Coravin fun - European Riesling (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Medium plus intensity aromas show honey, stony fruit, slight custard apple and a little green apple underpin, fresh ripe citrus, Nice nose. Juicy medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, off dry, sugar/acid balance near perfect, beautifully harmonious, flavours of stone fruit, custard apple, slight honey and very slight textured burr. Glorious, wonderful

During a tasting session. Glad to see that my last two bottles of this did well. Excellent aromatics with elder flower, quince, petrol, lemon. Rich and ripe but not sticky. Many Bordeaux drinkers in the room mentioned that this is so much more pleasant to drink than a Sauternes.

[Ryan's Vinum Tasting 12/20/22] Ryan generously brought out another bottle. Honeyed dipped fruits, ripe apricots and stone fruit, tropical fruits on nose. Palate of concentrated dried apricot, mango, stone fruits, pineapple, some hints of vanilla and white flowers, elderflower liqueur. Very fragrant, amazing balancing of acid and sugar, definitely a sweet dessert styling wine. Really tasty! 95

Joy. At once heady and full of sensual delights and at the same time, this had my cranium working in over drive to decipher all that was going on in my glass last night, and there lots to consider. The essence of a perfectly ripe yellow peach holds centerstage, with an abundance of baking spices in orbit that competes quite the Auslese solar system. I think if you isolated the acidity, it would be at a pretty respectable level, but as such, its buried under the wealth of material upstairs but it does its job, this is fresh as a spring daisy. The sweetness is interwoven into the fabric with great skill and care, making this a very versatile pairing partner IMHO. Served with papaya / mango / Persian Cucumbers with savory and sprinkles and Manchego that was marinated in a orange and rosemary infused olive oil with garlic. Joy.

Beautifully aged JJ Prum - I'm a sucker for these aged Rieslings. Tropical fruit notes, pineapple and sweet melons, ripe sweet stone fruit, slight dried grass/hay notes in the back. Great tertiary development with dried pineapples and honey. We brought this bottle home and drank it over an additional 2 days. With additional days, the fruit fades slightly and the honey and light caramel notes accentuate. Not overly sweet, good acid backing for balancing. Easy to drink, a delight! 93-94 pts

The other recent reviews really nail this wine (thank you, because I bought a bottle at auction on the strength of your very accurate notes), so all I will add is that this really gorgeous wine never seems cloying or even 'sweet' so much as it is about purity of beautiful fruit. Absolutely divine.
Medium yellow. A pure beacon of white peach with only moderate sweetness, good acidity, and light slate. JJ-pure elegance and class. Served as an accompaniment to an unsweetened Basque-style cheesecake, but given its balance, it would have been fine with a broad variety of food pairings.

This really is quite youthful and a little four-square upon opening. A lot more nuanced and subtle after a day or three. Great concentration, wonderful acidity, fantastic balance and length. Dried fruit, honey, herbs, flowers, crushed stones and impressive lift and vibrancy towards the finish. Drink or keep. 94-96

We found the wine list sadly lacking this year, but this was a gem. Immense concentration, this is real Riesling-power. Citrus.mineral, stones. Still young, the sugar still not quite integrated, but the acidity is so clean and precise, this works with many dished. If you have it, wait five years. #Brasserie#Trier

Medium yellow-gold, considerably lighter than an '01 GH spatlese that we had alongside it. This wine seemed a bit fat and one-dimensional compared to the '01 WS auslese which I drank several weeks ago, though it is still an excellent wine. Honeyed stone fruit nose with floral and chalky mineral notes. Sweet and mouth-filling, but lacking the vibrant acidity of the very best vintages. Hold.

Still so young. Very reductive. Classic Prum petrol but this one is a little fatter and richer than the 2001. Lots of ripeness and flesh, peach, lemon curd, honey, with decent acidity and a medium long finish. This one needs another decade; should last 4.

from coravin. Medium plus intensity aromas of apple, custard apple, cream, touches of fresh mango and a tiny little hint of smoked bacon. In the mouth it is sweet with juicy acidity to offset, similar fruits on the palate than on the nose, travels long. Very long in fact. still quite youthful. pretty much glorious.

Deep straw. A little petroleum with honey and fresh floral. Orange juice with a touch of zest. Sweet palate with sweet fruit. Rich. Saturated mid palate and great core. Power. Acid backbone wine a long line finish. A wonderful wine aging gracefully.

Covid Lockdown Dinner with 2 friends. Another simply delicious bottle of this wine that opened with a pale yellow colour and a beautiful nose of white peach and nectarine, fresh limes with touches of honey and slate. The palate is intense with sparkling fruit notes and a fine and persistent acid grip balancing a rich sweetness and texture. An exceptional bottle of wine.

Deep yellow in color. Aromas of petrol, apples, ripe peaches, honeysuckle, citrus/floral oils on the nose. Viscosity has begun to emerge on the palate which shows vanilla poached ripe summer orchard pit fruits, good acidity balancing the sweet fruit, a long spicy, honeyed and floral tinged finish. Will only get better.

Mike's Riesling Dinner (The Glasshouse): Really ripe and the sugar is still to the fore, but it is balanced and made a surprisingly great match for pork with apple, black pudding and choucroute.
Delicious blast of pannacotta and stone fruit flavours. Would be fun to follow this still juvenile wine's evolution.

Outstanding Auslese!! Golden color, already has some viscosity to it from aging!! Nose a bit mute in the beginning but has peach, nectarines, kiwi, apples, and some petrol. Palate is outstanding, mouth coating kiwi, peach, tropical fruits, vanilla, excellent balance of sweetness and acidity!! Finish is long. Great Riesling, one of the best

This was in a really great spot. It's a great to think that these wines not only show so well but the depth this has gained with a little age is so nice. This is no longer a pale straw, but more a deep golden yellow. Scents of caramelizing sugar, dried nectarines, and peaches. The palate leads with kiwi, green apple, and caramelized peaches. This is richer and more robust than I remember. This is completely gulp-able!! The bottle has been open for 30 minutes and is 2/3 gone...drink now or enjoy over the next few decades. Lovely!!Medium body, high acidity, med+ fruit, and a long, long finish...that lingers on the palate. Outstanding!!!

The balance of acidity and sweetness is awesome! Citrus fruits (more so grapefruit than orange bit a hint of the later also) and minerality with structure come through. Great viscosity and a finish that goes on! Agree with it still being primordial. Unsure where or when this wine is going...

Cork completely saturated with some mold formed under the capsule but no signs that it had any impact. Still a baby. White peaches, minerals and just a hint of petrol on what is still a pretty closed and austere nose. Much more generous on the palate with lovely sweet peach and pear fruit with a nice spicy ginger note and plenty of balancing acidity. If I weren’t worried about the corks, I would let the rest of my bottles sleep for at least another decade. I think I paid $35 for these on release - is there a better bargain in the wine world?

Slightly disappointed because we mistakenly drank it with poached quince and prune and armagnac ice cream and it didn't stand up. On its own a day after it is very delicate, but has interesting subtle flavours and great length - 60secs at least. I wonder if it is going through a closed period. There are some of the riesling petroleum features, but not as prominent as expected. I'll give it another few years to try another.

Vinetasters: 2001/2005 Joh. Jos. Prüm (Skokie, IL): #14-06, 7% abv. There's almost a slight bit of spiciness on the nose here, but there's a lot of honeyed sweet fruit as well. Clearly sweeter and less overt cut than the 2001, with a bit of a sugared or candied quality here. Mouthwatering acidity helps to balance the fruit, but there's a slight hint of a more roasted character here than the very clean 2001.

AP 14 06. Honestly surprised by how open, fruity, and exhuberant this was. I’m more used to Prüm being more subtle and delicate, but I suppose the vintage had other thoughts. Almost a Willi Schaefer style emphasis on ripe orchard fruits with a hint of mellow botrytis. Well balanced with a beautiful, mineral acidity. This will only continue to get better, but it’s quite open for business right now! 94-95p.

Classic Prüm! A very warm and sweet vintage, this has great concentration, but at least my bottle seemed to lack a bit of acidity. Bought it from a questionable source. Needs time to integrate the sweetness fully, at least 5 to 8 years, if not more. This should age very well!

Quick note from Dr Maxood's - Liquid gold! So lush and rich but nuanced with petrol, flint, honey, flowers, sugar crystals, candied orange rind, but back end acids that will let it age forever.

Great medicine for this Riesling-loving palate, particularly after tasting several monolithic New World wines. Let it breathe for an hour or so after opening. Citrus, tropical, and stone fruit delights abound, backed by positively rippin' acids. The wine changes inflection with each layer, and there are many. Long life ahead of this!

At Noosa. Pale green gold. This wine has a dramatic nose of white peach and nectarine, fresh lime with touches of honey and slate. The palate is intense with sparkling fruit notes and a fine acid grip balancing a quite rich sweetness. It has continued to slowly develop and is a beautiful example. Delicious with fresh seafood.

Similar to the GH but just more of everything. Terrific stone fruit, honeyed peach, petrol and pear nectar. Rich and full, with loads of fruit bolstered by the acidity with a lingering finish. Young. Excellent with seared foie with a peach and blueberry compote.

Medium-light yellow. Nose of flowers, white fruit, minerals. On the palate great acidity buffered with sweetness. This is not as racy as the outstanding 2002 but not far off. I would give it a few more years in the cellar for some of the Petroleum notes to develop.

Popped and poured. This is a medium yellow wine. On the nose, there is solid petrol, some honeycomb, and slight saline. In the mouth, this is delicious and fresh, with concentrated white fruit flavors. The finish is long and slowly fading with honey tones throughout. Overall, the wine is enjoyable and balanced -- it would fine with several more years, but is drinkable now. 93 points.

On first pour the nose is limey and chalky. With time much richer and more tropical. It’s full of sweet fruit and luscious yet very fresh from the great acidity. Very impressive length through the palate. Great purity of flavour with flavours of red apple and mango. Laser fresh with almost has a lightness at some points. Superb. Still a baby.

Very sweet, probably 110-120 Oechsel, would qualify as a gold cap in other less sweet vintages. The 2005 is a perfect auslese-year, where many growers obtained high levels of sugar. Prüm is in my book at the absolut top, together with Fritz Haag, at least in middle-mosel. In Saar obviously Egon Müller is king. This wine is fairly undeveloped, with lots of primary aromas. The petroleum nose has not arrived yet, but it will. Lots of tropial fruit, candied pineapple, etc. Acidity is peeking through the lush fruit and it has shed its baby fat. Very good balance and great with cheese! This will develop into something very big (given 10-20 years)!

Fabulous. No petrol yet, lots of tropical and orchard fruit. The more you pay attention the more layers it reveals. Riveting minerality. Served with Bobby Flay's faux bbq shrimp recipe: http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/peel-and-eat-shrimp-with-barbecue-spices. That's a fine pairing and a great recipe, especially if you have no access to an outdoor grill.

An absolutely beautiful bottle of wine. Decanted about 30 minutes prior to dinner. No petrol notes tonight, lovely white fruit, slate on the nose, honeysuckle. It took a good 10 minutes before I could pry my nose out of the glass to give it a taste. Lively and balanced still showing plenty of youth, but additional complexity is showing through. I was thoroughly impressed with how this wine showed tonight. My last bottle 1+ years ago was in an odd place and came across very flat. Not so tonight. I couldn't have asked for more.
Pop and pour. The usual matchstick/brimstone nose of Pruem. Strangely sweet without too much of an acidic backbone, but this bottle had good mineral character.

OC4PokerXIV: Alsace vs Germany (and dinner) (Wine Cellar Club, Irvine, CA): PnP served non-blind at a CT offline. Youthful in appearance, but rather subdued on the nose and palate. This is probably my fourth or fifth time with this wine and I'd have to say it was the poorest (ok, the ONLY poor/mediocre showing) yet. It's almost as if it is in some kind of phase. Not fully integrated, with shades of greatness remaining rather recessed over the course of the two hours it was open. Either way, I will let my remaining bottles rest for at least another 5-10 years, prolly more. My gut feeling tells me it's just an off bottle, others have been so undeniably superb.

Aerated 1 hr, served blind. Medium straw toward gold. I haven't tasted this since release, and as I recall, it hasn't changed very much. I won't get into the aromas and flavors except to say that this is on a stunning trajectory, with an absolutely brilliant future. Everyone at the table was humbled by the focus, delicacy and sheer genius of this offering; most guessed Spätlese. 4 bottles left that I will try and keep my hands off for another 5-10 years, at least. 7,0% abv, drink thru 2029+

The Usual Suspects (with photos) (Fiddler's Green): A pale straw/light yellow in the glass with a glorious nose of pear, star fruit, yellow apples, and sugarcane. In the mouth there is an explosion of flavors as candied green apples, dehydrated pineapple, pears, lemon, lime, and minerals play out along a long 45+ second finish that has beautiful balance and gripping acidity. City Line Church Wine Tasting 2009 (White Stone Gallery, Manayunk (Philadelphia, PA)): Opened a few hours prior to tasting. Still a bit of sulfur that had not blown off. The nose showed honey, peach, apple, slate, and sprite. Palate dominated by a sweet peach flavor, with a little sweet red apple. The finish goes on for a long, long time as you lick your lips. Sweet, but well balanced with a surprisingly high level of acid to prevent the sweetness from becoming cloying. My WOTN, and consistent with my past notes. A beautiful wine.

Very good. Could use some more acidity, though. After waiting for the initial petrol to blow off, this exhibits a nice sweet nose of apricot, honey and honey suckle. While this lacks density at times, it has a nice delicate feel on the palate and a nice sweet finish.

12 hour decant, but still initially dominated by the classic prum sulfur on the nose -- this is far too young. once that blew off, lovely nose and palate of ripe peach, honey, and pear -- maybe a hint of citrus. Very sweet, but there is acidity hiding there as well -- a little more would make this even better. Finish goes on and on and on... 30 seconds. Will only improve.

Tyee brought a bottle of the #16 to dinner at the home of one of Pinot Envy's friends in Napa. The setting could not have been better. We drank it on the deck of their house halfway up a Mountain on the West side of the valley watching the Sun set. This was the best German Riesling I had on the trip (and there were some good ones). Pure and clean. Balanced acidity with focus fruit flavors. Full bodied and moderately sweet + but not a dessert wine. Deep minerality with notes of slate, peach pit and citrus. Pinot Cafe: EWG. Only notes: “Fresh ripe fruit”-- which doesn’t do anyone much good. It seemed very classic, pure, and well blanced, but I didn’t pick up on any special qualities in this, especially being a GKA. Beyond that I need some help with notes on this one. Please chime in. I really liked this, though, and remember enjoying it much with the cheese plate.

This started off slightly simple and not seeming very sweet for an auslese. After about a 1/2 hour it burst forward with teeth-coating intensity, sweetness, and powerful acidity. The predominant flavor is stone-fruit, like sucking on the pit of an apricot. This is a baby that will grow up to be a big big wine. Otis's comment was "you have a Goldkap of this?" It's hard to believe there's a more intense version out there.

By far, the most powerful auslese I have ever tried. So much grip, it felt like an undertow was flowing in my mouth and my back molars were being pulled forward. A fascinating taste experience. If you are holding more than a few, try one now to get a sense of its incredible muscle tone, but otherwise this is a wine to bury in the cellar for 5+ years.

Without a doubt, the most impressive young auslese I have ever tasted. Enormously rich, thick and concentrated with juicy apple, pear, green grape fruit Interestingly, the more you drink, the sweeter it tastes, but I think the acidity is in the background just now. Could there be some BA juice in here? No sulfur stink or gas in this baby Prum. This could be a dessert wine now with a light pastry.

A very warm and sweet vintage, this has great concentration, but at least my bottle seemed to lack a bit of acidity. Bought it from a questionable source.
Needs time to integrate the sweetness fully, at least 5 to 8 years, if not more. This should age very well!

Beautiful peach, appricot, orange with floral notes and nice acidity to offset the sweetness in the wine.

4Bs Latitudes: pineapple butter nose. nice sweetness without being too much, good acidity, and acid. some nuttiness on the mid palate and a nice long finish. this rocked tonight. ( I cant remember if I've ever thought a riesling was the white of the night- even in a riesling tasting)

4BOW (Latitude 8 Thai Grill): Pears, melon and wheat. Full bodied with a very rich mouth feel. Very well balanced with vibrant acidity. Power and complex finish that lasts for over a minute. Significantly better than the last bottle I tried. AP#25765111406. 7% alcohol.

Had a 375ml under better tasting conditions. super light straw color, almost looks like water. lush sweet white fruits on the palate and a generous lingering fruit filled finish. this is subtle but really nice.

Long finish. 95-96 points.

Infanticide, you can tell there is a lot there, but it's just not ready to reveal itself. This should improve significantly of the next decade +.

A perfect complement to Thai food at Palms in Hollywood. Light straw color, but lacking in the richness I was expecting from an 05 W-S Auslese. Very light elegant style with lots of light pear, apricot, lime. 7% EtOH. Will look for another bottle.
