  • Bjørnebær, kirsebær, markjordbær, lakris og litt lær. Myk kjøttfull frukt myk sødme/syre struktur. Veldig avslipte taniner, men fortsatt kraft igjen. Nydelig til pannestekt biff og bakt potet, og god i glasset etterpå uten å snerpe.

  • Medium garnet/brick - ripe summer fruit pudding, spices, prunes, dried figues, smoke, game, leather. Med+ acidity, med- ripe tannins, med+ alcohol, full body, long finish. Outstanding quality, this is drinking beautifully now with lovely mix of primary and tertiary elements. No doubt it will continue to develop - but really up to you depending on how you like your Musar.

  • Agh what a disappointment. It's inconsistent this wine, to be sure. It's got the classic Musar crazy nose of everything. All the things - blood, iron, spices. Madness. But it's oddly watery and sort of dying. Far inferior to the 2012 but also to the many other 2010s I've had. I'm hoping this was just a dud bottle. The good ones are very good and should last until 2030 easily.

Side note: the Wine society first offered Musar to the nation in 1973, and it was the 1967 vintage.

  • Fine sweet aroma, slight hint of spice, then cedar and squashed blueberries. Then on the tongue, complexity, dates then raisin, a dryness and then a long hit of chilli heat and tannis with some dry leather grip, but quite soft not aggressive. Finish is v long, more spice, toasted tobacco and soft fruit, raspberry not strawberry. Can age more I think, get deeper tannins and softer.

  • Popped and poured, medium garnet, clear meniscus. Aromas of red berries, plummy fruits, celery salt and funky brettanomyces (more bandaid than barnyard). Moderate body, plus acidity. On the palate, a slight prickle blows off quickly and is accompanied by red fruits plus substantial brett...almost overwhelming, even. Decent length on the close, tannins are still slightly chalky but have smoothed out quite nicely, if not elegantly.

Quick commentary: this is bottle 3 from a 6 pack purchased on release and stored properly; although it's certainly rounded out into a more elegant wine, the brett is concerning (although that said, I may simply be far less tolerant of brett than I once was).

  • Gjennomsiktig rubin. Modnet, dempet brunlig murstein.

Lær, lakris, naturvinsyre (snev av vineddik/balsamico).

Herlig frukt. Virkelig struktur igjen - holder lengre. Tydelig pipetobakk. Jordlig. Lær. Røyk. God fruktsødme og konsentrasjon. Fin syre, vann i munnen.

Luftet i karaffel og drukket over fire timer.

  • A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsaut, one third of each. The vintage 2010 in Beqaa was very dry to boot with very little snow or rain during January and February. Very promising spring was followed by a 3-week heat wave starting in mid-July, reaching peak temperatures of 48,5°C, causing the vines to shut and drying the grapes on the vine. Carignan and Cinsaut survived the heat wave quite well, but Cabernet Sauvignon was badly affected, making the harvest very small in part of very limited quantities of high-quality Cabernet grapes. Fermented spontaneously in concrete, aged in oak barrels for a year. Blended together in 2012, left to marry for a year and bottled in 2013. 2010 Musar was made in very limited quantity due to the small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon available. 13,5% alcohol, 2 g/l residual sugar and 6,3 g/l acidity. Aerated in a decanter for four hours before tasting the wine.

Deep, luminous and slightly evolved black cherry color. The nose feels cool yet somewhat sweet-toned with juicy aromas of ripe black cherries, some fragrant floral tones, a little bit of lifted nail polish character, light brambly notes of blackberries, a hint of sweet dark forest fruits and a touch of exotic spices. The wine feels silky yet firm and very intense on the palate with a medium-to-moderately full body and slightly evolved flavors of ripe black cherries and tobacco, some wizened dark berry tones, a little bit of earth, light ferrous notes of blood, a leathery hint of bretty funk and a touch of sour cherry bitterness. Despite the silky smooth mouthfeel, the wine packs quite a bit of structure with its high acidity and still relatively assertive and moderately grippy tannins. The finish is long, savory and quite grippy with an intense aftertaste of wizened dark forest fruits, some tobacco, a little bit of ripe strawberry, light raisiny tones, a hint of earth and a touch of exotic spices.

After a noticeably more lifted - even slightly acetic - bottle in 2020, this was a return to the form. When I tasted the wine for the first time in late 2019, I thought it seemed very structure-driven and promising, but also still very backward. Now, 4½ years later, the wine seems like it hasn't evolved that much - maybe showing a bit more dried-fruit character than before - but has opened up nicely, coming across as a bit more expressive while retaining that wonderful intensity of dark-toned fruit. Although the wine is in a great spot right now, I have no doubts it will at least keep - if not improve - for a great deal of years more. This still remains my favorite of the 2010's Musars thus far. Superb value at 41,95€.

  • A great vintage for Musar and this one drank wonderfully, best Musar I've ever had. Tastes like an exotic Bordeaux. Wild black raspberries, orange peel, prune, raisin, fig, exotic spices. So much going on in this wine.

  • Oh my days what a wine. Sensationally complex - as we all know. Crazy compendium of overripe/fermenting fruit - prunes and plums and figs - and odder things like carob and liquorice. All the spices that you want: cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, star anise, mace, Szechuan pepper, aniseed. And then old leather and pipe tobacco and sizzling bacon fat. Strange dark rooms in abandoned houses, rutting farm animals in the summer sun, wild forest mammals large and small, blood, iron, sweat... All the mysteries. Such a phenomenal wine always.

  • Fully mature, but the tannins were still fully present and standing firm. I would have blind tasted this as a 20-30 year old left Bordeaux from a non-famed vintage, but how cool it was to show great old world characteristics and complexity from Lebanon. Not overfly familiar with wines of this region, but fun to try. I would guess properly stored bottles have a lot of life left.

  • At Boston Wine & Poker, Needham, Mass, Sept. 18, tasted blind:

High-toned and intense, with some heat. I had no idea what it was.

We tasted this alongside the 2001 -- both could use more time, this one especially (of course).

  • 1+ hours in the decanter. Deep ruby silk in the glass. Medicinal aniseed spice on the nose. Ripe fruit, dried sour cherries but with somehow a sweetness. Complex with lots going on but at the same time feels youthful still lots of tannins despite being 12 years old. Interesting and enjoyable. 1 of 6. Looking forward to the rest but will wait.

  • Mørk rubin. Frisk rødfarge - ikke oransje toner.

Lakris, mørke modne kirsebær, lær, eik og vanilje. Fyldig men samtidig frisk. Veldig fin og kompleks nese!

God konsentrasjon. Mye tørrstoff som er blitt avslepet. Frisk syre. Vann i munnen! Lang. Syren tar overhånd når frukten demper seg etter et par timer.

Ung frukt fremdeles! Balansert. Holder flere år til denne.

  • One of the weaker versions of Musar I have had. Yes it is still youngish but at 11 years old one does get near full development but there is little weight or structure here. A nice currant/raisiny fruit but all too easy, two dimensional and rather short. As with the 2013 there was an irritating spritz running through it which did not help. I cannot see how this can put weight and structure on and I hope this is not a modern change of style.

  • Medium garnet/brick - ripe summer fruit pudding, spices, prunes, dried figues, smoke, earth. Developing. Med+ acidity, med- ripe tannins, med+ alcohol, full body, long finish. Half bottle, drinking very well now, nice balance of primary and tertiary, but still time ahead of it. Outstanding.

  • From magnum. Sweet fruit, exotic spices, slightly creamy, notes of tobacco and hints of VA on the nose. Lots of acidity on the palate, spicy, grippy, sweet fruit. Nicely balanced overall, good length. 90-92

  • Same as 3/12 except when drunk over 2 nights 2d night bordered on sink wine ... quite tannic with loss of aromatics. I wish I'd drunk all these young. If you are holding any, suggest drinking in a single night with a 1 hour decant. Each of us decides timing and holding but my new belief is tannins are dominant in this wine. What this means is the risk of holding increases in time, could turn out stellar in 5+ years or a flame out. I lack the patience, probably time, to wait. It's enjoyable now. I'm not going to post any more reviews because nothing is likely to change for some time.

5/5 Drank up remaining bottles given no expectation the CO2 spritziness would dissipate with time, or tannins would come into bound. The tannins issue is one I've encountered with 30 year old Bordeaux. In this case I admit it is a matter of judgment. Given the spritzy wine, I moved on.

  • Moden frukt, krydder, litt lær. Fine, avslepne tanniner. God lengde. Betydelig mer moden enn 2011 på vanlig flaske drukket dagen før.

  • Zoom tasting of Musar wines, hosted by Auriol Wine, Hampshire, UK with wines introduced by Elliott O'Mara of Chateau Musar UK. The second of three vintages in the tasting, the others being 2014 and 1998. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, cinsault and carignan. Dark plum colour. Menthol nose, spicy, oranges. Rich and full palate. Appearing very fresh and young, despite 11 years from the vintage, but typical of Musar which needs a long time in bottle to reach its peak. Leather, saddle, slight sweetness of fruit. Very good.

  • 6 months since last bottle, and I will revise this note if tomorrow adds anything after overnight in Argon (concern it may be unusable).

I like this wine although I'm always looking for and not finding "more", seeking the quintessential experience that seems always hiding, tonight no different. The spritziness of past bottles was present in this one, wild fruit aromas jumping out of the bottle, color a bit darker than previous, significant sediment. This is a medium to full bodied wine but not one of middle palate richness, little heft in flavor, not surprising for age but without ethereal lasting flavors of bottle development. Fruit ... cranberry and cherry. Readers are better describers of the nose than I so I leave it to you. Average finish. It's still a keeper but my patience is being tried. I left a 92 score of 6 months ago although it is a bit less now and this bottle was well stored. Cheers.

  • After reading Forceberry's review I became concerned, finally opening a bottle. From initial impressions became much more concerned as in 'what the hell is going on?'. With time the wine opened up and displayed richness, this bottle missing the VA of previous ones. At this age it is quite enjoyable. However, the initial impression coupled with high acid (subdued now) mean it has more miles to go to reach its potential. I believe it is less of a stellar wine than I believed a couple years ago but I still like it very much, in line with a 92-93 point score although this is not the time. I'm still pleased I still own 10 bottles.

  • Social distancing blind tasting: Tasted blind. I got red plums, leather, "stoner's garage" and some band-aid, although that blew off. Bright acidity on the palate, tannins showing dusty grip. The sour plum fruit mixes with loads of menthol, rocky soil, grilled herbs, tar and a bit of tinny, tomato sauce tones. A friend threw out Musar, but I was convinced this was an early 2000s Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet - probably because the friend who contributed it might've thrown such a wine in. It really got more expressive with time and I found it really enjoyable.

Decanted for a few hours before tasting the wine.

Deep, somewhat developed and slightly translucent blackish-red color with subtle maroon highlights. The nose of complex, somewhat sweet-toned and more volatile than previously (last sampled a year ago) with aromas of wizened dark berries and dried figs, some lifted notes of nail polish, a little bit of savory meatiness, light notes of exotic spices, sweet hints of ripe red plums and even some raisiny fruit and a touch of acetic VA. The wine is ripe, juicy and moderately volatile on the palate with a quite full body and intense flavors of sweet black cherries, some wizened dark fruits, light earthy notes, a little bit of fresh blackcurrant, lifted hints of nail polish and balsamic VA and a funky touch of leather. The wine is rather structured and surprisingly tightly-knit with its high acidity and quite assertive, firm tannins. The finish is juicy, long and quite tannic with intense flavors of ripe blackcurrants, some pruney dark fruit, light iron notes of blood, a little bit of meaty umami and game, a hint of dried dates and a lifted touch of balsamic VA.

Just like the previous time, this vintage came across as still very youthful and rather tightly-knit in style, feeling almost too young for current enjoyment. However, compared to my previous experience with this vintage, this bottle came across as somewhat more volatile, having more pronounced notes of lifted nail polish character and the balsamic notes at times coming across even as slightly acetic, not just rich and savory. I wonder if there is just some bottle variation (definitely not unheard-of when it comes to Ch. Musar) or if this vintage is slowly turning into that direction? Although I still loved the structure-driven style here, the heavier emphasis on the VA made this wine feel slightly less impressive than previously. I need to keep a close eye on this one, since initially this felt a very promising vintage that is really built for the long haul, but I might need to re-evaluate my assessment if the wine is starting to take a turn to a more lifted, volatile style. Nevertheless, at 41,95€ this wine is a great purchase for the price.

  • For the longest time, Musar was Lebanon as far as fine wine was concerned. The Hochar family put the industry on the map in the finest Europeans restaurants and cellars almost a century ago. Even today, its iconic blend and focus on tradition and lengthy pre-release in-bottle aging (4 to 6 years) give it a unique flavor profile and bring an "in-the-know" smile to tasters' face. Outstanding, in what was a difficult year for the country's winemakers

  • This is an above average Musar.

It may well improve with further bottle age.

A little tart but it has good fruit and some length.

Likely I will have another in 2 to 3 years.

  • The wine’s color was a bit off; “oil” puddle on the surface. Maybe related to secondary fermentation...who knows.

It didn’t, however, otherwise affect the appreciation of the wine.

Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, fig and violet. On the palate, more on the tart red fruit spectrum: cranberries, strawberry

  • My first bottle of Musar so was disappointed to find as others have experienced what I consider a flawed wine, still fermenting in bottle, left for a couple of hours so it would level out a bit and drank some but not really enjoyable and difficult to have an opinion on that one flawed bottle, though from the notes here it appears it is a fairly common fault.

  • Dark burgundy. Medium-minus body
Cherries, faint hints of cigar box, fruit leather, slight herbaceous
Dry, tannin is evident, but nicely balanced. Medium finish. Drinks like a 'bigger wine' without the heft. Lots going on with this wine. Taste follows the nose. Silky undertones give a glimpse of where this will go in the coming years. Approachable now, and worth buying in bulk to store what will no doubt be a long beautiful future. This is excellent wine at a fantastic price. Get a lot!

  • I drank a couple bottles before buying, then returned and bought all in the store, ended up with 15 bottles. The initial bottles were from a special ordered case, remaining dribbled in. The initial note was from a good bottle, subsequent from bottles without best storage. I didn't know this. Last couple threw considerable sediment, corks in question although wine quite pleasurable. This bottle was from the initial 11. It is significantly more backward (and I will wait on the rest), terrific nose, dark(er), much more tannin in evidence, excellent balance. The cranberry notes are there but the fruit is a deeper red ... cherries. In my view this is a stunning wine. Just when I was a little disappointed, thinking of drinking more earlier, this surprise has caused a rethink. There is significant future potential, maybe better than 94 depending on how it develops further in the bottle.

1/1/20 drinking 2d half. Nothing to change above except to note I now understand there is a long way to go for full enjoyment. This is very nice but still younger than I thought.

  • Regular dinner group. Many wines based on the book “1001 wines you must try before you die”. (By EM @ Bottles): In the bouquet smoke and toast. On the palate dark berries, tar, asphalt, toast and bitterness. Good acidity. Definitely a good wine, but not really my taste. No score.

  • Drank this over 2 nights, last bottle 1 year ago. Color is crimson, medium body. At pouring ½ the bottle to a decanter aromas seemed to jump out of the flow, powerful. The dominant berry aroma was very ripe cranberry. Acid level still fairly high, tannin in background, more evident on 2d half. I have many bottles. Stay tuned for October 2020. This wine still hold enormous promise although the palette of flavors is unlike any red of my experience. I continue to be intrigued and excited about future bottles. The bottles I own have been cellared at 55 and fills are high. Read the entry by Zhang of "dark fruit" and accompanying flavors. Also don't understand the "sweetness"; my bottles have not been "sweet". Frankly do not understand the difference between ZMAG’s note and what I drank in last years. All I can do is report. I did experience the same effervescence previously reported ... slightly 'spritzy' until opening. This was true at one time of Cuvaison chardonnays.

Decanted for a few hours before tasting the wine.

Deep, concentrated and somewhat opaque black cherry color. Savory, dusty and somewhat restrained nose with dark-toned aromas of wizened forest fruits and some dried figs, a little bit of crunchy chokeberry, light lifted notes of balsamic VA, a herbaceous hint of leafy greenness and a touch of sweet exotic spices. The nose seemed to slowly open in the glass, but overall this wine feels like it really needs air to open up properly. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and quite tightly-knit on the palate with flavors of ripe black raspberries, fresh red plums, some leathery funk, a little bit of wild strawberry, light autumnal notes of earth and leaves, a sanguine hint of iron and a lifted touch of nail polish VA. The wine is impressively structured - even for a Musar - with its high acidity and quite assertive, grippy tannins. The finish is firm, juicy and lengthy with long flavors of sunny dark fruits, sour cherry bitterness, some wizened forest fruits, a little bit of blood, light brambly notes of raspberries, a hint of leather and a touch of dried figs.

A very beautiful, attractive and noticeably tightly-knit vintage of Musar that shows those slightly lifted and funky undertones typical of the winery, but also remarkably fresh, savory and structure-driven character for such a hot vintage. Although Musar is supposed to be released from the winery only when the wine is deemed "ready" and this 2010 was a late release (released after the softer 2011 vintage) this is still a remarkably backward effort that feels less accessible than the surrounding vintages. This vintage is definitely for cellar, not for immediate consumption. Some people might find the fruitier and more approachable vintages more enjoyable, but for me this is hands down one of the greatest recent vintages of Musar. Definitely a wine for the long haul. Absolutely terrific value at 41,95€.

  • Slightly funky nose, fruit and spice, very smooth and a big hit with the entire table. First bottle was decanted for 20 min, the second bottle poured into the decanter and served. The air helps, but excellent either way.

  • Deep garnet on opening. Initially somewhat tart that mostly disappeared after 3 hours. Leaving behind a dusty berry fruit with some cherry.

  • Very interesting Musar. Drank from a 375ml bottle.
    Cigar box and blackberries!
Fantastic stuff. Decanted for 2 hours, and was still developing after we finished the bottle. Can easily see this going another 10 years in bottle easy.

  • Really interesting red fruited high toned nose. Palate was fine, acidic, polished. Nice fruit character with fine tannins on the back end. Unique expression, quite enjoyable now with a decant. Moderate weight and very fresh.

  • Plum Market Luxury Tasting (Bad Hunter - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting, brief note. Ripe, rich and gamy aromas, then similar flavors, but slightly brighter. Finishes dense and ripe. An unusual blend for Musar, lacking its typical Cabernet dominance. Good potential.

  • Plum Market Spring Wine Extravaganza (Chicago, IL): Slightly volatile nose, with some ripe black fruit as well. Good overall density on the palate; the funky animale qualities do seem to show up here. Can definitely pick up some spice from the Rhone grapes.

  • Restaurant pop and pour. A really rich, ripe and full bodied Musar with black and blue fruits dominating over red. Sweet tannins, tobacco leaf, leather, dark earth. So much potential but drinking well in its youth. 13.5% abv.

  • Fortsatt i utvikling, men allerede en flott og allsidig vin. En fordel å sile/dekanteres.

  • (at Sachet - Dallas)
I liked this a lot. The Cabernet fruit was a bit candied but the palate was lively with good impact. Should drink well for many years. (89)

  • Medium ruby, youthful; medium to medium-plus intensity, iron, rose petals, slight soy, black cherry; medium bodied, medium alcohol, medium acidity, a bit of almost youthful carbonation that will blow off quickly, fresh, full of vibrant black cherry; finish is medium length. This needs a lot of time to meld together and develop even more complexity, but it's promising even now. This is a unique wine with real character. I'll follow this over a few days. 91
5 hours decanting: Definitely integrating together a bit better than when first opened, and now no longer has that slight carbonation thing. Still has complex savory fruit on the nose, at least medium-plus acid on the palate (which was surprising), and youthful tannins. This will be a great wine in 10-20 years. 91-94
Day 2: Straight out of the bottle this was almost like it had just been opened, a bit disjointed (this part of the wine hadn't been decanted yesterday, left in the open bottle). With a bit of air it is largely unchanged from yesterday, perhaps with a bit of richer black fruits like figs, and with prominent acidity on the palate. This does need at least 10 years, but it was interesting to try one now.

  • the 1999 Musar is one of my all time favorites so I thought I would give the 2010 a try. Some similarities and has that unique Musar funk. 2nd day noticed a little more dark cherry. This was young but I think it is worth seeking out again. 90pts+

  • Drank over 2 nights. Better on night 2. This wine needs some time or a long decant which it did not get on night 1.

Black/ red color and throwing a fair amount of sediment for it's age. On nose, iron, rose petals, dried cherry, dried plum and red currants. Unique. [Could guess Nebbiolo blind].

On palate, medium body, medium tannins and medium+ acidity with a long finish. Dried cherry, mushrooms, rose petals, and licorice (on night 2 only). 91+/- today with room for 2-3 points with age. I drank an '04 of this a few weeks ago and it was spectacular. Very old world in style. Will buy some more to age. CT score reflects score today.

  • Very strong aroma on the nose of walnut shells. Very high toned. Touch of sticking plaster; woody, walnut essence. Totally devoid of fruit. In my experience of Musar this is typically faulty and unpleasant. Very questionable winemaking here.

  • Far too young, but shows great promise. Dense plums and pomegranate, there is incredible intensity here with cutting acid and firm tannins. Smooths out a bit in the decanter, but really just a baby. Was a nice experiment to see where things might go and everything is solidly in balance here.

  • Chateau Musar was one of the "great wines' I hadn't tried yet. When Wine Access offered the 2010 vintage at a nice price, with the note that 2010 was a vintage that was ready to drink earlier than others, I had to buy a couple.

I gave the wine a couple hours of air after opening. Still, it was different than anything I'd tasted before. Lots of changes happened on the first day.

At first, the nose featured expressive notes of raisins and figs, with maybe a hint of anise as well? The taste was very tart, perhaps similar to Italian or Spanish wine, but even more so.

After another couple of hours, sour cherry and black tea flavors were introduced, with maybe a hint of leather too? I also noticed some carbonation on my tongue.

The wine was terrific on the second and third days open. Everything was in balance. Nice fruit on the midpalate, and dried herbs on the finish.

I'll keep my other bottle for a few years, as the common recommendation for Musar seems to be that you need to wait at least a dozen years, maybe fifteen years after vintage for the wine to really show it's stuff.

  • Very nice showing its potential but packed w fine tannin so requires some more years

  • What a wine. Such a wonderfully eccentric nose - figs, truffles... You'd think it might be an old Barolo from the perfume, but actually it has some uniquely odd notes of liquorice and musk and stewed prunes and nutmeg, and none of the violets and roses that you might get from a Nebbiolo. Such an interesting and unique wine. I like its idiosyncratic imbalance - when you think it's sweet, it's sharp, when you think it's tannic, it's soft, when you think it's voluptuous, it's lean. It's a contradictory wine, but it is so impressively distinctive, you can't ignore it. To paraphrase Gertrude Stein, Musar is Musar is Musar. And the 2010 vintage of Musar is a good one, and I can't wait to taste it in 2030.

  • I read about Musar in the 80’s, never bought it. I’m familiar with the top wines in the major regions but never experienced a wine with a similar aroma and flavor profile. This is different, very very good different. I cannot offer a rating number because the wine is young and in an intermediate stage. The good news is there is enough information to judge that it is a top wine, and will age well since it has all the ingredients. It has begun to be quite aromatic. I bought many bottles remaining from a special order, basis CT reviews here (thank you, reviewers). My faith was not misplaced, and I may return and buy all the rest. Basis my tasting you can’t own too many. The enjoyment factor is far greater than the cost and it is difficult to restrain from drinking too much! I’m drinking this over next days, nothing can change my view of its future relative to what I’ve already tasted.

10/25 Drinking 2d half, cold now so nose more subdued. The rest of the bottle is a reminder of the youth of the wine. Miles to go. If anyone wishes to drink a bottle, please follow the guidance of others and decant hours in advance.

  • Great nose with mixed bag of red and black fruit: cherries, raspberrys, rhubarb, boysenberries. Some VA, some pine resin, some laquer. Very charming. On the palate warm, sweet fruit but not getting heavy. Good balance. Medium+ lenght. Good wine!

  • WIML92

    Tasted non blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of barnyard, Kirsch and black pepper. Flavors of black berries, raspberries and a hint of blueberries. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.

  • I expected it to be too young, but actually it was drinking beautifully and seemed open even without decanting. We had it with slow cooked lamb shanks and baby aubergines and it was a great match.

  • Decanted 4.5 hours; consumed over 2 hours. I could tell when I poured this into the decanter that it was going to be special as it filled the space with a perfume that cut through the already delicious aromas of dinner prep. After dinner, whilst sitting on the sun porch, we were treated to this positively sublime example of Musar. Tart cherries, wild game, dates, Fig Newtons, tobacco, Herbes de Provence, alfalfa. Be still my beating heart. So very young and yet already extraordinary and a delight to behold. Monumental structure that puckers the mouth reminiscent of those cartoons where the character is forced a spoonful of powdered alum! Yes, the tannin is beastly and the acid is quite ample however, it's necessary in order to balance out the avalanche of fruit. Frankly, this tastes like a wine that will drink well past 2040...maybe even longer. Along with the 2014 Lignier Clos de la Roche that I drank back in May, this is right up there as my contender for wine of the year so far. Oh baby this is good! Absolutely insane QPR.

  • Good fruit and spice on the nose as it slowly opened. The palate showed more (mainly cinnamon) spice fhan expected and the rich red and black fruits were accompanied by pronounced citrus flavours with a juicy, long, sweet, citrus (mainly orange) finish. This wine will undoubtedly change and develop a great deal as it ages. It almost seems unfair to judge it in its extreme youth but it is already approachable and attractive. My score is my judgement now, before it really spreads its wings,

  • Initially this one was closed, as against the 2006. But it opened up and revealed itself to be the finer of the two wines. It's got a slightly smoky, dusty nose - bacon fat, wet earth as well. Less acidic and alcoholic than the 2006, it has impressive definition, and a thicker, sweeter body, with real vibrant fruit at its heart, and a delightful finish of white pepper and even some citrus notes, like a white wine. Very interesting and pleasurable.

  • Tasted at Pergola wine bar. Aromas of dark red berries, spices and dried fruits. Chewy, dense and rich in the mouth, still with a certain elegance and refinement. Needs a couple of years in the cellar.
