  • Devant 5 hours at a minimum. It has a rustic expression. Elegant with long finish. This is a very well made wine.

  • Nose of crushed red berries, currants, with herbs and lavender. Palate of tannic red raspberry, and lush ripe plum, with strong mid fruit of elegant construct with mineral soil and white pepper. The subtle herb of basil and thyme lead to a long finish of strong tannins and acidic raspberries, cherry, and ripe plum. Had with veal Saltimbocca, fall vegetables, roasted potatoes.

  • Still youthful. Medium nose intensity with notes of cherry, spices, fig and plum. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin.

  • Paired perfectly with cavatelli and meat sauce. Still needs time to settle as tannins and acidity were high after a 2-hour decant. I see other posters saved some for the next day (wish my thirsty friends/family would allow me to do that!). Solid bones, just need a bit of patience with this one, but the structure for a superb vintage is here: medium body, bright red fruit, anise, cedar, chocolate and mint were among the notes. Will wait another 4-5 years before popping the next bottle, expect this to get really good.

  • Garnet red in colour. This clear wine had a nose of ripe cherries and some pepper. In the glass we flavours of those ripe cherries, plums, and some roasted peppers. The acidity was strong while the tannins were incredibly strong. I hope these will settle down over time. The flavours in this were lovely but the balance was thrown off by the tannin levels.

  • Drank from a demi bottle. Deep ruby red color. Complex nose, black cherry, herbal notes. Nice tannins, great length. Excellent wine. Although young, very nice.

  • Luscious, young, was tight upon opening, and really became more expressive after about an hour of decant. Juicy with a lot of length. Love the super Tuscan characteristics of Cab and Cab Franc adding depth and nuance to the core Sangio

  • Day 1 pop and pour quite ripe and exuberant. Day 2 absolutely superb, ripe but fresh and balanced.

  • Beautiful nose with intense black fruit, vanilla, caramel, chocolate. It took 30min to open up.

  • Very sweet nose, almost like candy. Needs a few minutes to breath but a deep tannic red with medium acidity. Dried cherry notes. Had in Italy! Good wine.

  • Enjoyed this with friends at a steak dinner. One of the best from wines from Tuscany. Tannin, power, fruit, acid. Everything you want in a wine like this. Buy this a million times over. This is just going to get better and better with time.

  • My second vintage of Tig. Think i preferred this over the 2016. I found the 2016 a little too tight after opening whereas the 2018 was ready to drink. Classic wine and really a crowd pleaser. paired with Burgers

  • VT Group Tasting Vol. 4: Tasted double blind. This was strange. At first it showed quite well, layered, with good concentration and structure but with just 15 minutes in the glass it crashed hard: it lost almost all tension and a big hole opened mid-palate, leaving only very ripe fruit, spices and alcohol for your senses. That’s a bit concerning. 94pts at first, 85pts towards the end.

TN: A touch of heat, dark ripe fruit, spices, herbs. Very intense. On the palate this is sun-kissed, ripe dark fruit, dark red berries, spices, menthol, herbs, wet soil, minerality. Fine red berries. Ripe spices. Very fine tannins, good tension, good freshness. Superb balance but on the riper side of things. Then it all crashed and thinned out dramatically with some air. It became a ripe, spicy, alcoholic mess.

Decanting: Not decanted. I would not decant it (or maybe a very long decant?).

  • Tasted blind. Nice level of detail here showing red cherry and raspberry fruit, sweet spice and baking powder, mineral layer of iodine, vanilla and liquorish. Also develops more pipe tobacco complexity. Firm tannin and structured on the palate, but more rustic than I prefer. Time may yet resolve this, however.

  • The 2018 Antinori Tignanello is a red wine produced by the Antinori winery in Tuscany, Italy. Tignanello is considered one of the premier wines from this region, and the 2018 vintage was highly anticipated by wine enthusiasts and critics alike.

The wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc grapes, grown on the Tignanello estate in the Chianti Classico region. The grapes were harvested by hand, and then carefully selected and fermented in stainless steel tanks before being aged in French and Hungarian oak barrels for 14 months.

The 2018 Antinori Tignanello is known for its rich and complex flavor profile, with notes of dark cherry, blackberry, and tobacco, as well as hints of vanilla and spice from the oak aging. It has a full-bodied structure and firm tannins, with a long and satisfying finish.

This vintage of Tignanello has received high praise from wine critics, with Wine Spectator awarding it a score of 97 points and describing it as "powerful yet graceful, displaying ripe black cherry and plum flavors, accented by leather, earth and wild herb notes." It is considered a wine that will continue to improve with age and has the potential to age for several decades.

  • Gorgeous, lots of depth to the ruby colour. Aniseed, dark chocolate, cassis, blackberry, some vegetal notes on the nose.

Smooth palette, leading to a medium length finish dominated by black fruits, some pepper spice, black cherry, and dark chocolate.

Joy to drink, paired well with lasagna, depth of flavour and balanced acidity complemented the richness of the meal.

  • This was poured at home right after opening. The wine was clear and garnet red in colour. It had a bouquet of dark cherries as well as some graphite and floral notes. In the glass were flavours of ripe cherries and raspberries. It also had a bit of tanginess to go with quite strong tannins and mid level acidity.

  • Decanted 2 hours, fragrant of mixed red fruits like dried red cherry, raspberry, hints of vanilla, fresh tobacco leaf, green pepper, spice aromas and a touch of balsamic. It is full bodied, still very rich and lush at this stage showing a long runway of future potential. Thanks to its inviting fragrance and silkiness that help bring enjoyment right from the start. Finishing is long and complex with chalky tannins, sweet spice and a hint of rosehip tea aftertaste. This wine is energetic, pure and elegant. Drinking well today but given 5 more years should integrate nicely.

  • Good wine that is good with Italian food. Agree with a previous post that the wine is overpriced for the experience! Medium body with a fine finish with a nice but short finish. A fine wine but not that memorable.

  • I've had the 2010 and 2015 Tigs and now this wonderful 2018 which despite being young surprised me at how approachable it was even with no decant. Loved the fresh, intense, and luscious fruits, the powerful structure, balance, and length of finish. Flavors of sweet oak, blackberry, leather, tobacco, chocolate, black cherry, and black raspberry.

  • Served PnP, which required some serious efforts to help it shine. Gentle patience of ~1.5-2 hours in glass through the appetizers awakened what this wine had to offer.

With air, the nose evolves from sweet grocery store raisins to elegant dried prunes carrying a hint of earthy storage. Spices, tobacco, cedar, mocha from the cask integrate with the sour cherries to present a gentle and classy palate.

I had this with a grilled rack of lamb. The fruity acidity and elegant cask influence made the humdrum rack of lamb that much more exciting.

Probably needs time into the 2030s for this to drink at its peak.

Probably not maximizing its beauty with pizza and spicy ribs. That said it our anniversary today(46 years). We both appreciated it!

  • Decanted for two hours. If ‘04 and ‘10 had a love child, it would be this. So full, yet pure and elegant; with polished, layered tannins. Such length and a touch of viscosity. Black cherries, blackberries, raisins, black walnut shells, baker’s chocolate and crushed rock. Full-bodied goodness and a truly lively spirit. Truly stunning. This will age for many, many years. Quintessentially classic. Drink 2026 -.

  • Youthful and spicy, requires some further aging for showing its true grace. A blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% CS and 5% CF, aged for 15 months in new and second use FR and Hungarian oak, further 12 months in bottle. Medium intensity aroma of cherries, blackberries, smoke, rosehip, undergrowth, spices and garrigue hints. Medium+ body, fruity and racy, not as rich and structured as 2016, feels very fresh and underdeveloped with spicy powdery tannins and spicy finish.

  • I used to say that ‘Tignanello never disappoints’, perhaps this was the first time it did…

Dark ruby color. Full aroma’s of sweet cherry, some blueberry, vanilla and toast and a hint of spices. Full bodied with smooth tannins, integrated fresh acidity and some fresh fruit. The finish is long and evolves between bitter and fresh.

This is by no means a bad wine. Dense, aromatic and smooth, it delivers a pleasant experience. But not more than that… actually, to my taste it is over-oaked.
I’m missing the subtlety and refinement, and that magic eucalyptus note I experienced in earlier vintages. Admittedly, 2012 was my last vintage so I can’t really judge how the generally amazing 2016 vintage has worked out for Tignanello. And in general the 2018 vintage has delivered very good wines throughout Tuscany.

So, what do I think about this wine? Well, it doesn’t live up to my (high) expectations and I find the price not justified.
Lovers of dense new-world wines might have a higher appreciation for this wine than me.

  • First time tasting Tignanello, but i had the pleasure of enjoying a bottle of '98 Solaia a couple of months back. Though they are hardly comparable, i must say this style of wine is much different from what they did back then.

    PnP
Intense dried cherries, vanilla, cassis and spruce. After a while the Cabernet part was much more dominant with grilled pepper and anis.
Palate is very fruit forward with cherries, blackberries and blueberries. Ultrafine tannins.
After about 90 minutes in the glass, the wine fell completely off a cliff, with alcohol starting to show massively on the nose.

Overall a very ripe style of wine, much more than i expected after tasting the Solaia. It's not that it's bad, but for this name and price tag, i would expect a more serious approach to the structure of the wine. In the end it makes me want to mark this a terrible QPR deal.

  • Drunk this twice at different places. The price, the popularity and the alcohol level of this wine goes up and at the same time the quality goes down. This is a very different wine today than a few years ago. For me this is highly overrated. There are much better wines from Antinori for less money. For the price of Tignanello today, you can get a better return for your money somewhere else.

  • Drunk from magnum in a noisy restaurant, so the note may not be optimal. Still, I want to share the impression of this grand tuscan. Deep ruby, almost black. Very mature nose domeinated by vanilla and mint, but also with that tone of sweel black cherries underneath. Full bodied, almost sweet attack on thepaate, loads of crushed black cherries. Then a fine acidity kicks in, balances the sweetness in a fine way together with some rounded and sweet tannins. The aftertaste is sweet, dry, fresh and framed by tones of vanilla, chocolate and mint. Fascinating wine on the sweet, warm side. Will age well on the medium horizon (5-8 years), but I doubt if this is anything for the long haul. I may, anyhow, be wrong (as I have been so many times before). Perfect to drink now if you have the opportunity.

  • Opened 2 hours. Color is deep ruby/purple. On the nose: Plums, cherry, mocha, cassis and some vegetal notes. On the palate: Plum, cassis, cherry, blueberries, blackberries and bit of spice and chocolate. This is very good heading towards great. Flavors and dense and rich. Tannins are very soft. Will get even better with age.

  • At MRC. Blood red. Fresh, fruity nose dominated by raspberries, sweet cherries, cedar and tobacco. Still highly tannic at this stage, but the wine is very promising. The red fruits dominate, and are quite primary. Give this another 5 years, at the least.

  • (at Bottega - Yountville) Not nearly as open as the bottle from the summer. Felt much younger and a bit unsettled. Good / great stuffing but shy. Should improve significantly when it wakes back up. I would hold for 10 years. (93++)

  • deep red purple color, gorgeous nose of cherries, blueberries and leather, grand and deep, on the palate full and exuberant ripe Cabernet fruit- wave after wave of cherries, cassis and blackberries, very ripe and large in scale yet it never feels excessive, a mid-palate of fine depth and then just before the finish the fruit seems to almost kick- giving one more burst of ripe fruit that is a pure delight, exceptional length, for the first 3 hours this is all about the fruit but after that point the structure side of things becomes more evident with hints of tea leaf, a bit of dryness on the finish and generally revealing more of the terrific structure that is keeping this thoroughly lusty and delectable wine well balanced, as singular as the 2016 was- I think this is even grander, though also riper and more opulent and at times hinting at a bit of heat (ever so slightly), read the WA review- that is one of the best tasting notes they have ever written and is spot on IMHO, while this flirts with excess on all fronts- even at this young age it is harmonious and with that fine balance in place plus the Sangiovese nuances that will increase with time there is every reason to believe this will be just as compelling in old age as it is now in its muscled, youthful glory, don't just buy a case- get a couple of extras to enjoy while that case rests for 8-10 years.

  • A very smooth and unctuous wine showing a ton of vanilla oak so a waste to drink now unless you like that sort of thing. A bit of over-ripeness and heat have me a bit concerned but I trust Tig in that it usually finds its way with bottle age. Still, this is not nearly as promising as recent vintages such as '15 & '16. 89?

  • Nice red fruit. Nose was not as forthcoming. This bottle seemed a bit older than it’s age. Not much purple at the rim also lacked consentration. I did enjoy drinking this but way overpriced

  • I'm totally on board with the recent note that described the profile here as "funky fruit and felt pens." I'd add licorice and stiff black cherry. Excellent typicity for a Sangiovese blend like this. It's all in balance and was an ideal foil for spinach ravioli and coconut cake.

  • Not a succes this wine. Disjointed and alcohol peeking through, hot profile. Same with the Chianti Classico R from the same year. I have low expectations on how this will age. Regret having bought two bottles of this after drinking the fabulous 2016 before.

  • Informal dinner. No notes taken. This vintage is quite rich with a very ripe fruit core dominating. Additionaly layers of tobacco and earthy minerality. The structure is impeccable with ripe, velvety tannins, a good freshness and a luxurious creamy texture. Quite balanced and with a long finish. For me this was just a touch too ripe and too rich. It will be interesting to see how this will show in a decade once it has lost its baby fat. It should for sure have the structure and fruit to age. But 2018 remains a tricky hot vintage in Europe.

Decanting: Didn't need much air, good from the go.

  • Deep dark reddish garnet in color, almost opaque. Initially reticent nose later developing into full, fragrant & attractive nose of dark fruit aromas of cherries, black currants, mulberries with dusty/earthy & cedar/tobacco overtones, spices, herbs, some olive notes, cocoa &oak/vanilla. Full bodied with a very good concentration of balanced, smooth textured, rich, ripe dark fruit flavors of sweet cherries, blackberries and boysenberries, spices, herbs, minerals, cocoa, some oak & vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well with decanting and extended airing (+90 minutes) but needs much more time to develop fully & completely.

  • Not as impressive as the 17 but then again it might be in a shut down "phase". Dark fruits, chalky tannins and somewhat short finish. I would revisit in 2/3 years. Still very good wine.

  • 15th anniversary dinner at rustic Italian restaurant. called ahead to have bottle opened for 1 hour and then decanted for 1 hour before arrival. Right recipe for right now, just opening at first taste and beautiful development over next 2 hours.

the honest way for me to describe is, it tasted like I would expects roses to be. Silky, Smooth, Very fine tannin structure so well integrated bright fresh fruit. garnet color slight tinge on rim.

1st taste with bread evoo w/parm showed cherry and currants, slightly tight still
2nd taste with a grilled black Caesar salad. dressing and briney anchovies, reveal more dark fruit of blackberries.
by third poor with main dish of tagliatelle frutti di mare in pomadoro sauce, wine was wonderfully rounded with spice of pepper and mint, long velvety smooth finish.

the last sips left even worked with a lemoncello cake for dessert.

    oh cosi bella
can only hope I can get a bottle to last a decade to try again, maybe 96-7 then. buy if you can!!!

  • Tasted at a restaurant near Zurich. Surprisingly accessible, densely structured, round and balanced. A bouquet of red cherries, dried tomatoes and hints of cassis with an abundance of sweet oak notes such as vanilla and licorice. For my liking this was over the top, however, giving the wine a clumsy, wooden appearance. Apart from this, clearly well-made and highly enjoyable if you don't dive in too deeply and just have this as food companion.

I think of St.Estephe in particular

Dark ruby on the eyes with narrow rim.

Pronounce intensity on the nose with black fruit forward, black currant plum violet oak pepper mint.
    Enjoyable..🥰

Dry, med+ acidity, med tannin not fine also not too rough, med bitterness.

  • (at Roots Steakhouse - Summit NJ) Holy cow. An absolute delight paired with three California Cabs. Had the fruit to stand up to the big boys, but the earthy complexity and acidity that all but the Dalla Valle lacked. A baby but a beautiful baby. Very pleasurable today but will be epic in ten years. (97)

  • Fresh release. Splash decanted. Deep maroon in colour. Plush and ripe nose of blackberry, blueberry and black currant compote, a dusting of rock flour, iodine and graphite. No discernable wood influence. Full bodied, huge fruit extract, great supporting tannins (lots) and acidity, highish but balanced alcohol and a dry finish. Texturally sensuous. Huge black and blue fruit flavours nearly coat the mouth but then are displaced by tannins and cleansing acidity on the finish. Young, lush and full of baby fat, but crazy good to drink right now!

  • Second bottle of 2018 I have tried. Was unimpressed with first bottle. Decided to give it another try with more time to open.

When first opened (after~1hr in decanter)It was very heavy on the oak. Decanted and aerated it a couple more times and let it sit. Five hours in, The excessive oak had disappeared, but it was too tight and Tanic to be enjoyable.Nebbiolo style tannins at that point Put it back in the bottle and drank something else for dinner. The next day at dinner time it was MUCH better. (So 30 hours, 3-4 times through the decanter / vinturi). Good mixture of dark and red fruit, some nice spice in the background. Last glass the next day was even better.

So- Has some good promise, but I wouldn’t touch this for another five years, probably ideally 10+. If you do want to open one anytime soon, open it the day before.

  • Honestly, I don’t love this vintage. And I normally love Tignanello. It’s absolutely a very good wine, but it’s not what I think of when I reach for a bottle of Tignanello. Of all the Tig I’ve had this was the first where it came off as more new world Cab driven than Sangiovese-with-a-touch-of-cab. Maybe it’s still too young and will resolve over time, but this is very heavy on the oak and dark fruit and vanilla relative to other years. Will try another bottle soon to see if this was an odd duck, or just tough in comparison to the pure Sangiovese 09 flaccianello and 15 C.d.N. Tenuta Nuova we were drinking at the same time.
