalate is rich yet light on its feet with good acidity that cleans the palate's sweetness away. Finish isn't cloying at all and shows a bitter cherry pit note that is pleasantly appetizing. Nice for what it is.

Crowd pleaser at a party of non-wine drinkers, but my wife and I disliked it. Those who loved it described it best, "It's like fizzy fruit punch". To be fair, it IS a well-made version of that sort of wine, so if you want a refreshing bubbly at 8% alcohol with some nice clean berry fruit to it, and some residual sugar then you'd like this. I certainly thought it better than many lambrusco's I've been offered. Ideal for a summer party, or anything where you want it to be refreshing and easy-drinking.

80% Gamay 20% Poulsard from 5.66 ha of limestone slopes above the Ain River farmed by Patrick and Catherine Bottex since 1991. Sparkling wine by a méthode ancestrale: 1st fermentation in cuve; 2nd in bottle WITHOUT dosage. 8% Abv. 4000 cases.
A(ccuracy)=2: Bright cherry pink. Fresh red berries fragrance; fine mousse. B(alance)=2: Fruit forward. Vibrant acid structure. C(omplexity)=1: Simple yet pure. Juicy sweetness. D(epth)=1: Invigorating with no tartness.
Wine Tally Score [2,2,1,1] = 6/10
Though not a high scorer "de rigueur", it is delightfully refreshing and attesting to the winemakers' devotion and commitment to tradition and culture!
Pleasantly surprised with this one. It was a great pairing with fruit (ripe blackberries and a red berry that I'd never heard of). Part of the tasting menu wines at Actinolite in Toronto. This is light and sweet and just right for a hot summer day on a patio or with berries. Went down very easily (was meant to go over two courses and in fact just made it for one).

Dinner at Grace (Grace, Chicago): Bright cerise color. Full, large-bubbled mousse. Fun and fruity nose with a pronounced yeasty note, presumably a by-product of the in-bottle fermentation. The palate had red berry flavors balanced with some earthy and spicy nuances. This had vigorous but fine effervescence and moderate acidity on the finish. An interesting pairing with miyazaki beed, grains, hon shimeji, and kaffir lime.

Monthly Tasting at: The score one this wine does not really matter, the style is so different that all that really matters is is it really good and it is. Low alcohol, juicy, and sparkling. It can start a warm summer evening or a Mothers day brunch.. I buy to have in my cellar for the right time.

Same as my notes from 12/17/16. Overly frothy and dry. Same bitter strawberry, off-finish. Kinda like a tub of strawberry ice cream that has been sitting open in the cardboard container and gone stale. It was still drinkable, but nothing that was really that pleasurable.
A 2014 Cascina Ca'Rossa Langhe Brachetto Birbét served alongside it was MUCH more interesting and flavorful.

This was part of a 4 wine side-by-side taste-off with other Brachetto and bubbly "purple drinks." This wine was the driest of the four wines, with an extra brut quality that drew the sweetness away from the finish. It was a bit of an outlier for that reason, as the others had some more attractive residual sugar to pair with the desserts served with the wine. This was the least favorite of the group. Drank more like a brut rose; a bit of a bitter strawberry off-finish. 86-87 points.

The wine is beautiful rose color with appealing wild strawberry, black cherry, nuanced floral and wet stone aromas. On the palate, it's off-dry with a frothy, delicate creamy mouse and tangy acidity, with wild strawberry, black cherry and a hint of citrus flavors complicated by an enticing minerality and a very giving finish. 8% abv

Lovely pinksalmon color. Great nose of strawberries and red fruit. More gas than I exoected. Small bubbles. Tannins and acidity help offset the redidual sugar giving it nice balance snd appesl. Only 8 % alcohol. Very pleasant.

On the nose, a beautiful floral aroma with strawberries. On the palate, strawberry, candided cherries, and a mid-palate note I’m trying to put my finger on… maybe like dark chocolate. Gives it a creamy edge to it that is just delicious. It gets better as it warms up. This is almost sweet enough to be sweet but not quite. Perilously easy to drink at 8%. Tried a couple of different pairings: a homemade chocolate/peanut bark and deep fried arepas. Both work very well but for entirely different reasons. I suspect this would be killer with chocolate cake much like Brachetto. Killer at $15. Would be a hit at parties.
I can only imagine deriving pleasure from this wine outdoors on a hot summer day. At a BBQ perhaps, when I'm drunk already. I'm certainly not going to get drunk off this wine at 8% alcohol.
It tastes like a blend of pomegranate, strawberry, and grape juice. With bubbles. It makes sangria taste profound.
A Jura Wine Tasting (Jeff K's): Pale cherry in color. The nose is candied cherries. On the palate, this is sweet with red berries. A fair amount of medium to large sized bubbles. This might have been served to warm given the sweetness. I think a couple of ice cubes on a hot summer day, this would make a refreshing drink with a sprig of mint. Some liked it more than I. The sweetness to me was a bit cloying.
We had our first Bugey-Cerdon at Blackbird restaurant in Chicago in front of dessert. WOW! So, we bought a bunch of the rose sparkling wine. The Patrick Bottex is spectacular! When we served it at a dinner party last night, one guest who "knows wine" kept asking for more. A very "off-the-beaten-path wine that is low alcohol (8% and filled with flavor and bubbles (little). The production method stops the fermentation early so there is a very enjoyable hint of residual sugar.

Solid, and fairly complex. Solidly sweet, but has a nice complexity. It is of course dominated by red fruits like strawberry, rhubarb, sugar cane, etc, but has a light green bitter edge, and even some light tannic structure (I think). 8% alcohol. I didnt pair it properly, but would be great with a great many spicy and complex foods, and as an after dinner drink.

I'd like this better if it were half as sweet. Interesting, certainly, but I feel like it is too driven by the sugar. I think it would go over well in many crowds, but my family balks at sweetness in wine so only about a quarter bottle was consumed at a family dinner, after dinner at that. I am fine with RS if it is balanced but this seemed simple. Will try the other bottle I purchased sometime soon and reevaluate.

This is quite a tasty, quaffable, summer thirst quencher. Nose of red fruits with lots of strawberry dominating. The palate is fresh with nice acidity and refreshing mousse. It is slightly sweet, yet retains plenty of freshness. If you are looking for an off dry, fairly simple, but delicious and affordable sparkling wine to drink, this is it. I found it was quite good with sushi as the sweetness was nice with the wasabi heat, but it would also be good as a BBQ or summer aperitif.

Chad Stock of Minimum Wines (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): 90% Gamay and 10% Poulsard. Odd, tart funkiness. Crazy that it doesn't follow through on the palate, though, which is smooth, creamy and yummy. Lovely fruit and quite sweet. Lovely candied notions on the finish, but really drying and tart acid lingers. Lovely minerality too.

Chad Stock of Minimus Wines (E&R Wine Shop; Portland, OR): Strawberry scents are wrapped in dark bread crust and lifted with a zest of lime. Real nice strawberry flavors show immediately when tasted. There is a depth to the fruit that lingers along with light rose petal flavors. A touch of cream gives a bit of richness and complexity toward the finish while strawberry flavors linger. This is friendly and lovely.

Random single bottle purchase, but will be searching for more. Highly effervescent with dense bright red strawberry and a touch of cranberry. Yeast notes through the middle but the acid and cranberry really carry the long finish. 8% with just a touch of residual sugar, but just the right creamy sweetness.

Okay. Not an expert by any means on sparkling wines or champagne at all but this was on my wife's favorites. It is extremely sweet. Rose is color. Loads of acidity and did I mention sweet. Geez almost too much for me. But I love big reds so this is not in my wheel house. Of course if it involves more drinking in order to learn that by all means sign me up. After sipping this there is just so much residual sugar on my palate that it almost numbs it. Lots of apple, apricot, and pear on the nose. On the palate it is overwhelming sweet, some honey suckle, peach and pear. Nice finish. Not complex but rich and over the top. I did like it though.

Now this is Fun stuff -- note the F. Not serious sparkling -- but it should be taken quite seriously for what it is. Lambrusco meets -- well I'm not really sure. Great strawberry nose followed by flavors of Dr. Pepper (I think diet), raspberry sucking candy, ice pop, wild strawberries (those little ones), and strawberry pink lemonade. But restrained -- not too sticky or sweet, just phun (note the ph). 8% alcohol -- this stuff screams for a hot summer. Beckons grilled sloppy burgers poolside as well as roast chicken and BBQ. I'll be loading up on this one in anticipation for the summer heat. It's the kind of juice you drink when your hands are slathered in BBQ sauce, your champagne glass is now all sticky in the sun, you are sticky with sun block -- but all is great and you just don't care because life is good?

Re:posting under the correct bottle: Alluring rose pink color- stunning in the right flute. Pink foam; strawberry and hint of yeast on the nose; remarkable sweet strawberry and cherry with some weight on the tongue (methode ancestrale) and a very long finish for the style. Some will find this soda-like. Have had this wine served with an appetizer where it worked well. Would pair well with the right salad or fruity dessert. Recommend avoiding this wine the over-serious or those who eschew sweetness in their wines. For others: a party in a glass

Perfectly delicious. Expressive nose displaying cherry cobbler, strawberry soda, copper, apple cider and earth. Fine mousse, tart, a hint of sugar, bright acidity and earth. There is an impression of something very raw, starts with beautiful upfront fruits and noticeable sweetness but ends in very earthy note. The fine mousse is not unlike a high end Champagne. Nothing that one needs to intellectualize but so darn delicious and will be interesting to observe how it ages as there is pretty good concentration and acidity.
P.S. I read the TNs on CT and a number of folks posted light pink and refreshing. This particular bottle is showing a hint of copper also darker spectrum of rose flavor so pretty intense although refreshing.

Had this as a pairing during a meal at Cyrus a month ago, and decided it would be an offbeat sparkler for New Years Eve. Definitely fits in the "Of Interest to Wine Geeks" category with all it's unusual features: appellation, grapes, méthode ancestrale production, glass experience. I kept thinking I was drinking something like a Framboise or Kriek with the persistent foamy head on top of this wine. I wasn't all that fond of it, but it cleared the palate before we poured some big wines.

Kermit Lynch Tasting (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): Off pink/purple in the glass. Pretty and simple on the nose with a raspberry and grape soda character. Sweet yeasty nose of mirabelle plum and strawberry. Your first taste feels big, bright, and full of too sweet fruit, but then it's not as big or as sweet as you thought. You realize there's real complexity here. Black cherry, strawberry, honey -- like a liquefied Jolly Rancher -- swirl around a faint, delicate minerality that grows chalky on the finish and enough acid throughout to support the sweet. Sure, it reminds you of Kool-Aid, but the kind of Kool-Aid you should drink in a tux.

I opened this the day after St. Patricks Day so that may have something to do with the lower rating... Brought this to a family dinner for everyone to try - this bottle was slightly less carbonated than others I have had and I think that may have affected my enjoyment of it a bit. Still very tasty. Delicious. The 91 rating is as much for the fun we had drinking this bottle as for the taste (which was quite solid). This should be a real hit at parties and for about $20 a literal POP you can't go wrong. Very refreshing on the palate with some cranberries and other red fruits. A ton of bubbles - this is not a lazy fizzer. Give it a try!

At the beach house and relaxed: Pale but bright pink and happily frothing. Nose shows a bit of the sweetness but also a healthy dose of cranberry and quinine. Palate is sweeter than the nose and shows hints of the strawberry expected from Bugey, but shows more cherry and still a bit of the cranberry. Sweeter and a bit less fresh on the palate than the Renardet-Fachet (as others have also commented), but made quite intriguing by the cranberry and quinine on the nose. I enjoy these things in the proper context and am pleased to find some variety within the genre.

Its hard to admit I really liked it, but I did, as did all my guests who tried it. Its unlike almost any wine I've tried. So much like raspberry soda in flavor and appearance, its hard to believe its made from grapes. This wine is a crowd pleaser. Wine geeks will like it as well-made and unique. Novices will like it out of good, clean fun. Admit it - you enjoyed this wine.

Dinner II with Lou & BettyLu (My place.): I’d been looking forward to trying this as the only Bugey-Cerdon I had ever previously had was the Renardat-Fâche, brought in by Joe Dressner. I picked up two bottles of the Bottex at the Kermit Lynch shop in Berkley this past July as despite the fact that the company I work for distributes Kermit Lynch in these parts, for some reason we don’t bring in the Bottex. I hope that changes.
Like the Renardat-Fâche, this is a fun, pink, frothy, lightly sweet drink that’s a joy to drink and won’t knock you silly with only 8% alcohol. A blend of 80% Gamay and 20% Poulsard, it shows red berry fruit à la strawberry, raspberry and cherry with nice chalky minerality. I will say that the Bottex version is maybe a tad more fruit forward and sweeter and a touch less minerally and crisp than the Renardat-Fâche, but it’s pretty close. Delicious stuff, but I marginally prefer the Renardat-Fâche, though I could drink either all night and day. I have one bottle left for the long awaited Bugey-Cerdon horizontal! Solid B+.

My first taste of this particular Bugey (I've had the Renardat many times), and I have to say that I prefer this one. It's still a mostly strawberry and cherry fruit bomb, but the Bottex seems marginally more structured and has an herbal component to the flavors. The fruit seems vaguely "hard candyish" but not over the top into Hawaiian Punch land. Typically refreshing on a hot evening, with the low alcohol leaving room for more serious imbibing at a later time.

This is the new release of this nonvintage wine, from 2003 fruit. Darker pink, a little less crisp but still very, very tasty. Both of these bottles disappeared at a dinner party tonight.

$16. A Kermit Lynch import. If you haven't had a Vin de Bugey Cerdon, you need to start now. A VDQS, this slightly fizzy pink sparkler is an ideal summer wine. Slightly sweet, but with more balancing acidity than you'd expect, it might be best described as "kir royale in a bottle". A mere 8% alchohl means that you can slurp down a whole bottle when it's hot out, you just can't go wrong with this strawberry-filled little gem. Very Good.

brvino Wine Tasting #4 - Sparkling Wines (brvino Undergraduate Wine Club at UCLA): Completely clear with deep neon pink colour.

Good value. Alcohol 8%.

There are notes of raspberry and cherry on both the nose and palate with a good dose of acid, but few tannins. Or even better, after dinner as a pairing with fruit tart, especially black fruit, like marionberry pie.

Alluring rose pink color- stunning in the right flute.

Low alcohol, mild acids, and crisp raspberry fruit. A light sparkler perfect for summer, or for early on at a New Year's party (where this bottle was emptied). Enjoyed by both wine admirers and the "I hate wine" guests.

Very Good.
