Served blind from mag. Darker colour than the 04 ruinart rose it was paired with. Slightly stinky, reduced nose. Biting acidic mousse. Compact. Very slowly opening. Some confusion with the somm about which was which in this flight but I’m 100% convinced this was the dp! Not a great showing for such an august wine in mag format.

DCWiNO’S note below from 1/19 describes my experience with this today, to a tee.... don’t wait to open this hoping for superior tertiary flavors, you’ll be missing the very best this has to offer, in a truly great rose champ. A lazy Sunday lunch - Bordeaux blind, Raveneau, PYCM, Yquem, Dom Rose and etc. (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Captivating Burgundian nose displaying decadent red fruit, strawberry candy, raspberry water, cherry, rose, smoke, sous bois, roasted almond, brioche, sweet spices and limestone. Beautiful harmonious palate, very finely layered decadent yet pure red fruit, shy fine mousse, bright and precise, perfect amount of acidity and mineral and a long seamless decadent strawberry driven finish with sweet spices and brioche at the end. Bill mentions that this bottle seems a bit more advanced but more complex and I have to agree. It is like drinking a perfectly mature 30 year old Chambolle with bubbles.

Good gosh, square brick shoulders on this wine. Lacking finesse all the way. Showed better on the warm side than chilled. Had the ‘05 Tait. Comté rosé tonight, and the Taittinger, showed a lot better for much less, dollar and Pallet-wise. The Dom will have a really long life ahead of it, guessing at least 10+ years. The fruit was in your face, just as was the acid. Bubbles were mid-sized and brash, compared to the soft-fine bubbles of Taittinger. Hold for the next trip the Browns take to the Super Bowl.

Superior red fruit definition from strawberries and currants compete to a tasty draw with brioche and baking baguette.
The kind of wine that makes your date take the whole ice bucket over to her side of the table so nobody (including me) even considers asking for a taste.

Haut Brion Vertical -1998 to 2009 (The Grill Room at the Rosewood DC): Gorgeous refine Burgundian nose displaying raspberry soda, cherry, a hint of smoke, sweet spices, rose, coffee, brioche and mineral. Beautifully balanced palate, silky and polished, incredibly fine mousse, delicious red fruit driven palate impression, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long subtle red fruit driven finish with a hint of cinnamon and limestone at the end. This is drinking beautifully but can improve for another decade or two, becoming like the glorious 85.

Yet another holiday dinner with amazing wines (Black Salt, Washington D.C.): Rich and creamy, Loads of energy, too as it sits in glass. Yeasty, wet stone, lemon. The 2003 rosé is perhaps deeper, but I like the balance here more, or at least it strikes a different balance. Long finish and lovely stuff. Certainly matched well the seared tuna, avocado, king crab, and radish :-)

Perhaps an off bottle but this lacked the strawberry and red fruit profile that the Dom Rose typically exhibits. All in all, this was quite muted. The hallmark doughy, nutty notes were there but the Rose character was very faint.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume II (Chicago, IL): In the last few years since I had tasted this, this has apparently gotten incredibly better. Much better knit, with a roundness that I don't remember ever experiencing. This is still steely and acidic, but it has certainly rounded out very nicely and is much more balanced now. There are a few notes of sour strawberries here that stick out quite prominently. Lots of upside still, of course.

A lost Friday afternoon gathering – 75 Trotanoy, 07 Roumier BM and 10 Jobard Les Tillets that we all guessed at the Roulot. (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Beautiful vinous nose, subtle red fruit, raspberry, cherry, strawberry, a hint of roasted fruit/coffee, candied rose petal, brioche and limestone. There is a beguiling note of fully mature chambolle, beautiful interplay of shy sweet red fruit, caramel and sous bois. A palate to die for, incredibly fine mousse, subtle silky texture, airy like a cotton candy, sweet subtle red fruit and candied rose petal driven palate impression, bright acidity and a lovely long subtle red fruit driven finish. It displays beautiful balance and subtlety without compromising the intensity. Sort of Champagne that everyone can love. The fruit seems slightly shier than the previous bottles which actually enhances the overall balance. Excellent sophisticate hedonistic Champagne.

Lovely pale tangerine color, with fine bubbles. A gentle, delicately floral nose showcases brioche, orange peel, sweet cherries. You expect it to also taste sweet, but in fact the wine is quite dry and clean, crisp, with a lifted palate and a very long finish. Impressive, still very young.

Crush's Annual Champagne Clusterfuck 2016: Quick note (11 wines in 30 minutes): Holy shit, this smells like sparkling Red Burgundy on the nose: berries, meat, funk, mushrooms, earth, sous bois, sharp, perfumed, spices. Devo goes really well with Dom Pérignon’s 2004 Rosé. We found this out while we whittled away an hour or two in the outstanding guest rooms at Brae. There’s a turntable in each room with eclectic offering of vinyl and whilst the flower potted head muso’s were ‘whipping it’ a frenzy of bubbles whipped up in our glass and delivered an aroma and flavour hit of exquisite red berry fruits, wheaten biscuit and fresh hay. With air you get whiffs of jasmine tea and the palate is strong, with a graphite edge. It has great power and finesse

Rayas and friends (Chicago, IL): A day with Dom Rosé is always going to be a good day. I'm told this was quite reductive when it was opened -- I got to this wine a little later. This is screamingly young, with a real steely quality to it. The acids are a bit bracing right now, and the minerality and all that good stuff just needs more time to knit itself together. It certainly rounded out in the glass, and I suspect that this will be one to enjoy down the road. That said, this was still super delicious for its sheer concentration and power now.

Decoding the spirit of Dom Pérignon tasting event (1855 Star Vista): Not rated as had only 1 glass. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, orangey salmon colour. Legs. Fine persistent bubbles. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of saline minerality, fresh strawberries, citrus lime, and spice. Developing. On the palate, dry, piercing high acidity, medium alcohol, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sour red cherries, strawberries, citrus lime, saline minerality, slight spice. Long finish. Simply sizzling on the tongue, but goes down smoothly. Bold style that is open and inviting. Just a slight tartness on the aftertaste if I had to complain about anything. Very good quality Rose Champagne. My favourite of the Dom tasting. Drink over the next 3-5 years.

A lively Rose Champagne that needs a little time to open up. Light salmon pink in color; medium in body; nose of violet and chalk. Graceful - and surprisingly youthful - tastes of strawberry, cranberry, cherry, saline, and yeast. 12.5% alcohol. Seemed better an hour in, and it has plenty of life ahead of it. I question if this is worth the price, at least now, but it is as classy as Rose Champagne can get - and it will almost surely become more interesting with age.

No formal notes, just enjoyed with lunch. Every bit as good as the '03 rosé enjoyed a few days ago, perhaps even better, richer. Deep pink in the glass, sweet raspberry and strawberry nose. Madeira and Champagne (Chicago, IL): This bottle seemed to show more fruit and roundness than the more steely examples I had before. The nose had some nice floral tones as well, and the palate's rounded out red fruits were just lovely. Still, this is obviously just a baby, and a few years to let everything integrate should do this wine very well.

Dom Perignon Rose Dinner (Momotaro - Chicago, IL): Drank alongside the 2003 DP Rose. A very youthful bottle of champagne, but I think it shows signs of reaching the heights on the 1995 Dom Perignon Rose. Really nice combination of stoniness, cranberries, roses, & mushroom. The palate was incredibly bright with lots of structure...and that was the biggest difference between this and the 2003. This was far more firm and was a good sign that there's a lot of aging potential here.

HDH holiday tasting (Chicago, IL): My first taste of this wine was unimpressive. It ticked all the boxes, but that was it. When I revisited it (since I thought this was very different from my first taste of the wine a few months back and wanted to be sure of my assessment), this did become more expressive, showing some light florals and cranberry, as well as some steely acids. I think I'd like a slight touch more richness, but who am I kidding, I'd never kick a Dom rose out of bed.

This tasted a lot older than I expected which was interesting because for a champagne 11 years is pretty young. Much more of an almost smokey flavor to it. Didn't get any fruit to speak of. Bubbles were ok, but not quite as fine as you find with a Krug. Enjoyable because who doesn't like pink bubbles, but much too expensive for what it is. I like champagnes that are a quarter of the price pretty similarly.

The fruit was in your face, just as was the acid. Bubbles were mid-sized and brash, compared to the soft-fine bubbles of Taittinger. Hold for the next trip the Browns take to the Super Bowl.

A treAt.
Superior red fruit definition from strawberries and currants compete to a tasty draw with brioche and baking baguette.
The kind of wine that makes your date take the whole ice bucket over to her side of the table so nobody (including me) even considers asking for a taste.
Bjork put a pink laser laser on the box; close enuf —(interestingly I actually preferred this wine to the 1996 Rose a few nights ago) JD
