Consistent with my last note 9 months ago. Drank over two days. Nicely balanced white Rhone blend still with good freshness, not overly heavy or rich (13.5% alc only), no signs of oxidization but aromatically fairly muted. Should continue to drink well over the next 5 years I think but will not improve. 90

No oxidation, still nice acidity in the background. Surprise find as I thought I only had 09 left. Needs right food. Grilled chicken or cheese, or strong fish. Tonight with sardines, bread and onions

A year since my last bottle and was a bit worried reading below comments re oxidization. Certainly no signs of that in this bottle. Still showing good freshness even though aromatically fairy muted for a White Rhone blend. Drink over the next few years.

This was well stored in 55F cellar, but it's now in decline. The Roussane has taken a baked apple character with toasty pie crust. Oxidation is evident but not overwhelming. Paired with lobster/shrimp bisque - the wine's fruit came to the fore, balancing rich bitterness from the lobster shell stock & medium toast roux in the full flavored bisque. Oxidation dissipated over the course of 2 hours & the wine became more enjoyable on it's own, but it's not like a fresh CdP blanc anymore. Pair foods accordingly.

Third bottle from a case and best showing yet. Am not a big fan of white Rhone blends in general as the wines are often too oily, alcoholic and bitter for my taste, but this is showing really well. Wonderfully complex nose with fine herbs and a touch of petrol. On the palate this is still fresh, not tired nor tiring. Long finish. Excellent - drink now.

Tired and lacking in fruit and acid. Long past its best. The nose has developed some grassy complexity but the palate had no gas in the tank to follow. A shame

Almost two years since my last bottle. This seems to be fading aromatically a little. No signs of oxidation though, and even improves and opens up with some air, so this will certainly last a few more years.

Still going strong. Good interpretation of C9DP from Paso Robles. Oily and honey-like. Zero acid - almost half-sweet. Complex and gaining in the glass. I think this is my last bottle of 07. Moving to 09 now.

clean floral and mineral tones pale still despite 11 years seems to have an unctuous texture that a good white rhone should and keeps bitterness in check, which is an issue I have with a lot of US rhone blends
Well done could age but see no benefit in longer time drink up

Straw yellow. 13.5% alcohol - nice to see that the New World version of this white Rhone blend does not have more alcohol than the original. Not tired at all with good acidity joining the honeysuckle, bitter quince notes and minerality. Complex palate. Long finish again with those bitter quince notes. Can drink now but will certainly last. Am not really a fan of white Rhone but this is an excellent white with equally great QPR.

drinking fantastically. give it at least 30-60 minutes before serving, and serve closer to 60-65F. rich and oily with some fascinating bitterness on the finish for the first hour or two, it dissipates and integrates later on to yield a delicious wine that's practically a meal on its own. nowhere near fading, but i don't see that there could be much more up-side to this

Satisfying, moderately good white rhone style evidencing dense yellow fruits, reasonable acidity, and a bit of oak. This bottle would likely have been good for another 5 years in the cellar. Drunk with some fatty pan roasted chilean seabass (aka patagonian toothfish?) for dinner and it worked pretty well.

Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of talc, yellow pears, creme fraiche and hazelnuts. Flavors of apricots, peach and quince. Medium acidity, full bodied. Drink now.

An absolute winner last night - I had good brunello for cheese, but our guests wouldn't move to red - this was too good to give up and complex enough for cheese. Not too much alcohol, sweet with some acidity (but not much), wonderful taste and no problem with aging for 9 years - on the contrary. Great wine.

Nice balance with delicate floral notes throughout. Pear, peach, lemon fruit with a nice acidity. Very bright and fresh considering the age. I do not think it is improving, but I think it has another 4-5 years left of very good drinking. I have been quite happy with the 2007's from Paso.

What isbjoern said. Most of this was consumed on Thanksgiving among a group, so no notes. Showed pronounced honey on the nose, but the body was fairly lean and minerally; nothing cloying and I felt the Roussanne glycerin was restrained, lower than typical. A glass worth left in the bottle, sealed and refrigerated, was the best on the 2nd night after coming up in termperature. Showed apple, clove, marzipan / a hint of nuttiness. Golden in color with some cloudiness. A very nice wine.

Really a unique and tasty wine. Outstanding concentration and length and superly balanced. A wild mix of flavors: golden apple, mango, orchard fruits, hazelnuts. An almost oily texture but with beautiful freshness and a mineral backbone. Full of life and tension. Great food wine. Wonderful now, but should hold well for several years yet. - 91 points

A blend of 68% Roussanne, 22% Grenache Blanc and 10% Picpoul fro the meticulous vineyard that is Tablas Creek. The floral nose suggests it might be somewhat light, but expectations explode when the wine hits the palate. The floral nose (hibiscus?) becomes orange zest, peach pits, pineapple, white pepper, anise and honey in the mouth. Its rich, oily texture carves a surprisingly bigger mouthfeel than anticipated. The texture and mouthfeel causes me to pause and take a moment. This wine is stunningly good. It finishes on white pepper, anise and honey. 13.5% alc. With a simple rotisserie chicken - an amazing pairing. With DDB and Rodney Young. Highly Recommended.

Medium straw. Generously weighted and still fresh, with stone fruits, honeysuckle, jasmine, lemon drop, wet mineral. Medium, well-balanced, integrated acidity. Broad on the palate with full palate coverage, hints of caramel, yellow apples, and honey. Medium plus finish, driven by mineral character. Solid wine.

Color: deep yellow with gold highlights. Well developed nose of honeysuckle musk, pineapple, mandarin orange and a touch of caramel. Delicious palate of honey, beeswax, pineapple and a little ginger. After going through a couple of years in (what seemed to me) a dumb stage, this has blossomed into quite the lovely wine. Solid medium-full body with some minerality and a medium-long finish. Noticed that this wine, even more than most whites, definitely needs to be consumed at or just below room-temp in order to maximize it's complexity.

Rich golden straw color, on the nose hints of pineapple, pear and notes of jasmine; and on the palate flavors of honey, green apple and mineral. Very smooth and seems to be drinking perfectly right now. Very long finish! Love it! Yummy!
Blend for this vintage is 68% Rousanne, 22% Grenache Blanc & 10% Pic Poul. It comes in at a respective 13.5% alc.

W scallops in JH upon return from AMA. This was overall very good. Nice nose although it doesnt jump at you. Mostly restrained even after it was open for an hour. Beautiful mature yellow color - very fresh. On palate also restraint but a great mix of spice and fruit. This went very well with the food. Finish was long. Agree with others that this needs air.

Columbus, OH offline 1/19/13 (Nick C's house): Pleasant aromas of quince, lemon, & flowers. The palate largely matched, with all of the above and the addition of a saline note. This had noticeable malolactic fermentation & time in oak- in general I'm not a malolactic fan but this wine is balanced with an enjoyable mid-length finish.

Last bottle of two. While similar in character to last tasting notes on 4/22/10 this bottle lacks some of the acidity present in the last bottle (not that the other one was high acid). This is in a good place now and I would not wait. Still has the wonderful Meyer lemon qualities, great richness, and a medium long finish. Good stuff!

PnP out of fridge. Medium gold in color, 13.5% abv, 68% Roussanne, 22% Grenache Blanc, 10% Picpoul Blanc. On the nose, an herbal quality is noted along with ripe melon, pear and apricot, followed by a hint of pine resin. On the palate, lush and medium bodied, with a silky mouthfeel, showing canteloupe and pear fruit, with a mineral-driven mid-palate and a spicy, energetic finish that is medium + and is quite delicious. This lovely and mature Tablas Creek white is a nice QPR, great with food or alone, and begs for another drink.

Pale yellow/straw in color, Stone fruit and mineral earthiness on the nose, stone fruit, apple and earthiness with a hint of vanilla and coconut on the palate. Silky in texture with a fairly long finish. It seemed a little off in the balance and didn't seem to know if it wanted to be a fruity wine or a rhone.

OCW4Poker XII - Wines of Washington (WCC - Irvine CA): Light yellow with a green hue lurking; Nose shows honey and a medicinal character, not evil though. Palate is pear/tree fruit followed by a wallop of acid. Texture is silky. I didn't really enjoy this wine and I know lots of people do but I decided to say so at the tasting. Two other people looked at me and said "I've never like this wine." There are just lots of better wines out there for less money.

Double decanted and tasted non-blind at dinner. I had this one with a course consisting of broiled walu and lobster. Somewhat disappointing nose that isn't as floral as I would expect but did have some notes of pears, other light fruits and spice. More fruit and minerals on the palate with a touch of sourness. The finish is consistent and extremely long, seems to go on for minutes. I tasted the next day and it had opened up tremendously with the nose coming alive with some white flowers and the finish was even longer. Very enjoyable wine now with some air but should continue to improve for several years. Very nice effort and food friendly, especially with a meaty fish like walu or tuna steaks. 91-92

From the winemaker: Rich and powerful, with an explosive nose of ginger and honey, rose petals, and licorice stick. In the mouth it's thick and broad, lifted nicely at the end by an herby white tea note, and a lingering finish of salted caramel and spice. Drink now and for the next decade.

Tasted immediately after opening. Not much nose and probably, at least in part, because it is overchilled. Flavors of orange, lemon, mineral and a touch of honey. Good acidity and a wonderfully creamy texture. I picked this up on a trip to the Central Coast last year and thought it the best of the white Rhone blends that we tasted.

Tablas Creek Spring Tasting Party: Tropical melons, lemons, minerals, with a touch of honey. Rich & round med mouthfeel with very good acidity. Very expansive and persistent with good vibrancy. Got this bottle from the winery's wine club for $32 and drank with Arthur's fresh crab cakes before dinner (Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) Beef Bourguignon with TC's 2004 Esprit de Beaucastel (their benchmark red blend)(review following)). As usual, TC does a great job with their red and white Esprit blends. The nose on this white blend (68% Roussanne, 22% Grenache Blanc, 10% Picpoul Blanc) isn't quite as floral as I would have expected, though it does reveal suggestions of tropical fruits (mango and pineapple), earth and stone, with just a hint of some kind of wax and spice. Flavor wise, this wine has a mouth-coating richness that most whites can only hope/dream of possessing. The richness imparted from the oak, along with a hefty dose of spice (white pepper) and mineraliness (there must have been shovels- and shovels-worth of stones and pebbles remaining in the fermentation tank before the wine was moved to oak barrel) is evident from the get-go. Next comes the tropical fruits (the mango and pineapple that was suggested in the bouquet), followed by a rich, waxy finish. The wine's crisp acids and mineraliness paired beautifully with the fresh crab cakes. As an alternative to the Usual White Suspects (Chardonnay and Sav Blanc), this wine is tough to beat. If you're looking for a unique, quality white to pair with shell fish and seafood pasta dishes like linquine in clam sauce, look no further. As usual, nice job Neil Collins.

– tasted a single glass non-blind over approx. 5 minutes – – bottle opened yesterday – – 68% Roussanne, 22% Grenache Blanc, 10% Picpoul Blanc –
Tan-yellow color of light depth. Lots of honeysuckle aromas, with hints of graham cracker and musk adding complexity. Medium-full bodied. Viscous on the palate, with loads of minerals and noticeable acidity. 13.5% alc. is not noticeable. Seems to be well-balanced, and poised to improve in the cellar.

Charming and captivating nose, floral and grapey with notes of honeysuckle, honey white pears, and minerals. The impression is ripe yet "cool". Smooth to taste, well balanced, rich in aromas, with a spicy and long finish. This wine comes through as a true original, even if it's something of a ch9 blanc copycat. Really well made, we'll try again in two years or so.

Tasted non-blind vertical of '05, '06, '07 at home from splits. Pop-n-pour from 56 degree cellar. Pale golden yellow. While possbile showing the most potential of the three, this one's still a baby. A little tight but shows very good concentration and depth. Think tropical melons rolled in honey, lemon, minerals, and a light floral note without overt sweetness. A touch of alcohol still noticible. Full bodied and rich with nice acidity, this one's got the makings of a great wine but needs another year or two.
Paired all 3 with grilled Chilean Sea Bass after tasting. This one was great both with & without food but as noted needs more time.
Had a sweet spot after about 2 hours in the decanter (out of a 375). Solid QPR. Met expectations. I like these varietals and Tablas Creek does a consistently good job with them.

Tasted at home from a split along side the '06 Esprit Blanc also from a split. Darker in color than the '06 with stronger aromas of tropical fruits, less of a floral note, and a wiff of alcohol. Robust buttery pears, honeysuckle, and melons with good acidity and minerality. Nicely balanced but still feels like a youngster. This wine's best years are yet to come. The power of the fruit and dose of acidity make this pair well with spicier foods (grilled cajun chicken). Drink the '06 while this rests another couple of years.

Drank @ Brian's house. Disappointing given high expectations. Nose was subdued. Lush and creamy with good weight, but not complex in flavor. Better near room temp than chilled for sure. We had this right after a higher acid white Burg, so maybe that made it seem soft and flabby.

Popped and poured, consumed over 2 hours. Nose: Honeysuckle, apple, pear and white floral aspects. Initially somewhat subdued but as wine neared room temperature became very expressive. Palate: Full bodied, with tropical fruits, luscious creaminess on the back-end. Finish: Lengthy, dominated by tart lemon and minerals. The closer this white got to room temperature the better it performed. An excellent effort from Tablas Creek - Bravo!

Nose of lemon curd, pear, honeysuckle, and a melon I can put my finger on. Rich and viscous on the entry, minerality builds on the midpalate with a nice acidic streak honing the finish likely due to the picpoul blanc. Mouthcoating and lingering. Flavors of apricot, lemon, slight spice and herb. The wine is very primary at this stage and has a nice balance to age for some years, maybe 2013-2016 peak? Really good stuff with some upside when the roussanne takes on some age. 92+.

Nose: Melon and sweet lemons with some minerality. Palate: BIG richness (almost need a knife and fork to consume this thing) with the ripe lemon at the forefront and the melon on the mid palate and finish. This is an amazing southern Rhone Blanc replica. The only flaw is a bit of a bitter quality on the finish, but that subsides with air and so is not problematic. Well done Tablas Creek!

Liking this much better on this try. Beautiful honey and apricot on the nose. Soft mouth feel, round and nearly rich balanced by enough acid to show wet stones and some spice (allspice?, cloves?) and a lingering finish of honey and a bit of citrus. This wine was quite the conundrum, for while the color showed absolutely no signs of age, the palate made me wonder whether the wine was a little past peak. Faded notes of kiwi and lemon zest. Sadly, a bit too ephemeral on the palate.

floaral nose and nice medium weight mouth resembling some of the best Chardonnays (tropical fruit, honey, a touch of creaminess). Yes, it's like drinking very good CA Chardonnay (E.g., Montelena) what I felt and then there's no Chardonnay here at all! I am still wrestling with the score though. Compared with Montelena Chardonnay, it's much cheaper, but we had a great Rhone white for just $15 last week, and we scored it at 90, so I'll head for Tablas Creek next week to further evaluate it!

Only released in the last month. Tight as a drum initially. It took quite a bit of siwrling to get it to open up and it was worth it. The most notable contrast to the 2006 is that it is lighter and has a laser-like focus. The last few sips seemed to tickle some taste buds that the 2006 didn't quite reach. The nose is again white fruits and flowers. On the palate, citrus flavors and apples and a better finish than the 2006. This wine is perfectly balanced and elegant. I can't say what the long-term aging prospects are like, but if I had this I'd put it in my cellar and open it around 2010 at the earliest. This is a memorable wine.

Excellent - drink now.

clean floral and mineral tones
pale still despite 11 years
seems to have an unctuous texture that a good white rhone should and keeps bitterness in check, which is an issue I have with a lot of US rhone blends
Well done
could age but see no benefit in longer time
drink up

An absolute winner last night - I had good brunello for cheese, but our guests wouldn't move to red - this was too good to give up and complex enough for cheese. Not too much alcohol, sweet with some acidity (but not much), wonderful taste and no problem with aging for 9 years - on the contrary. Great wine.

The texture and mouthfeel causes me to pause and take a moment. This wine is stunningly good. It finishes on white pepper, anise and honey. 13.5% alc.

I tasted the next day and it had opened up tremendously with the nose coming alive with some white flowers and the finish was even longer.

Tasting w/out food: Drank with food:
1. '05 1. '06
2. '06 2. '07
3. '07 3. '05

Clear and lite in the glass. Flower stand at a gas station on the nose. Pear, herbs and acidity initially. Sublime mid-pallete minerality provides good mouthfeel and citrus with pleasant tartness. Summer fruit, carmel and continued minerality on the medium-length finish. Glad I have a few more bottles to explore.

Popped and poured except for waiting for the temperature to come up a bit; seemed to develop over time. [375ml]
