10 years after Riesling tasting - 2014 (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Glass: Gabriel Universal Bottle opened ~10h before the tasting. Clear, pale golden color. Classic SF nose with noticeable sulphur. On the palate on a similar level with the Halenberg. Very solid, very good, still upscale potential. 93+

2014 Shafer-Frohlich Felseneck Grosses Gewachs (23 15) 13% abv Burg stem. Blue slate and quartzite again. Pale yellow. This is a pile of summery blossoms - magnolia especially, along with some ripe melon aromas and apricots. The palate (like the Halenberg) seems to have just a shade over threshold RS so that some sweetness of marzipan and coconut come into play. Impeccably balanced and just lovely to drink.

This is still so young - continuing to improve after several hours open and in the decanter. Overall a very subtle, precise, elegant wine, with green apple, honeysuckle, moss, lime, pineapple and slate. There's a sort of bacon fat, biscuity thing on the finish which took me aback somewhat. It's mouthwatering and powerful and almost, but not quite, delicious.

Just one solid glass from Coravin into Stölzle Quatrophil Burgundy, drank slowly. Some spontaneous fart in the first nose, but quite subtle. Pineapple, apricot, mandarine, yellow-red apple. Smooth texture, more apricot, mandarine, some streusel and hazelnut caramel. Medium+ body, ripe unintrusive acidity and obvious residual sugar, that makes the wine feel a bit more opulent and hedonistic than the style i prefer usually. Finishs long with salty minerality cutting through all that creamy mouthfeel.

Drank at alt-Rieslingfeier. A touch too warm, but already with great precision and a very expansive mid-palate. When on, this bottling always makes me think of gooseberries (the Russian ones). Better and more complex than the 14 Hallenberg poured next to it.

Top of the heap from Bockenau! Again this bottle shows why S-F is among the very few best Riesling producers, more tension than the Schiefergestein the bottle before, purity of grape- and lemon fruit, almost zesty still, razor blade sharp mineralic tension, salty like the Atlantic, focused Riesling, still young, will improve over the next decade ++, but it is worth to try this one as often as possible, **(**-*****), 93-96+?

This felt leaner and a bit closed compared to last time I had it back in 2017. One can glimpse the underlying complexity but for now it is just a very good wine, not fantastic as usual. Still, very nice lemon and lime, with very mineral feeling - lots of chalk and granite. Pure, no stinky notes at all that I can find. Just slight hints of smoke and rubber. Very long, taunt and citric finish. Give it a few more years.

Only had a very small glass out of the 750ml format as the wine was gone rather quickly, which is always a good sign for a good bottle of wine. :) On the nose, precise, clean and pure, green apples, light stony fruits, grapefruits and white flowers, on the palate, it showed great purity in fruits, nice and crisp acidity, modest honey herbal tea, and minerals, still quite young but see so much ageing potential in this wine.

Much lighter in color than the Diel Goldloch GG 2010 next to it. Young (too young) at the moment and slightly closed, but full of potential. First some notes of spontaneous fermentation, blew off after a while. Pungent mineral notes of slate, wet stone, smoke, also some citrus notes and mint. It's medium+ bodied, crystalline and weightless, and has a vein of super high acidity providing backbone. Excellent length. I like the pure, weightless and "minimalistic" style a lot but I am pretty sure this will show better in a few years. Lot's of potential but not easy to drink right now. (92-95)

More open than the 2015 I had last autumn. Lots of smoke, diesel and mineral. Also some rubber, but not dominant. Fruit is there in the background. Intense and long. Lovely wine. Room for improvement with further cellaring: probably even better in a couple of years, but already a great, great wine. A contender for best riesling ever in my book! But the 2015 has even greater potential and the 2011 I had a year os so ago was in a better spot maturitywise and remains the best Riesling experience I've had so far.

To be fair, I liked this more than JR did. But neither of us liked it enough to finish the bottle. The yeasty smell was overpowering. JR said it was like unwrapping a fresh cake of yeast and burying your nose in it. i found it less so than he did, and less on the palate than the nose. There was definitely a fine wine going on as well - huge and complex, with great persistence and an enormously long finish, tons of citrus, nice minerality. It was just sadly dominated by this element that smelled mostly like yeast and somewhat like the liquid that tinned hot dogs sit in <shudder>. We put a stopper in and will revisit tomorrow. I've never had a SF GG so young before, so maybe this is part of the usual evolution, and reflects that "sponti" thing that people talk about? Or perhaps even the short drive from the store where we picked is up to our place was enough to shock it? All I know is it didn't smell or taste very good tonight, even after a good amount of air. I'm certainly not ready to dismiss it and hope it will improve, as I have several more.
Addition for Day 2: Bottle was stoppered and in the fridge overnight, then warmed up a bit to around cellar temp. Stopper came out with a decided "pop" so there was some gas build-up for sure. On the nose, not much of an improvement. Still yeasty and unpleasant. In the mouth it was better, with fruit coming a out and showing some texture and depth. Sadly, though, it was still just not fun or interesting to drink. Will put the others away for a few years. I've loved all the other vintages I've had of this wine, so hoping it's just in a bad place.
So tastes the world class. fantastic. German Riesling at its best. Grapefruit, lemon grass, yellow fruit, fire stone and a breath of mint in the nose. On the palate endless citrus fruit with mineral notes and some smoke. I felt the taste the next morning in the mouth. Clear winner of the blind test of best white wines worldwide. I do not know how wine should go better ...

Peachy fruit, some light minerality (though not enough to be unpleasant - I usually don't like very "minerally" wines like N Italian whites...), tons of acidity, some reduction, slight bitterness on the finish. This has a lot of parts, the scaffolding seems all there, and it will certainly improve over time. I enjoyed this much more than the 2011, though for my palate I still prefer the pradikat wines from this producer and vineyard.

Happy Riesling Weekend (Dado Restaurant Düsseldorf): Drank it blind in a flight with 4 other GG from 2014. A phantastic flight with no real winner. Most of them preferred Schäfer-Fröhlich. My favorite was Keller's Hubacker, but three wines 95+ for me.

Not much to add from what others have already noted here. Young and quite restrained at the moment yielding little initially. Day two revealed more. Red apple, stone fruit and distinct minerality. Razor sharp acidity and a snappy finish. Has a long way to go but should be quite impressive given time.

no proper notes - Amazing wine which needs alot of time. quite intense aromas of citrus, green apples, stonefruit, reductive aromas on opening, needed at least 2 hours to start letting go. Tried this wine at a private 2014 GG blindtasting event of 17 different GG Riesling all over germany. All wines were opened 8 hours before and decanted for 3 hours. This was my number one. Still far too young, nose very closed and restrained. Needs more than 5 years to start drinking. It has very big potential of aging. Tasted it again the next day. It was much better. A lot of dark minerality, stone and lime. A tremendous long finish. I was totally overwhelmed.

Another highlight from Tim Fröhlich and quite similar to the Felsenberg, but less expressive, more gracefully built and darker! Minerality forward with some stone fruit, herbs and bacon. Dynamic, salty and of perfect structure. Laser-like precision, immense length with citrus freshness, fine juiciness and herbal spiciness.

Big wine from tiny Bockenau!
Wild flowers, ripe grapefruit, peach, mineral tones.
Richly, subtly, long. Explosion of emotions!

A lot of power, very juicy, refershing acidity and saltieness, still in baby mode, yuzu and grapefruit are dominating notes, give him at least 10 more years, 95+

My favorite was Keller's Hubacker, but three wines 95+ for me.
very reluctant in the nose, very decent in the palate either, but after 20 minutes it developes very nice, shows a refreshing saltieness and freshness, will survive at least 10 years, 95+

This can probably kept, without any danger, for at least 15-20 years. Outstanding quality, 95p with great potential for higher score in future

VDP- presentation at Berlin: as usual the top of S/F! spontaneous fermentation flavours, yeasty, this one a restless undomesticated stallion, somehow uncoherent, enormous still hidden flavours, mineralic bite, spreading the mouth, long++ aftertaste, for the very long run, (*****), (93-96+)
