The wine aroma elicits notes of blueberry, cola and a faint smokiness. The wine has plenty of acidity and medium tannins. I would say the palate gets a short burst of the blueberry, almost reduced to a jam, with strong minerality, some dried rose petals and some chalkiness. A meaty wine that delivers exciting mouthfeel and should be savored.

Deep inky purple in the glass. Heavy nose with stewed black fruit, prune, baked plum, cassis and then notes of blueberry pie, graphite, brown sugar and pomegranate. Medium. Icy mouth with a high acidity, medium alcohol and still some grippy tannins. A little unbalanced with the acidity. Some notes of licorice and strawberry jam melt in a medium length finish. Good but not outstanding.

(Mostly) Spanish dinner (Chicago, IL): Not quite my style. This was very dark, but the fruit felt a little muddled (probably something to do with grenache getting too ripe). Sweet, and lacking a backbone to keep everything in place, and the there seems to be some slight decaying notes to the fruit (as opposed to development).

Nose: This from a pop and pour and it was singing from the outset with tones of black cherries, licorice, black raspberries, blackberries, crushed rocks, violets, black currants, liqueur notes, dark spices, a bit of cedar, bitter chocolate, and just a bit of dusty notes to round it all out. This was just classic Priorat and especially, classic Clos Mogador in all of the best ways possible.
Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and resolving, medium+ tannins. This isn’t dainty or close to it on the palate, but there is a deftness that is utterly irresistible. The feel is like a light heavyweight that can stick and move with black cherries, black raspberries, blackberries, black currants, dark spices, cedar, liqueur notes, violets, and crushed rocks.
Overall: Though this could’ve benefitted from a decant, it really did shoot right out of the gates. It absolutely has a larger frame and to expect differently is just wrong in my opinion. This is classic Priorat and I love it. This is pretty much perfect right now and it will certainly hold for at least another 5+ years.

I can see why many people like this, especially if you prefer rich modern style wines. It is certainly well made and has a unique flavor profile to it. Strawberry jam on the nose, dark plum, soy sauce, and the finish tasted a little oaky with high alcohol/high acidity. I rated this highly years ago, but my palate has changed and it didn't hit me the same way this time. 90-91 pts.
Deep red color with limited hints of brown at the edge. Still looks and tastes very young. Sharp distinct aroma of black cherries with fresh leather, some brackish seawater elements, and rich long flavor. Initially tannic with good acidity but after an hour or more of aeration, it began to soften. Very enjoyable today but might be best in 3-8 year.

This wine took a couple of hours to settle down, Initially too much acidity but after a few hours the balance improved significantly displaying great concentrated fruit flavors. drank with braised pork. I will wait a few years before next bottle.

Pretty deep dark berrie and mineral herbal bukett. On the palate with medium+ structure and on the finish with a lot of salty liquorice and a good length. A fine acidity that is just enough, but on the borderline. A little more freshness would be welcome. In spite of that delicious and quite powerful. Ready to drink, but with a lot more years ahead.

Typical Priorat concentration of black fruit, graphite, cocoa powder, charcoal, liquorice. The nose is intense and expressive, palate still tight and young, with fine-grained, but still slightly assertive tannins. Just starting to enter drinkability, do decant for 2 hours if you decide to open now. To pair with game like deer.

Coravin from new bottle. Very tight and primary red berries upon opening. Needs at least 30 minutes in glass to be enjoyable at restaurant. At home, a long decant is better. Nose has brown and purple fruits, some spicy chorizo notes. Palate has nice tannins, some licorice flavors. High acidity. Disappointing drinking experience right now. Wait 5-8 years. Wine has a long life ahead from the acidity.

Dinner at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons with family and friends for son's 30th. Limited notes. A couple of bottles following on the 2003 vintage (noted) and into the cheese interlude. The basic profile was the same as the 2003 minus the truffle element and with a touch of unresolved tannins. The fruit was much tighter and the overall impression was of a wine that needs at least 12yrs from vintage to show at its best. Nonetheless the firm structure went well with the cheese board. Not fair to mark at this stage. Hold till 2021 at least. 92+?+ potential.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), blueberry, raisin, coconut and alcohol/hot. It tastes like black currant (cassis) and cherry. The body is full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Monthly Tuesday group The Dead Sparrow #011: Priorat (By PS): Beautiful bouquet with chocolate, sweet spices, vanilla; intense and refined. On the palate a lot of good and ripe dark forest fruits, dark cherries, garrigue, brown spiced biscuit, good acidity and tannin with still a pleasant bite. Mouth filling wine which is already a great pleasure, but is still youthful as well.

Wow. Found a bottle in the cellar and opened for spaghetti night. A very nice surprise, as the wine opened up over about an hour and is drinking nicely. The wine is dark, rich and clear with nice legs. Bouquet is not really fruity, maybe a little vanilla. Still has a little bite and will last a few more years, but don't hesitate to open if you're willing to decant. Pretty good example of Priorat.

Imagine a woman about to finish her morning jog. She's in her fatigues, sweaty and not particularly attractive but you can easily imagine how immensely beautiful she'd be in different clothes and make-up. Or let me put it this way - this wine is in a middle of a tunnel and it's frustrating to get glimpses of what it will be, now that I opened the bottle too early.

Monthly Tasting Group: Spain (Solera, Mpls, MN): Very dark red-purple color. Unknown decant, drank 2oz pour over an hour. Wow, this was impressive, shockingly for being so young. But man this was open and rockin'. Nose is deeply earthy, damp, mushroom, savory, crushed berries, dried fruits, perfumed and floral. The palate has nice depth, silky and layered, nice fruit, blackberry, cassis, black cherry, some spices, well integrated and completely balanced with a very long finish. 93+ to 94pts.

Under its dense purple robe hides a wine that definitely needs time to open up. Nose, mouth and final are defined by a complex structure which brings two superposed layers build by the tannins. The most volatile one is a shadowy, blurring, layer offers some notes of licorice and very light mint; the major layers offer some grilled and dried notes of red meat and nuts. This is a complex wine, yet I find it to restrained and short on its feet. My guess is that it will improve with time...but what do I know about Priorat?

This wine is good, not great. Very tight all around but opened up after a couple of hours. Blackberry and black cherry with slate. Not a whole lot going on midway, precise but not deep. Finish was okay. Wine is in balance with a bit of acidity but all well integrated.

Tight, but concentrated on the nose, toasty with creamy accents to the black fruit and mineral aromas. Medium bodied and tannic on the palate, with the tannins beginning on the entry and persisting through the finish; the mouthfeel here is firm, but not unyielding, with strong black fruit, oak and mineral flavors.

Inky purple. Some iodine on the nose, mixed with cherry and floral characteristics with a little funky earth. Dark cherry and forest with great viscosity. A firm tannins and a very long finish. This wine could probably use a few more years of age, or an hour or two in a decanter.

Tasted non blind.
Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of potpourri, mixed dark fruits and wet stones. Flavors of currants, berries and plums. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink with air or hold.

Decanted. Good acidity. Rustic wine. No blockbuster but a more elegant style. Great performance.

94+ pts. One of the better wines I have had this year. Really liked this a lot, smooth and balanced, with a perfect mid palate and finish. Definitely one that can go on forever.

Dark color. Great flavors with long finish. Drinking really well now after an hour decant. Worth the price.

This '09 like the '08 are wines of serious pedigree. Concentrated with bold dark fruit flavors. Spiced gently with oak and herbs. Elegant, dense, and long this wine is for real and deserves much attention. I have to buy more the next chance I get.

This was a nice medium body wine and it was enjoyed as a cocktail as a nice end to a fun night. This was decanted for about 2 hours and i am sure it would have been very nice with a meal.

Opaque purple. Heady nose of blueberry liqueur and kirsch. Medium-bodied, pretty nice mouthfeel, some tannin. You can definitely taste the alcohol. Points for typicity (I'm assuming this is Grenache-based), but not my style.
