Fresh with plenty of acid. Almost smokey nose when first opened that dissipated within 15 minutes. After breathing, mouth/nose combined for that salty popcorn experience with extra minerality. This is why Leflaive is considered one of the greatest wine makers. The size of Montrachet, the richness of Meursault, the flint and stones of the best plots of burgundy. Quite a deep, golden hue, you may think 90s burgundy if you didn't smell or taste. The nose is dominated by flint and burnt match. With time, this evolves to butter and popcorn. After a short time in the decanter it sings flaunting a floral freshness, signature Leflaive sesame, lemon curd, honeysuckle and smoky minerals. Served single blind next to Comte Lafon Charmes 96. The Leflaive was at a similar (high) level. A reconditioned bottle it showed some reduction from the additional sulphur during reconditioning. Underlying a very nice taut and mature white Burgundy with lovely amplitude but not prematurely advanced in any way, a bottle in perfect condition as it should be but not always is with Leflaive even for the reconditioned wines (redeeming a very disappointing reconditioned 04 Chevalier had around a year back).

Bright, fresh, clean. Cut from the same cloth as the '04 Chevalier in the next glass, a gear less powerful and less aromatically striking, but has that same faint smoke and sulphur above mineral rich and bright yellow fruit. When these wines are clean they are just terrific. 93 - 94.

Leflaive LOVES me...I've had nothing but good bottles, except that 07 Meursault yuk, and my luck continues! Almost 7yrs to the day since I last had this wine...starts out with a good dose of protective reduction...wonderful match strike, butter sautéed peaches, fresh squeeze lemon over dried honey, mint, chalk dust nose. All FRESH...no signs of apple juice...and the reduction melds in nicely. Nose translated to the palate...the fruit is pitted orchard...little waxy...nice creamy GC like weight, slight hollow mid. Ample citrus acidity livens...shows spicy honey and smoked white pepper...pretty white flower and peach tree blossom florals...very saline with that wonderful limestone chalk, hazelnuts, and crushed minerals...finishes long and lingering with that honey, smoked white pepper, and barrel spice...wafting subtle reduction and citrus sour...you beg for another sip! This is why we do it! Amazing!

Initially the wine showed some ripeness of yellow fruit in an one dimensional way. After 90 mins, the wine bursted out with acidity and layers. Very complex with ripe yellow fruit and baked apple but acidity was high enough to uplift it. The wine is starting to drink well. It is now in an optimal drinking window with no problem to age for another 7-8 years.

Simply gorgeous and drinking beautifully tonight with really great flavors of crunchy lemon and mint. Finishes complex and full of minerals, spices and more mint. This has reached peak but without premox, it should last for quite some time as there's still plenty of structure and fruit. Really great White Burgundy!

#3 of 12. PnP - This bottle made me nervous. It started out more reductive than prior bottles. The oxidative notes took almost an hour to blow off and the wine opened up.

Fra standard flaske. Vakker på duft med stor intensitet - hvit i frukten og mengder med knust stein, ørlite popcorn og hint av blomster. Intens i munn - full speed. Ungdommelig, konsentrert og fresh. Drikker bra nå, men gode flasker vil holde lenge. Mineraliteten prikker så man kjenner det helt ut til øra. Meget fast og presis i utgangen med imponerende lengde.

i recently had this wine. and it was KILLER. no sign of pre-mox; still had great acidity, zing, incredibly long length, along with the signature matchstick aromas that is so Leflaive. as someone who generally likes whites young, this 12 year old pucelles performed like a champ.

Wowzers! I guess we lucked out given the other CT notes.
That classic old school leflaive with sulfer on the nose but also with rich fruit and buttered popcorn on the plate. Incredible texture and length. Some vanilla custard sweetness. No signs of premox. Light yellow with a tinge of green. So good. What a shame the recent vintages show nothing like this.

First bottle out of a case purchased in 2007. Light yellow color, taught nose of minerals, nuts and chalk, almost chablis like. Energetic on the palate with bright acidity, laser-like minerality and a bracing finish. Clearly the 04 vintage characteristics have resulted in an atypical, and totally enjoyable, Pucelles.

With these 2004 Leflaives it is always a question whether the bottle will be terminally reduced. Fortunately, neither this nor the Combettes had that problem. While there was a bit of reduction early on, it soon eventually blew off and the wine really opened up. Lots of yummy nutty notes, some oak, very solid fruit and almost Grand Cru power here. Really good.

Wow, did this wine deliver tonight. Not a hint of premox ansd showing the classic sulphur on the nose that young Leflaive's often possess. On the palate, there is a wonderful smoky quality along with firm acidity and great freshness. Then palate-staining intensity kicks in with flavors of lemons, charcoal and smoky limes. The finish is extraordinary showing deeply complex and very finely concentrated mineral and tropicl fruit notes. A great Pucelles that is 5-years from peak. 94+

A Ledbury lunch (The Ledbury): Mid straw. Lovely nose, classic Leflaive mineral, lightly toasted hazelnut, white mushroom and a slightly floral lift. Very bright and focused on the attack, mid weight with a lightness and elegance through the mid palate before a long and lingering finish that is delicate without being weak. Lovely, and holds well over several hours. Understated class. ****

Clear. Clean. Developing, but still very primal. Very good intensity, no elements out of place, a super elegant and refined wine. Lots of fruit and lots of minerality. Racy acidity with a very Puligny touch to it's energy. Orchard fruits, apples, citrius, white blossoms. Balanced. The palate is an intense experience, very elegant and contained, but so much to it. Very good length on the finish.
Seems to me to be a very seamless wine, subtle yet super expressive in a way, very concentrated. This is a very, very good wine.

Sulphur and wood on the nose. Sulphur blows off after a while and wine really develops over 2-3 hours. Quite rich and extracted but balanced with minerals and acidity. Very voluminous and textured mouthfeel, really love it! Finish is super long. Creme brulee, saline, lemon notes. Deep and intense. Love to try another bottle soon. Although it is a fantastic bottle of wine, something falls a bit short from it being unforgettable.

Mike Grammer Comes to Town - KS version (Ripple Restaurant in DC): Initially ripe yellow fruit dominates, lemon curd, crème brulee, sulfur and a hint of smoke/ash coming from the 04 taint note which is not terribly bothersome. For my palate, the 04 white Burgundies lack energy and precision and this is no exception. This is my favorite Leflaive 1er crus as I find them rich yet quite precise due to the bright acidity and mineral presence. This was not terribly precise and the 04 taint clipped the finish a bit short. YMMV will vary significantly due to the 04 taint sensitivity. Certainly a good wine but a bit disappointing in lieu of the pedigree.

Stunning. First bottle of six, and this is singing right now - no premox whatsoever. A bit of sulfur initially, but it blows off and this comes around as a complete wine with plenty of minerals and acidity to balance the rich, hedonistic style of burgundy. I am loving it. (Birthday at Formel B)

Lots of sulphur on the nose that eventually blew off. Classic Leflaive reductive style but with lots of time really showed some beautiful and elegant notes of lemons, hazelnuts and charcoal minerals with a fine complexity on the finish. Needs lots more time and no evidence of premox here although the hell of white Burgundy is that it's a bottle by bottle epidemic which is why I no longer buy the stuff. Good bottles of this should age really well. 93+

This is really reductive and dominated by sulfury notes at first, but after an hour or so in the glass the sulfur finally clears and gives way to layers of bright citrus and pear fruit framed by all sorts of savoury chalky, vanilla butter and hazelnut notes. Really complex and polished with a round, silky texture on the palate and bright acidity beneath. Fantastic.

Manchester United vs Liverpool (Ming and Marlene's): Really lovely, this is a great 1er Cru that is starting to drink really nicely. It had a typically arresting Leflaive nose, full of notes that almost smelt like smoked bacon, then some roasted walnuts, whiffs of gunflint and a core of sweet red apples and stewed pear aromas. Nicely complex and very interesting. The palate had a mature, mellow attack, with white fruit in the spectrum of ripe apples and pears dominant. It then opened up into a fresher, more youthful midpalate that showed off lovely lemony acidity and an effortlessly sinuous grip and structure, before stretching out into a lovely savoury finish that filled the backpalate with curls of smoked meat and mineral and nuts. Again, very nicely complex and very delicious. This did not have the layered depth of the truly great vintages of Leflaive Pucelles, but this was a very good wine indeed, and rather unusually subtle for Leflaive. It is already drinking very nicely now, but will continue to improve in the next few years at least. Yum.

Pop and poured, drunk over dinner. I was very glad the wine wasn’t oxidized or corked! Very satisfying overall, balanced with subtle mineral and floral aromas and flavors. However, the flavor-volume was muted, wanted the volume on 7 but the wine only delivered to 5. The mid palate was also hollow; it was like the wine sat as a half inflated inner tube on the palate, the flavors all around but missing in the middle. Don’t hear me wrong, this is a good enjoyable wine overall, just not brilliant like some of Laflaive’s other wines.

STG End of Year (Roy's): tasted blind OMG bottle. the nose was cereal-like, with a bit of celery and then some rice-crispies aromas to it. The palate had more cereal flavor, with sprightly acid, a light bitterness on the sides (or "matchstick" to some) the long finish was amazing, and the flavors continued to complicate over time. I felt like my tongue was being twisted into a balloon-animal by a master French chef. I do wonder how white burgundy can get better than this.

Insanely good white burgundy. If you like your burgundy rich and concentrated with intense fruit then you'd love this burgundy. There is a nice balance of minerality and acid but not so prominent that it would draw in acid lovers. Definitely shows the vintage with the soft waxy texture and the borderline sweet apple fruit.
The length on this wine is so long that the richness just focuses into the center of your palate. If you give the wine time I can imagine that it expands to just envelop your whole palate with that rich concentrated fruit.

Leesy aromas dominate, giving the impression of oxidation and masking the fruit, but on the full and chewy palate the flavours are free to run riot with herbs and hazelnuts, lemon and lime, and mineral notes, on an acid spine; leading to a long and dry finish with a touch of zest for lift.

This has reached peak but without premox, it should last for quite some time as there's still plenty of structure and fruit. Really great White Burgundy!

Fra standard flaske.
Vakker på duft med stor intensitet - hvit i frukten og mengder med knust stein, ørlite popcorn og hint av blomster.
Intens i munn - full speed.
Ungdommelig, konsentrert og fresh.
Drikker bra nå, men gode flasker vil holde lenge.
Mineraliteten prikker så man kjenner det helt ut til øra.
Meget fast og presis i utgangen med imponerende lengde.

OMG bottle. the nose was cereal-like, with a bit of celery and then some rice-crispies aromas to it.
