A lot of PS in the nose and Alicante in the finish. A pretty muscular zin that overwhelms most dishes, including burgers. Fun but not your usual zinfandel

A Ridge Tahoe Weekend; 6/29/2023-7/2/2023 (Edgewood Resort): Drinks really quite well and even when I came back after the 05 Lytton (which was clearly the winner of this flight) this was still drinking quite nicely. Darker fruits. Pepper. Raspberry. There’s this kind of tension in the wine between the dark and almost brooding and brightness. I suspect this is a wine that would benefit from some additional age. The years it already has look good on it. From vines that were originally planted in the 1890’s and then filled in post prohibition. Very enjoyable.

Crimson in color. 15% ABV. 83% Zinfandel, 10% Alicante Bouschet and 7% Petite Sirah. Sublime nose of red fruits, anise, cocoa and pepper. Medium to full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Packed with bright, juicy red fruits. Cherry, raspberry, spiced plums and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Very drinkable Ridge Pagani but not on par with recent vintages including the 18-20. Best over the next several years.

From Coravin. Dusty slightly woody spices, plums, herbaceous notes, a little almost peppery underpin and red berry underpin. Herbaceous notes grow with time. In the mouth there is an initial herbaceous splash then wonderful ripe but fresh and fleshy plums backed by alcohol warmth and talc textured tannins. Yum.

Raspberry and plum jam on the nose, with some sweet spices. Also fairly prominent vanilla from the oak. Palate remains quite fruity, but acid and tannin are in good balance. Medium length finish with slight alcohol burn.

2015 Pagani Bedrock & Ridge; 2/4/2022-2/5/2022 (At the house of dear friends): Last tasted this vintage in November of 2019. This bottle was decanted for 1.5 hours. It is good, but in a head to head blind tasting with the 2015 Bedrock Pagani, it wasn't as good as the Bedrock. This wine has the same flavor characteristics as the Bedrock, it was just that the Bedrock offered the flavors with more intensity and with a greater flair.
Interestingly, this wine (Ridge) was preferred upon initial tasting, but then preferences shifted to the Bedrock as both wines opened up.

Glad we waited to try the next bottle - P'n'P, served with pasta and meat sauce (wasn't the best pairing, but who cares...it's a pandemic).
Blackberry, blueberry, a little chocolate, some oak and vanilla, then hint of herbaceous notes with firm acidity and nice mouthfeel, medium-long finish, really nice!

Quick decant, a big nose of dark fruit, prune, underbrush. The palate is quite tart, with a bigger bite than a normal zin, the alicante bouschet makes itself known in how the acidity presents. The tannins are relatively quiet but still present. A little sweet in the right way with a superlative mouthfeel, this is an excellent Ridge blend.

Opened, poured into a decanter, and swirled to give it some air. Poured into a glass and enjoyed. Dark purple color. Noise offers blackberries and a hint of oak. Some slight prune note as well. Rich, concentrated wine, with dark fruits berries and plum - touch of violet and some herbs. Fairly big and bold but with good acidity to help carry the richness. Nice round mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Yes, very port-like. Can you imagine what it would have been like if they didn't add 4.3% water? For such a hot, drought filled year, to let this go to the end of September for harvest is a treat, but alas, this treat was treated to too much new oak. It's pretty distasteful, but quality.
If you like big vanilla in your wine then this is the sucka fo you!
Well, waddaya know, this is growing on me. It's kinda like a candy. It's interesting, sweet, but I still can't stand the nose with all that vanilla. It's a quality chocolate port. Dense, rich, tastes authentic, perfect tannins, touches of spice, texture of big unctuous vanilla, chocolate blackberry ripe tar. The oak must have had a good char on it to give this smoke and black. It actually works. As it opens it becomes more enjoyable, or is that the 15%ABV talking?
Purchased directly from the winery, club purchase upon release. Ridge in Santa Cruz Mountains up Monte Bello Road is just a precious trip, one that will indelibly mark your life with a fantastic experience of views of all of Silicone Valley, SF, Oakland, Mt. Diablo and if you go to the other side of the tasting building to look west you will see the vineyards of Rhys Skyline Vineyard. Rhys is an absolute must try for Burgundy lovers, but I prefer their small production of Syrah.
This bottle was temperature controlled stored since purchase, moved around from locker to fridge twice, then finally 3 weeks ago made the trip to my home from the art studio. The bottle had caked stains on the inside from the sediment. Almost the whole bottle had been covered with that film rendering it with the appearance of cloudiness although it had fully settled. The sediment smoke did not show until about a full glass was left in the bottle.
Oh, that I could go back to 2015 to experience LBC! (Life Before Covid)

Nose of red fruit and spice. Tastes of ripe raspberry, ripe cranberry, blackberry and licorice. Vibrant acidity throughout. Mild tannins. The volume is loud on this one, but all the components are in balance. Went well with short ribs. Enjoyed at Parson's Table Little River NC with Lisa, Claire and Chris.

This is my first bottle of the 2015, a blend of 83% Zin, 10% Alicante Bouschet, and 7% Petite SirahJust as last year we pulled a ‘11 Pagani as a 2nd bottle for dinner, we pulled this as a 2nd bottle after the Carlisle Carlisle Vnd Zin. We may not be pulling it first, but Ridge Pagani is not a “second best” ... ever! We love our Pagani. Just ast the ‘11 was very different from the Lagier-Meredith Tribidrag 2011, this is very different from the Carlisle 2015! This is brighter and a bit jammier with a sweetness from the fruit and without the earthiness that the Carlisle displays. The wines are simply different; not necessarily better than the other. However, we both preferred the Carlisle’s finesse. At only 5 years of age, both wines are probably too young, but they are both approachable. The Ridge shows as a dark plum-to-purple wine with Zin funk, brown sugar, cinnamon, boysenberry and vanilla leaping and scampering. Definite Draper perfume; it’s a more effusive wine than the Carlisle. Plum, and brown sugar (but less so) with more herbaceous (rosemary?) notes. The mouthfeel is more complete and put together than the Ridge. The finish is longer and silkier. A shadow of sediment on the shoulder and neck of the Ridge but none on the Carlisle. Both wines clock in at 15% alc. Yes, we fell asleep in our chairs with the TV on. With rubbed, oven-roasted-grill-finished pork ribs for Independence Day, both a delicious recipe and a delicious pairing. Recommended.

Enjoyable to drink if you like a massively fruit forward wine. We all enjoyed but all agreed on the strong fruitful characteristics. Still, everything in place more or less. Would be interesting to see how it develops after it loses its primary characters.

Opened and let sit in bottle for 2 hours. Beautiful ruby color and on the nose I get plum and currants with some spice. I taste Plum and raspberry. Strong vanilla and some spice. Good wine. There is a bit of heat at the end from the high alcohol but it still has the Ridge finesse i love.

At pizza from scratch Friday night. Deep, almost completely opaque crimson/ruby. Raspberry, blackberry, with some cherry sneaking in the nose. Initial acid on the palate dissipated after a bit. Not much tannin to speak off. Jane's pizza did better than the wine.

Deep and beautiful color. Plum and blackberries dominate the palate, and while a bit tannic initially, the tannins mellowed our over the next couple hours - perhaps a bit young. Overall this was a very good wine that I can only imagine will improve over the next couple years.

Drinking this on a pleasant Friday night. This is a great dessert wine. Sweet. And what everybody else said too. But seriously, this is so sweet and so American palette that I have a hard time getting on board with it. Great floral notes but I would really only serve this to friends as a dessert pairing.
I wasn’t crazy about this one. Night one, there was initial dark fruit, but then fairly strong earthy and vegetal flavors on the palate. Night 2, there was an emergence of prune on the palate that overwhelmed the dark fruit and spice. Won’t buy again

Strong red raspberry on the nose. Red fruit, continued raspberry and cherry particularly, and creme brulee on the palate. Off-dry and medium to low tannins. Vegetal thread running through it, too, maybe red bell pepper in both nose and on palate.

Coravin fun - Ridge range; 1/15/2020-1/17/2020 (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of wet plums, a little cherry, woody spice, alcohol warmth, a touch of cedar. Juicy, fresh acid, plum complete, talc textured tannins, woody spices and alcohol heat (non-intrusive) help carry the finish. totally different to my recollection of this wine. Rather nice.

Encorpado, estruturado, macio, persistente.
Ganhou o duelo no photochart.

From Coravin. Medium plus intensity aromas of herbaceousness, peppery spice, sour plum, clay. In the mouth it's more of the same with alcohol heat lending weight to the peppery spice. Gritty tannins close down the palate and the fruit is sour in an Umeboshi plum way. There is a kind of unripe stalk quality here that reminds me of home made whole bunch. Hmm.

It was good, but it followed a Tensley syrah which was bigger, bolder and better. We were pleasantly surprised at the lightness of this wine. We did not get the fairly typical zinfandel jamminess. What we got was a nice blend of reddish to purple fruit flavors that just did not seem like they had hit their stride yet. I suspect more time in the bottles will benefit this wine. I have two more bottles. I'm going to attempt to wait a year between each of them.

A touch of volatility on the nose. More than a hint. Wild brambly fruit of course. Solid note of new wood at the finish. Doesn't have a ton of expression throughout. A good forward Zin without having that blockbuster extraction. Probably not the best vintage for this wine.

Deep purple with hints of white pepper, coffee, prune and tobacco on the nose. Pepper continues on palate along with black cherry/dark fruit flavors. Medium-plus body, acidity and finish. Drinking big at the moment and will benefit from some age. Would also suggest decanting - P&P at this point and alcohol is notable, though not overwhelming.

Pushing the envelope with the ripeness. But there is just enough depth and acid to keep it from spinning out of control. Drank more balanced on night two. I'm not as high on it as other tasters seem to be but I do look forward on checking in with it later this year to see where it's going.

Deep dark garnet in color; almost opaque. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plummy with overtones of briary notes, pepper, spices, herbs, minerals & some vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & still youthful textured, jammy, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries and blueberries with spices, herbs, minerals, some cocoa & a hint of vanilla. Long lingering finish with a slight touch of heat. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but has the fruit and structure to continue development with several additional more years of necessary aging. Quick decant, a big nose of dark fruit, prune, underbrush. The palate is quite tart, with a bigger bite than a normal zin, the alicante bouschet makes itself known in how the acidity presents.

Strong red raspberry on the nose. Red fruit, continued raspberry and cherry particularly, and creme brulee on the palate. Off-dry and medium to low tannins. Vegetal thread running through it, too, maybe red bell pepper in both nose and on palate.

Encorpado, estruturado, macio, persistente.
Ganhou o duelo no photochart.
