I found this really exciting and maybe my exuberance has bumped the score up a notch but hey ho. A new producer to me, this cuvee takes the BdB Extra Brut template and slaps on a dollop of richness and generosity. Broad-shouldered and textural, it shows ripe lemon, a little smoke, some leesy goodness. Drunk as an aperitif and it was fantastic.

67 Pall Mall post TWS Burgundy Tasting (67 Pall Mall): An intense glass, a powerful amount of fine spritz that takes your breath away. Very brioche and toast, great citric presence, excellent in small sips but a large swig would have made me fall off my chair I think. Very enjoyable.

This lovely cuvee delivered again. A BdB, but the elevage in wood really influences the textural and aromatic profile, even though it doesn't smell or taste overtly oaky. It's rich but still dry and elegant, full of flavour and really quite long. It worked well as an aperitif but was awful with my ceviche, though!

Enjoying the beautiful weather we wait so patiently for along the gulf coast. A nice glass of Champagne enhanced the experience of being outside with the long shadows of the evening.
Most notable was the beautiful creamy texture and beautiful coloring in the glass. I like this a lot and could easily go back to Houston Wine Merchant for more.
Absolutely love this ... especially when price is factored in. Apple / yeast / brioche this is just succulent. Kind of want to gulp this down. Don’t understand the mediocre professional reviews but hopefully will keep the price attractive. Delish. (93)

Pale golden. Integrated oak. Honey. Slight yoghurt and vanilla. Rich. Was noted as requires air, but also pretty splendid straight off bottle. Almost oxidized opening. Improved when aired, but really not that much. Mineralic. Obvious toast, almonds/nuts. Rich. Enjoyable. Still good number of years left. (Bottle disgorged December 2015.) Recommended!

This shows a touch of vanilla, dusty cinnamon, saline, bisquit notes--very expressive, maybe just a touch too much oak influence. Still, this is full-bodied but cut, good freshness, long finish. 50/50 '12 and '13; 100% fermented in used oak 10-24 mo. At the estate with Charles Fourny.

This bottle disgorged 2018, but tasted nicely mature: rich golden colour, soft (maybe too soft) mousse, rich and persistent yeasty brioche flavours. Really enjoyable, deep, sophisticated and long.

From a 1 hectare vineyard atop limestone and clay soil and disgorged in May of 2015, this is a wine of place and pedigree. Lemon citrus, loquats, yeast, baked bread, and mineral aromas are a hint honeyed and autolytic. There’s an immensity of energy and flavor on the palate, where it flaunts focus and drive, beautiful fruit, weightless foam, impeccable balance, and a perfect tension between freshness, salinity, and bottle age complexity. Closes the deal with limestone minerality on the zesty finish. An excellent non vintage and a phenomenal match for the spicy Sichuan fare it was paired with.

This is lot 60043, made of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir from the Vertus 1er Cru terroir from 60+ years old vines with smaller dosage of 3-4 g/l. First slightly reductive, opening up with some air in the glass. Minerally notes of steel, chalk, some hazelnuts, some brioche and small yellow fruits as well as some chamomile and flowers. It's pretty full-bodied with medium-high acidity and smaller mousse, not very sparkly, more on the vinous side. Pretty long finish with a lot of minerally tension. First it didn't have that much mid-palate density for the pretty big body but it's definitely gaining some weight with some additional air. A very good Champagne that could probably use another year or two of bottle age, but it's hard to resist now, especially at this price...

A private dinner at a friend's (London, UK): A blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, over 60 year old vines, two consecutive vintages (50% each), 18 months in foudres, at least four years on the lees. An opulent Champagne, in which the luscious oak is very present but the toast and vanilla never dominate the ripe citrus fruit and the elegant freshness although the minerality is a bit suppressed; rich flavours, good length.

Quite a different champagne this time. Lots of great apples, some citrus in the background, great bubbles and a fair mousse. Would not have guessed extra brut. Very good champagne with great QPR, but I preferred my previous tasting, when the bottle was very young, exremely dry and very lemony, and still had quite a lot of oak first night - the champagne was not really drinkable until 24 hours after opening.

New Year Celebration; 12/31/2013-1/1/2014: Bottle degorged in May 2012. When we opened the bottle it was a bit disappointing compared to the Ulysee Collin Les Perrieres in the glass next to it. But then after around 10 minutes the wine started to develop flavors of brioche, walnuts and caramel. It turned a bit into an elegant and light version of a Krug Grande Cuvee. I must say, this was my first bottle of Veuve Fourny and I must say that these are wonderful Champagnes. I expect this wine to develop wonderful notes when it is a bit older.

Ex cellar. Tasted with Charles-Henry Fourny. Bring out the Beluga, boys: this is one superb but very demanding Charlie. Full bodied, savoury style, masculine and uncompromising. Layers of nutty, steely complexity. I usually refrain from tedious food suggestions but gut instinct tells me this would pair fantastically with blinis, smetana, and a generous helping of the black gold.

Very complex nose with oak. A nice mousse, a broad palate, with smoke, mixed with citrus. No sweetnes to speak of (extra brut), which gives an extraordinary focus on the citrus, as there is little distractions except for the oak. Great length. Day 2: An extraordinary crispy citrus with great length, distinct and mouthfilling. Still fine day 3.

A bit restrained though definitely delicious, fresh nose of ripe green apple, dough and some sour citrusy fruit, with a constantly increasing aroma of oak. Precise, dense mousse totally covers the palate and is extremely persistent. Rich and concentrated - creamy even - on the palate, displaying notes of fresh green apple, citrus, yeast, spices and a hint of oak. Really tight and powerful overall, ending with a loooong finish. Even though this was aged for four years on the lees it doesn't have a very aged flavor profile. It's actually not very hedonistic at the moment, but will most probably be great eventually. Even a bit harsh right after PnP at fridge temp, this wine definitely evolves in the glass when getting air and warming a bit. Yes, this is what many others are saying, but I would really like to bury a bottle or two in the cellar and taste again in a year or five. An Extra Brut with a lot of stuffing, kinda has that "proper white Bourgogne with bubbles"-vibe.

Champagnedagen 2012 (Grand Hotel, Stockholm): Discrete oak notes, very mineral, good concentration, good acidity, long aftertaste with salinity and gravel character. Rather young. 91-92+ p. Vinified in small oak barrels, base wine from 2008 and 2007.

A blend of 90% Chardonnay with 5% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier. The context was more about the company and the cause celebré than the wine. Nevertheless, the loveliness fo the wine reaches out impressing everyone with its richness. A lacey, fine mousse. A profile of baked apple and orange zest; a finish of chalk and biscuit. Between the two the Fourny telltale nutmeg knits the attack and finish snugglely together. 12% alc. With BBH to celebrate her (and yet another) promotion along with cheeses, ham, crusty bread, molé. Highly Recommended.

Piedmont at Tilia's: Pale yellow color. Reserved nose featuring mainly dough/yeast and mineral with just a touch of oxidation and not much in the way of fruit aromas. Explodes with flavor in the mouth. The mousse provides great texture. Shows nice acidity by mid-palate and finishes very long. Shows some character overall, but is fairly straightforward.

I enjoyed this very much! I think a couple years btl age would really make this round out, smooth out the edges and make it sing. That said, this is really classy pure Champagne with a nice yeasty flowery nose and an intriguing palate. Not austere like some low dossages. I'll likely buy a btl or 2 more to age.

Named in honor of their father, the freres Fourny (their mother still participates in the business, but they handle day to day issues) make this cuvée for their father’s favorite method - blending 90% Chardonnay with 5% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier. It is very rich; even unctuous. The mousse is incredibly lacy and fine. The attack is orange zest and baked apple with chalk and mineral quick on their heels. The finish? Yeah, that’s biscuit! Somewhere in there, the Fourny telltale nutmeg weaves a thread. This is one delicious champers. 12% alc. With oyster turnovers with apple horseradish sauce and grilled oysters. Highly Recommended.

This wine was a really pleasant surprise. When first introduced to the wine by the head sommelier at Richard Juhlins Champagne Bar in Stockholm, I was a bit frightened by the fact that the wine was a recently released NV Extra Brut. This turned out to be a totally ungrounded conclusion, as the wine rests for 4 years on the second fermentation.
The wine is rich and oaky, but with a very pleasant acidity and purity. After tasting the first bottle I instantly ran and bought another box. I think this is going to be an even greater wine in 5 to 10 years time.

The first thing you notice is the big nose. Yeasty, lemon curd, and nutmeg. A profuse mouse and a light yellow with a greenish tinge. The mouth is medium full with pink grapefruit, green apple and a nice tart lively acid. Great match for a bowl of white wine fennel mussels!

How much champagne can you drink in a day?; 8/7/2010-8/8/2010 (Reims, France): Yeasty, nutty with some floral aromas. Little prunes. Oaky, similar to the Blanc de Blancs Melli. interestingly these two are the only really oaky and buttery wines as all are aged in oak. Almost a pastry flavor peaking through. Almost like a still chardonnay. Sharp acidy and sugar.

Really interesting high-quality cuvée, but obviously not from the same vintages that blew us away in 2008. The parts of the blend still fight for attention. Yeasty, nutty aromas. Yellow apples. Serious grapefruit and mineral structure. Tart green apples and skins on the finish. Handcrafted premier cru chardonnay from Vertus with a dash of pinot noir, fully vinified in oak casks and matured in bottle for four years before disgorgement. This version is still young and needs some more time. Lovely wine, be patient.

The Fourny prestige cuvée that delivers an energetic mousse and a body full of bubbles. Still tightly wound and probably best held for a few more years, it nevertheless offers up apple, biscuit, hazelnut, nutmeg and toast with a certain creamy mouthfeel. As the wine opens, the flavors deepen. A blend of 15% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Menuier and 70% Chardonnay. With sea trout topped with a celery root and hazelnut “salad”at The Grocery. Highly Recommended.

Fabulous. Drank it to launch a Thanksgiving feast and it was tremendous. Tight, tiny bubbles, delicious, full flavored grape. A memorable wine.

Bread and yeast, dried apricots and raisins, baked green apple. Subtle despite the oak treatment. Deceptive power.
