Paired with a 2007 Mugneret Gibourg Echezeaux. Decanted @ 4:00 this got darker in the decanter and made me quite nervous. A quick taste @ 5:00 allayed my fears. Odd color aside this was a delicious Mersault, good fruit, acidity, texture, balance and lingering finish.

2022 release from the domaine’s cellar… 1 of 2 decanted @ 5:00 served @ 7:00 alongside of a 2006 Raveneau Valmur. Nice gold color, hints of honey and stone fruit, hint of citrus and solid minerality. With more time in the glass this really opened showing quite well. Lovely texture, balance and finish, great contrast to the Valmur

The vineyard surrounding the Lafon house and purchased on release! Light yellow colour with stone fruit nose and outrageous mid palate complexity that easily makes this the best so-called Deuxiemes cru Meursault, if not the best village white burg on the planet. Lanolin nectarine pits on a long palate with subtle caramel notes on the finish, with a zip of acidity that makes this a white wonder that should be a case buy every year. Best now to 2032.

Took hours to open, but when it did - it was glorious. Peaches, white flowers with the slightest touch of citrus. Really good acid married to good minerality. This was very young but oh so wonderful. Just a touch short on the finish - betraying its village origins.

06/07 Burgundy Blind Tasting – This 2007 Clos de la Barre is developing gorgeously for a village wine. Waxy yellow fruits, ripe lemons and buttery toast. The texture, salinity and oak toast reminds me of Chablis from Dauvissat, even so the Meursault creamy stone-y minerals are distinctive. Gentle yet delicate white peach and mineral finish. Meursault 2007? (89/100)

popped three older Lafons (2005 and 2006) in a row - all corked/premoxed badly. with trepidation, i opened this and it was fine! pretty gold color; nose was white stone fruit; this was lots of lemon and minerality; was just one level of extra fruit and intensity to be a top white; but it was still terrific and super enjoyable. the finish had good acidic cut; a bit pleasant bitterness and lots of minerality frame the acidic finish. happy to finally have an aged lafon that wasn't corked.

My last bottle. This might have been the best yet if the case. Very greenish yellow in color. Decanted briefly before serving. Nose of daisies and buttercups gave way to a mouthful of surprising acidity and lemon zest with just a touch of salted caramel. It drank effortlessly. Delicious.

2007 DOMAINE des COMTES LAFON CLOS de la BARRE MEURSAULT- one of my fav bottlings over many years from this producer, this bottle shined as bright as many before it; spicy, mineral infused lemon, lime, pear and white peach was carried in a distinct texture all the way to the back end for maximum tactile and taste sensory pleasure.

Wine like this renews my reverence for master winemakers. Perfect for what it is, a top flight village white burgundy. Impeccable balance of ripe fruit, acid, and tannin. No wood in evidence. Smooth texture, satisfying bright finish without bitterness. Pure pleasure. Don’t think it will improve with additional time but may hold at this plateau for 2-3 more years.

A very solid performance here. We haven't had one for a year or so (last time it was a poor show) and this one was just singing. Still very fresh and showed no issued wit premox albeit as time went by there were a few notes pointing to that. Very pure, less fatty meursault more of a puligny. definitely a lot better than a village wine :). Citrus, mineral, still a fair amount of the honey touch of the oak. We can go on here but really delicious. 93 and best attack sooner than later.

The meal: Antipasto Osso Buco with polenta and broccoli rabe Select Vermont cheeses Pears poached in cassis accompanied with red wine sorbet
The wines: N/V Nathalie Falmet Champagne Cuvee Le Val Cornet (deg. May 2014) - 91 2007 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre - 94 2006 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Colonnello - 94 2006 Azienda Agricola Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino - 92 2012 Booker Vineyard Grenache The Ripper - 94 2012 Torrin Akasha (Syrah) - 95
The Falmet was nicely balanced and very pleasurable to drink with antipasto dish. Tight bubbles, notes of citrus and toast. Drinking as good or better than previous bottles.
The 2007 Clos de la Barre was a perfect accompaniment to antipasto and also balanced well against the reds later in the evening. Lots of buttery notes and a smooth long finish. Continues to astound me.
The 2006 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Colonnello is just beginning to emerge as a young maturing Barolo. The tannins are subsiding quite a bit and had a great balance of fruit, soil, fragrance and polish. It has structure to last for many years, and it would be good to wait another 5 - 10 years to try it again.
The 2006 Le Ragnaie was an excellent Brunello but suffered a bit in comparison to the Colonnello. Its tannins were more muted but it lacked a certain complexity that I was hoping for. It is still an excellent wine.
The 2012 Booker Grenache and 2012 Torrin Akasha (Syrah) made for interesting counter-points to each other and to the older Italian wines. The Booker exhibits lots of licorice and fruit and big chewy set of tannins that are quite integrated. The Torrin presented a complex palate of dark fruit, earth tones and soil. It had an exceptional finish and had us all talking and marveling over it.

La Paulee de NY - Verticals Tasting (Rainbow Room - NYC): Tasted at large walkaround tasting. My favorite of the vertical, this had most of the things I enjoyed about the '09, but more cut. Still a ripe tropical fruit profile, with oak, but a really strong acidic verve here.

La Paulée de New York: Vertical Tasting (Rainbow Room - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Easily the most complex wine of the vertical. Leaner fruit with less coming forward, but there is coiled energy here, really coming through on long finish. I'd cellar this longer than the 2008. The upside potential is greater here vs 2008 (but riskier?), while the '08 will clearly be easier to enjoy over the next few years.

The Verticals at La Paulée 2017 (The Rainbow Room, New York): Light yellow-pale for a 10 year old wine. Dry stone fruit aromatics. Lighter than its younger counterparts, less oak, some leesiness. Bright and spicy in the mouth. I liked this quite a bit although it is a step or 2 behind the '08 in depth and strength of material. Delightful, elegant mouthful now, though.

Comtes-Lafon masterclass with Dominique Lafon. Slightly aged notes of honey, spices, nuts, minerality, but also some white flowers. It's medium+ bodied with medium-higher acidity. Good lenght, fresh mouthfeel with quite some tension. A nicely aged Clos de la Barre but not as complex as the top-wines in this series.

Another terrific btl tonight. This is all about ethereal refinement and purity of fruit. Just stunningly beautiful! Still drinking pretty young and reminiscent of a great Corton Charlemagne 's steely elegance. I loved this wine and grabbed some extra pours. Village level but in the right hands this is more like Grand Cru.

A Great French Tuesday at Tilia (Tilia, Mpls): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30+ minutes. this was a laser beam tonight, taut, taut citrus, quite wound up, razor acidity and minerality. Felt young tonight and very coiled. Good stuff 92+ to 93pts.

A troubled bottle that we moved around a lot and really badly treated so not the best example. Still a very beautiful wine albeit starting to show signs of age. Now not sure that is caused by the bad treatment of the specific bottle or the wine in general ageing . Let's see at the next one. Felt like a 92-93 again but we will not rate as bottle was sub optimal.

Quite buttery and slightly ponderous when compared with the Roulot 2007 that was drunk beside it. The wine was big and had slightly nutty overtures before the floral aromas and lively white fruits came through. You can sense the structure and purity of the terroir beneath the oak and butter but the wine still needs some time before it is willing to reveal it. It's a very good White Burg but was bested at this point of time by the Roulot, but in a few years, it will also be as good or even better. 92 for now. 93-94 down the road.

A consistent showing much like 2 months ago (Papies 93). We decanted it for like 20 minutes and we would recommend one decants as it definitely helps develop the wine. Still on the start of its journey and has some puppy fat to lose yet and also assimilate a bit more the oak. But one cannot but love this wine and is just a pretty little number and very well made. There is nothing village about this wine. 92-93 and with a glorious future ahead.

Opened and served. We would suggest some decanting to help the wine develop though. Such a beautiful wine and a pure expression of Meursault albeit still a touch too fatyt to be perfect. One cannot help but forget that this is a "village" (Unless tat person was the one paying and then he/she never forgets). Has definitely evolved since last time we tried it (9/2013 Papies 92) and seems to be ageing nicely with no premox issues. Very good. 93

Just fantastic! Some Meursault flamboyance but also extremely elegant and classy. Tasty to the max. I could drink this again in a heartbeat. If you're spending $75-$100+ on Kistler & Aubert spend $15- $25 more and get this instead. Terrific weight and none of the over the top oakiness of equally spendy CA Chards.

A Few Lafon Meursaults and Volnays (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Same light color as the 2008. Much less interest and concentration on the palate, though. Fairly neutral flavors, more marked by wood, not as lively. As I said in another note, this was outpaced by the 2007 village wine.

Opened and served. Light pear, apple on the nose. Light oak. Quite a fine, delicate Meursalt, with none of the heave, buttery, oaky elements that many of its neighbours have. Fresh, firm and very balaced this is a class act, albeit not the deepest or most complex example. Loved the "lightness" of it and that rather than over oak it to get weight here they left is more on th pure side. Hopefully others would take note too.. 92 from us, drinks nicely now but has a good future

No formal notes. This was excellent and drinking very well. The fruit is slightly riper than you might expect from the vintage, but there is ample acid, minerality and purity. As much as id love to see this in 5 years, id be worried about premox. Nice thing is this is so enjoyable now its not too much of a shame to drink it young. Excellent.

Steely and a bit Chablis-like on first sniff. Zesty lemon, chalk, stones, butter, whitepepper, cucumber peel and slight mushrooms. Sherbet coolness. Dry and zesty medium to fullbodied palate with slightly oily touch and finely textured grainy to creamy mid-palate of yellow fruits. Good length finish with refined nut notes, maccadamia. Beautiful subtle expression. Impeccable balance.

This was a very fine young Meursault. The fruit is surprisingly a shade on the tropical side, but the acid and mineral-infused structure were more what you might expect from a 2007. As usual, this wine bats far above its classification - very few "mere village" wines could touch this. It is of 1er Cru quality without doubt. Not a bit of oak to be seen on this one. Admirable purity. Will easily go another 5 years.

Domaine Tasting at Comte Lafon: From bottle. Great mix of yellow fruit, mineral, and white floral on the nose. Palate was a bit richer than I would normally expect for the vintage. The Verticals at La Paulee de San Francisco (Westin St. Francis - San Francisco CA): Putting aside the first taste poured from a flawed bottle, the second taste from a different bottle showed apple and pear on nose with classic roasted hazelnut. This wine was absolutely overpowered by the nose of a Coche Dury, Meusault 2007 tasted alongside. Same weight on the palate, which is medium, but the nose of Coche justs stands out. Very brawley and almost burlesque in its spiciness and toastiness. The Lafon is more classic and elegant, but frankly not as interesting. Nice mouthfeel with some buttery notes on the back palate. The finish is fine.

Mon offrande. 91-92

This took some time to open up in the glass, but it kept evolving over the course of the 45min we had flowing into our glasses. Initially reticent nose but later fabulous white peaches, and citrus hints. The palate was equally layered with the typical '07 acidity and minerality. Simply fantastic. I would guess this will continue to improve in bottle over the next 10 years....

Perfect spot between richness and freshness, with good middle-weight tones and complexity. Not one of his best wines, but awfully attractive and appealing. Would drink these now.

Comtes Lafon Master Class (Grand Hotel Dolder, Zurich): Here we have some tertiary aromas with nutty scents but also grass, spices and flowers. Again a nice Chard but not up there with the top 1er Crus of Lafon.

As much as id love to see this in 5 years, id be worried about premox. Nice thing is this is so enjoyable now its not too much of a shame to drink it young. Excellent.

Nice mouthfeel with some buttery notes on the back palate. un vin droit avec une grande pureté de fruit.
