Well...probably one of THE single best purchases I've ever made...the next to last bottle of an 8 pack purchased 8 yrs ago...all have been top notch! This one is going into its "golden" years...showing more golden yellow pitted fruits, dried honey, butterscotch spice...a wonderful calmness to the wine now...not as intense energy as before, yet still sharp as a TACK with citrus pucker and crushed rock minerality...the wine has a GC weight of good living, yet stands to attention with precise focus...just fascinating complexities of honeycomb, white pepper, sea salt caramels, smokey dry extract, white flower lime blossom florals...creamy with zip and spice...it is just quintessential WHITE BURGUNDY my friend! I just flat out love this wine!

A delightfully complex and evolved yet still freshly buoyant. Nose of honeyed apples and pears, exotic spices and dried florals. Plump fruit with nice freshening acidity. Fully mature. Wish all my bottles showed like this one.

Another excellent bottle. A mature, vibrant and rich bottle with enough energy and acidity of its youth married to complex, honeyed orchard fruit. Excellent weight and persistence in the long, fruit-filled finish with mineral, honey, and dried floral accents
Perhaps not quite as energetic as my bottle from February 2022.

White Burgundy study (2008 and 2014) (Chicago, IL): This bottle had a Winebid and Acker sticker on its back, so it had obviously seen more than its fair share of transactions, but despite that history, it was stunningly fresh. Served blind, I think most of the table would have guessed 2014 instead of 2008. This is a wine that seems very sedate; it's never loud, but still possesses extraordinary gravitas. The fruit profile is more white than yellow, and there's just a little sweetness to go with the acidity. But the texture is more like that of a Helmut Dönnhoff Auslese -- ethereal and palate coating. I can only hope my other bottles show like this one.

12/12. Pale/medium gold. Lightly honeyed, butter, spice, quite bright still though too, with ripe orchard fruit underneath . Medium bodied, with some weight but quite precise and linear too, a nice tension runs through it, vibrant acidity, some citrus and spice notes on the long, tangy finish

One of my favourite producers of all time now disbanded so one of the last this Domaine produced before the split. Probably not the greatest bottle colour was a little bit more golden than I would have thought. Richness coming from maturity has a fairly mineral quality to it more stone/slate than chalky/flint. Slightly cloying around the edges and have seen much better from this producer but first time with the 2008. Still quite enjoyable but on the strength of this bottle drink up.

A couple of bottles of 08 Louis carillon puligny les perrieres over the last 2 nights. First bottle was quite musty and it didn’t blow off. Also, quite advanced but lovely sweet, precise fruit under that. 2nd bottle was singing from the start but again fully mature.

In such a great place right now. Precision with great tension and lovely fruit. This doesn’t quite have grand cru depth, but this is probably as close as it gets.

Stands out for its clean and clear presentation, and not at all shy with its acidic cut. As a result, the fruit is subtle, laying underneath the acidity and mineral impressions to start, but it does gain in richness with air, taking on a good saline, savory aspect. While it doesn’t have the depth of the grand cru’s served along side, it has the greater balance and energy. Shows youthful, and acts like it will continue to improve in the coming years. From young vines.

The 6th bottle of an 8 pack bought 4yrs ago...all have been the bomb, but THIS dude is hitting full stride! Little darker now, but still showing brilliant shimmering gold/green...still INTENSE energy with the ample citrus acidity and crushed rock minerality...holds the creamy ripe, GC weighted fruit at perfect attention. The complexities are tasty...little smokey reduction, chalky limestone, dried honeycomb, sea salt butter caramel, green apple skin tartness, spritz of fresh lime...super lengthy finish of honey butter, lemon tarts and flower garden face plant. Only 2 bottles left...wish I had 200!

This continues to be a ROCK STAR! The most beautiful shimmering gold and green color...reduction smoke, lemon/lime citrus, limestone chalk, butter sautéed green apple nose. In perfect form right now...the fruit is ripe and creamy with GC weight...pure and energized with intense citrus acidity and a wall of crushed rock minerality! Background smoky reduction, caramel green apples, honeycomb, vanilla butter, salty sea air. Endless length of flowers and spice, creamy with zip, and a funk show of geology! Never had Coche Perr(meursault)..but I'll bet this wine would get a few good punches in, in battle! Will even get better. +pts

Think this is underrated, possibly due to bottle variation, on the board here. This bottle was absolutely singing and completely ageless at 9 years old. Goes to show how important storage is (this one sat unmoved in humidity/temp controlled storage since I bought it on release in 2010). Youthful color, light straw, with a very precise nose of vanilla bean, lemon, white flowers, crushed rocks. Perfect balance on the palate with refreshing acidity and a hugely long finish. 93+

Coravined 1/2 a bottle. Pale/medium straw. Striking, intense nose of lemon, mineral, touch of mineral and spice. Medium bodied, laser like lemon fruit, lovely depth and mouthfeel, touch of chalky mineral, vibrant acidity, packs a real punch on the broad, extended finish. Lovely, the best bottle of this by far.

A Few Meals in Burgundy; 3/20/2016-3/26/2016 (Burgundy): Starts with lemon and lemon peel, then getting more lush and ripe and apple-ly with more air. This kept getting bigger, riper and better as it spent more time in glass over three hours, really charming me with Citeaux at the end of the evening. Totally confused how a 2008 seems this ripe, but not questioning the pleasure.

White burgundy aged to perfection. No hint of premox. Expressive floral nose and a well balanced palate, mineral driven with saline notes. Long satisfying finish. Carillon's wines from Les Perrieres vineyard have aged much better than those made with fruit sourced from his other 1er Cru vineyards. Drinking at peak, but should hold on it's plateau.

Bright, medium straw. Nose is quite developed with spice, apple, touch of lime sherbet. Medium bodied, fresh and zingy still but with a touch of creamy breadth now, limey/citrus, touch of chalky mineral, very good length, slightly sherberty finish. Best bottle of this so far.

Very pale colour. A big whiff of sulphur and tart lemon on the nose. Very intense and focused but extremely wispy and light at the same time. The palate is stony and racy, with relatively high acidity, though there's a certain softness to it that makes this less bracing than the acidity would lead one to think. Gentle flavours of tart citrus on the palate with some flintiness as well. Definitely my style of chardonnay. A little bit of oak starts peeking through on the second day, with some white peach notes as well. If anything, this has gotten fleshier and broader, while retaining its acidic zest.

INTENSE citrus cut here! Crushed rocks with a squeeze of lemon/lime juice and dusted with limestone chalk! I actually really LOVE the intense acidity here…so intense, its spicy! The fruit has plenty of weight to stand up…creamy and pure….but still out of whack. Nice complexities of white flower florals, honey stick, briny sea air, slight smoked caramel. Really tasty stuff……very intrigued to see how this will age itself out…and hopefully balance. I'm guessing ++pts here. Glad to have a bunch to follow!

Pale/medium straw, quite bright. Intense nose, with pungent green fruit -lime and apple, spice, mineral, slight note of asparagus. Medium bodied on the palate, has pleasing weight in the mouth and welcome bright acidity, intense green fruit, note of asparagus again, very spicy on the long, crisp finish. I like the balance here but do find the overbearing green fruit flavour profile unusual and actually a little odd. Overall I prefer the village wine this year.

Pale/medium lemon. Nose shows citrus fruit - lemon, some lime, vanilla. Medium bodied, lemon, lime and green apple, taut and fresh but with nice weight too, quite primary, a touch of acacia and smoke on the very good length, crisp finish. Very good indeed but didn't wow me.

Dinner at Home (Vancouver, BC): No formal notes. This was excellent. Not as lively and tension/energy filled as the bottle I had back on 6/19/2012, but this was much closer to that bottle than the advanced bottle I had earlier this year. When this wine is showing well, it's really good. Excellent.

OC Tasting Group Does Blind Wines @ Playground (Playground in Downtown Santa Ana): Man, this was really good, showing improvement over the last year. I kind of kick myself for flipping my last bottle a few months ago but I needed then to make space. Shows all kinds of cool complex and balanced notes. Mint, peach skin, yellow apple, lime and a spicy finish. Then, some slate fills in at the end. I was guessing Huet, Louis Michel but in the end, Carillon and this was just delicious and fabulous.

Lemon tinted. What a nose! White peach, a slight but agreeable mealy character, chalky minerally citrus and marzipan. On the palate medium bodied but beautifully proportioned. A rich fruit feel to accompany that minerality then a lengthy citrus finish and acid lift.

Scents of white flower, green apple and citrus. Interesting wine to watch unfold...at first it had nuances of oak and slight oxidized notes then it opens up to become fresher and sharper with more minerality and acidity on the palate. With more time and air you will notice more complexity with flavors apple, citrus, butter, creaminess and additional weight. The subtle nuances take time to come together...This is like a "Barolo of white wines". This wine was double decanted an 1 1/2 hours before dinner and then tasted during another hour. A wine with awesome tension and nuance.

Pre-Trip Dinner (Salade de Fruits Café): This was interesting. When we first opened it, it came across as advanced. Nose had hints of oxidation but the palate was worse with toasty and charred butter flavours and a profile that lacked freshness. We set it aside and moved on to the next wine. Three hours later the nose seemed to get fresher and more delicate with citrus, minerals and nice floral notes. The palate also seemed to freshen up with less oxidative flavours and more acidity, freshness and precision. Not nearly as good or youthful as my previous bottle (June 2012), but still very good. Now, what to do with my remaining bottles…drink or hold?

All one can ask for in a premier cru white burgundy. Expressive nose leads to a wonderful palate impeccably balanced with well integrated oak, fruit and acidity. Loooong finish! Drinks well now, but will hold and perhaps evolve. No sign of premox. White Burgundy lovers take note, Great producer.

This was quite different than the ’08 Benoit Ente Folatières En la Richard and had I tasted it blind I’d have guessed ’07 and not ’08. On the nose this was airy with loads of green apple, citrus, white flowers and minerality with no a trace of oak. Very pure and focused. While this may not be as full and complete on the palate as the Benoit Ente, this Carillon possesses an insane level of tension and mountains of mouth-watering acidity. Flavours similar to the nose of green apple, citrus and minerality with just a trace of oak coming through on the finish. This is focused, precise, razor sharp and very youthful. Will open my next bottle in 3 years or so. Excellent. 92+

Lunch with Nicholas Pegna of Berry Brother & Rudd (Moluccas Room, Marina Bay Sands): A superb 1er Cru. This has surprisingly come a really long way since I tasted it in barrel at the (now sadly split-up) Domaine, more than fulfilling the early promise it showed. In fact, I thought this bottle was beautifully expressive for such a young Carillon, with a nose that almost burst out of the glass with lovely curls of vanilla and cream, with ripe apple and white flower aromas all underscored by a layer of chalky mineral accents. The palate was still clearly young, maybe not quite as ebullient as the nose, but it too was lovely and oh so expressive, with a beautiful flow of lemon curd and apples and honey and marzipan - fleshy and delicious, but also blessed with the beautiful freshness, focus and definition that marks the best of Carillon's bottlings, together with a sense of energy that drove the wine into wonderfully lively finish, where citrussy, sherberty brightness and chalky minerality melded together in a long, delicious tail. A smashing 1er Cru even in its youth - it would be hard to stop depleting this if I had any in my cellar. Even so, I think it will be even better in a short couple of years' time.

Carillon Perrieres vertical with Jacques Carillon (London): Pale straw. Elegant nose, a touch of elderflower and a green limey edge. Very clean and linear mouth entry; broadens on the mid-palate, but this is lithe and beautiful. Great matiere and a precise, elegant finish. 4+

A bit of sweet, brioche styled oak surrounds a very pretty, silky wine. Sneaky concentration, white flowers and wet stones with tremendous palate detail and great cut and clarity on the backend. This will just get better and better, hopefully premox doesn't kill it.

Quite distinct with some creamy oak density on the nose though not overpowering in the least. The palate is cut with bright acidity and long with lovely floral and stonefruit notes, with loads of wet stone, white flowers and tones of baking spice and mineral. Quite enjoyable now though I think the wine will gain complexity with a bit of bottle age by shedding some of the oak upfront to reveal the reticent minerality and weight of Puligny.

This is the real deal. The nice but restrained citrus nose just hints at the painfully intense palate. This wine is young and coiled into a tight, powerful core of lemons, green apples, and a faint dusting of almonds, oak, and stone fruits. This is mineral, acidic, and pretty linear at this point--but the intensity and purity of the fruit nevertheless make this seem almost opulent. A stunner with clear upside--class in spades.

This is pretty giving on the nose for a wine of this transparency, with ample lemon & pineapple tones. However, I think the best part of this wine is the excellent palate presence you get from the oily and dense fruit, which plays against some very pronounced acidity. Simply beautiful and tasty.

Showed very nice again this time, although the perception of oak, via a toasty note and some slick wood notes in the fruit was more apparent. Where the wine still succeeds is in the balance and even nature of the palate.

California Vs Burgundy Blind (Frank Murray's Casa): Served blind. The nose is reticent but shows some sushi salinity with funky earth. Funky mushroom note on a tight palate. There is powerful fruit lurking here underneath but its not exactly stitched together right now. Clearly needs some rest but the complexity and tight fruit are intriguing. I voted it 3rd.

Burg Dinner (CA and France--Served Blind!) (Murray Casa): What an excellent bottle of wine. Was damn near my #1 wine of the night but between this wine and the 2008 Sauzet Champ Canet, I took the Sauzet as my #1 and finished this one #2. Citrus, orange rind, green apple/pippin and lots of mineral and complexity. I am fortunate to have bought a couple of these already so I can enjoy this wine a few more times in the future. With only one person not voting for this wine at all, it surely got the attention of the table: 6 1st place votes, 44 total points and overall winner of the white flight. Excellent bottle and for me why I'm on a straight path for more Puligny.

Trip to Burgundy; 6/7/2009-6/10/2009 (The Cote d'Or): From barrel. Malo was only half complete, which made this a little difficult to judge. Certainly a lot of quality in the fruit though. Lovely nose with lots of mushroom, earth and msuky grapey scents, along with a strong whiff of lovely green apples. Some of that surely from the malic acid. Lots of complexity on the palate. Again, very pure granny smith apple flavours, with some yeast and a whole lots of fresh acidity riding on top of the slightly hidden flavours underneath. Finish was long with a lovely resolution. 92-93

The Perrières is slightly better than the Champs Canet but both are major under achievers.

EWG at AKA: white floral notes, crisp apple, lemon, wet rocky mineerality, great depth; acidity is very lively, nice medium weight. Very nice, long mouth watering finish.

Brilliant showing with seared sea scallops. Notes of apples and vanilla with nice cut and minerality . The oak is well integrated and not at all intrusive. This wine is still young and should age beautifully.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #069; Burgundy: Puligny, Chassagne, Meursault (By RvD): Beautiful and complex bouquet with tropical fruits, minerals, flowers and pleasant oak. Mouth filling. White fruits, pineapple, tart citrus, a touch of sweetness and beautiful oak. Harmonious and focused and a beautiful wine. Already a great pleasure and with a good future.
