Grand Siecle needs about 5yrs in bottle to really show well (makes it much richer and more biscuity). Young it isn’t integrated… some mid-palate but a short tart finish. I’d score 91pts. From BA lounge not my cellar. With 5yrs 94-95pts. However the 25 iteration (previous release with 25 on neck) is a big step up - 93pts now and 96-97pts in time. This Cuvee is getting better, just now this bottle

An Epic Summer Wine Weekend - Year 2; 6/30/2023-7/2/2023 (Muskoka, Ontario, Canada): This pours medium straw in the glass. The nose is lovely, airy, and floral with cold cream, a touch of fresh pastry, light garlic notes, a touch of rubbery reduction, and lemon juice. The palate is nicely balanced with slightly elevated dosage, and high cutting acid. I do wish I could have spent more time with this bottle as it was consumed fairly quickly. A wine that failed to impress given high expectations.

An older Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle, prior to the iteration showing on the neck. Based on the cork code (A51EP) I think this was disgorged in the first quarter of 2015. I believe this was the ‘99, ‘02, ‘04. A noble GS. Elegant, and tasting much younger than its assumed age. Complex and balanced. Medium bodied citrus, peach, ginger, with a nice mineral core.

Unfortunately we couldn't find out what bottling this was, but we know it has spent atleast 7-8 years in the bottle.
It was nice and mature at this point but it had not lost its freshness or bubbles at all! Great notes of baked apple, baking spices, brioche, butter, lemon, pickled lemon, buttermilk and on the tongue there was a slight metallic/iron note like pennies? A really nice depth and balance to it at this point.

Every time I open an older Grand Siecle, I marvel at the quality. Elegant, balanced and deep. Full bodied honeyed citrus, ripe peach, ginger, and more. Mineral core, subtle warm brioche, hazelnut. Judging from the cork code, this was disgorged in the second quarter of 2017. I believe that makes it either Iteration 22 ('99-'02-'04) or 23 ('02-'04-'06).
Grande bouteille, Bravo !

Clear light gold. Intense nose, bread dough, pastry, lemon curd, mineral, apricot and white flowers. Dry lemon, pastry and orchard fruit flavours. The finish is rich but dry.
Really great wine. Lots of character, no oxidation. Less savoury than Comtes but more fruit and dough notes. Pretty sure this is the #23.

By the glass at the BA lounge LHR. Freshly opened bottle. It’s a wine that has a love and hate or hit and miss relationship with us. This time it was a lot better than we remember from past visits and albeit youthful and bright had a nice texture and energy as well as depth of flavour. Annoyingly as always they provide no disgorgement or vintage composition details which destroys any attempt to track it down but always a joyful wine. Also it always leaves you with the “ I was expecting more feeling “. 92-93

This bottle must have had some very interesting storage as there was a real hedonistic rich side to it. Orange blossom, pear, and stem ginger, the sweet spiciness was something to behold. A marzipan like nuttiness followed, but there was such a clean line of acid and fine mousse it all just worked.

By the glass at the BA Lounge. Freshly opened . Elegant yet also sharp with tart apple and firm mineral core. For the lovers of aperitif or goûté française style of wine but also feels a bit incomplete for us as it lacks a light effortless feel that all great champagne needs to have . Good but for the status we always expect more .91-92

bright canary yellow color, lemon grass on the lively bright nose, light cream notes, toasted almonds, on the palate youthful lemon notes with crisp acids, the beginning of cream notes just coming into play, toast and limes on the long finish, not as complex as the greatest tete de cuvees but in all other respects a fine and elegantly spritely champagne.

I think this was the '02, '04 and '06 blend. The cork was stamped A81GF, which I believe signifies disgorgement during the first quarter (A) of 2018 (81 being an inverted 18). They've since eliminated the secret codes and labeled each iteration clearly. These are always a blend of three vintages, and always very good. Of all the champagnes I drink, these seem to need the most time. This bottle was delicious but still painfully young. Orange peel and citrus, ginger; full bodied yet reticent. Refined and complex. I keep drinking these then writing "wait several years". For me, experience is the ability to recognize my mistakes as I repeat them.

Recent purchase brought by Ron; showing really well. I've had a few of these recently(in the last year or two) without any significant age on them and they were really reticent, tight, a bit boring. This was showing well though, good character, lively, med rich, and killer with the ceviche. DD at Cotzen's.

Outdoor mostly masked socially distanced B-day party: I don't know what iteration this was, but it had some edges rounded by age, compared to other bottles I've had. I'm guessing '99-'02-'04. This was one of the better champagnes I've had this year (and I've had many!). Elegant! Delicious! Zesty yet at the same time soft lemon and lime, minerals and white flowers. The crowd favorite.
Cork says A61EB. Finally figured out that this means disgorgement Q1 2016. According to my research this is iteration 22 (please correct me if you know more), meaning 98,99,02 vintages and 99 being predominant. Parker gave this 95. I agree. Best I have. Period.
At the moment, this bottle shows no sign of age. I'm not sure if it was the '99-'02-'04 version or the '02-'04-'06, although I suspect the former as it had more '04 than '06 character. It was a great bottle. Very fresh and elegant. Mineral laden lemon, lime, white flowers. Our bottle improved with air, and the last glass was the best.

NYEve with Steve & Lucie (At our place, then Knickerbocker): PnP, chilled. This was definitely an old bottle as it was labeled as "La Cuvee". Upon opening, two of us thought it was simply displaying an "aged" profile, the other two believed it was corked. This bottle was put aside and a different champagne was opened. The remainder of the bottle was consumed the next day and it was clearly an old bottle (maybe 20 years or more) that showed some oxidation, but was drinkable. No rating.

Yellow colour. Powerful. Oxidative style. Touch of oak. Low on sugar. True grand marq character. Rich, polished. Cork code A61 which means disg. 1Q16 so must be 24th iteration (2007/2006/2004). Blend of 55/45 CH/PN coming from 11 Grand Crus.
10-12 year old bottle. Darker golden hue. Wonderful nose showing bruised apples, ripe lemons, butter, nuts, autolysis, soap and chalk - all of it coated in some sweet oaky note. Palate gave more sunripe lemons, orange peel, apples, rust, salts, and wet stone. More youthful than the bottle I had with same provenance 11 months ago, which overall showed better (bar fading bubbles, which I do not mind). Lovely. 93-94p.

It's tough to follow the 160eme Krug, but this carried the burden. There was a savory mushroom note upon opening, and I initially feared it might be slightly corked, but the must blew of rather than amplified with time in the glass. Still very savory, a dense and long finish, very mildly oxidative-nutty, with a fine persistent bead. This bottle was a blend of three vintages from the mid '90s, based on the label and the foil.

Cork said D71.., which my research tells me means disgorgement in Q4 2017 and a 2006 (70%)-2004-2002 blend (apparently L-P GS #23). Huge presence both on nose and, particularly, palate. Intensely perfumed, multi faceted. Fruits and mature aromas are fiercely battling for your attention. I call it a draw! Fantastic structure in the mouth. What a depth! If only the dosage had been a little lower, (the ripe fruits do not need much support in that departement, me think) I would have scored it 1-2p higher. Believe this would be best with at least 5 more years of cellaring, but do not necessarily think this one is for the long haul. Perhaps 10+ years max?
Very elegant as always, energetic and with a lovely balance. Not a flamboyant champagne , has restraint but also has the depth and balance . Its a shame they dnt give nay disgorgement dates as we would have liked to see any possible evolution but still for this level of wine we forgive them the oversight. 92-92

NYEve with Steve & Lucie (Knickerbocker): Opened at our place before going out to dinner. Allowed to slo-ox for 15 minutes. Any loss of effervescence was imperceptible - given that a bottle of Champagne starts with about 50 million bubbles. A fine and creamy mousse showed throughout the 45 minutes of consumption. The slo-ox seemed to release more aromatics, including baked apple and a hint of honey. These followed on the mouth filling palate, along with a good dose of white fruits, but only a light presence of brioche/toast (to our liking), and a nicely balanced acidity. Dry, but may appear a bit less so due to its fruitiness. Quite a few TNs mention that the wine seems reduced upon opening. I suggest a 15 minute slo-ox to allow the wine to open and show its stuff. The L-P website says that this wine is a blend of 3 vintages, and is 100% from 11 Grand Cru plots of Chard and PN. However, there is no specific info on the bottle, or the website, about the specific vintages, the blend, or the disgorgement date. We agree with many other TNs that this info should be on the bottle.

Medium amber/gold color with very fine bubbles that quickly disappear. Lemon peel, apricot, brioche, roasted almond nose. Grapefruit, chalk, key lime and toast round out palate. An interesting wine for those who may not be so adventurous, but not the most complex for those who seek something out of this world.

From the same lot as the bottle tasted and posted on here almost 3 years ago: full straw color; a very mild "whoosh" on opening and very faint, docile bead movement; original nose and flavor profile showed maturity, ripe orchard fruit and hints of butterscotch on the finish. Then it oddly seemed to "youthen" in the glass, taking on more quince, peach, lemon and chalky minerality. Good acidity still and the toffee thing on the finish seemed to come and go. Very pleasantly complex wine.

(from an older selection released in the '90s). Delicate, fine chalky minerality, butterscotch, brown sugar. Shows an almost confection sweetness to the aging fruit. Supple and silky palate feel with well judged acidity. As it warmed up, it shows more of everything. Lots of chardonnay dominated fruit characteristics. 93.

I'm not a fan of Laurent Perrier's other wines, but this was a very good prestige cuvee. Nutty, honeyed, and rich, but only just. Sweet almond and pear driven with a deep biscuity roux-like background. Very fine mousse, there is definite a good dose of mature wine here. Power, subtly used, with good vibrancy.

no disgorgement date -- agree with others that it's disappointing not to have that info, appears to be some batch variation. Light bead; light golden color. Nose some funk, ?reduced -- goes away some with time, but hard to get over, obscures other aromas. Palate much better, light brioche, golden apple, full bodied; some sweeter honey notes with time. 90 pts, mostly for the palate, but could be cleaner/more distinctive to my taste.

By the glass at the BA lounge, freshly opened bottle. Unfortunately with no disgorment dates or composition it's very difficult to comment on this wine consistently and over the years we have had our ups and downs and many times it was on the disappointing side. On the day it was actually pretty good and is almost worthy of its super Cuvee status in a way. On the soft and round side but quite energetic, light on the toasty , yeasty side but still with a good rich fruit profile and really the palate feel is what wins it at this stage for this wine. Very good 92

We are big fans of L-P's Cuvee Rose, but this is our first time with this wine. Aromas of apple, pie crust, and a hint of honey. These follow on the palate, along with some apricot, citrus, light brioche, and very nice acidity. A very good food champagne as it was excellent with Dover Sole in a buerre blanc (delayed Champagne Day). L-P says it is a blend of 3 vintages, and 100% from 11 Grand Cru plots of Chard and PN. However, there is no specific info on the bottle, or the website, about the vintages, the blend, or the disgorgement date. We agree with Papies that this info should be on the bottle as it would enhance the drinking experience.

Elegance describes this wine the best. Sophisticated nose with clementine, stone smoke, fresh pear and white flowers. Never too overwhelming but neither anonomious.
Round, full structure on the palate with a fizzy lingering acid. Some burned tones on the midpalate that disturbs the elegance. Good, but maybe too pricy?

No age indication anywhere, but according to the hearsay, this is supposed to be a blend of vintages 15 to 20 years old. The wine has been purchased and kept in a cellar since 2007, but the exact age of the bottle before that remains unknown.
Medium-deep yellow-green color. Rich, very complex and nicely matured nose with aromas of toasty and bready autolysis, honey and oats, some candied apricot tones, a little bit of oxidative nuttiness, hints of smoke and a touch of baked apple. Really a beautiful array of aromas you always look for in an aged Champagne. The wine is rich, full-bodied and surprisingly robust on the palate with ripe flavors of almost overripe red and golden apples, developed creamy tones, a little bit of candied ginger, light autolytic tones of brioche and toast, light oxidative tones of bruised apples and roasted nuts, a hint of cinnamon and a touch of crème à la vanille. The wine is moderately high in acidity and the mousse feels smooth, fine and creamy. The finish is nicely developed, complex and lengthy with nuanced flavors of oxidative nuttiness and bruised rep apple tones, some lemon zest, light toffee and caramel notes, a little bit of almost buttery creaminess, a hint of candied ginger and a touch of wizened yellow fruits.
A beautifully developed, complex and harmonious prestige cuvée with basically anything you'd want for in a mature Champagne: lots of rich, autolytic complexity, great structure, very fine and luxurious mousse, a kaleidoscope of tertiary notes and still a bright and remarkably youthful core of vibrant fruit. The wine wasn't cheap at 90€, but it still manages to deliver for the price. Beautiful stuff.

Had several glasses in BA lounge, and on plane over last couple of weeks. Always delivers, nice brioche and depth of fruit. However, I think I would not be happy buying this champagne for my cellar anymore - I think the LP vintage (2004 was fantastic in my view) offers more for a lot less money and being vintage vs a multi-vintage (which they don't even bother putting the blend on the bottle anymore) makes it traceable and possible to follow the development. Also I think other prestige champagnes from the other grandes marques are superior around the price tag (Taitting CdC, DP). Still always a pleasure to drink this.

We starting to believe that the current release ( we assume much like 4 months ago this is the same on the run release, nfortunately there is no way to tell) it's still on a tight streak and a touch reserved. Medium straw color, fine mousse. Profoundly mineral-driven nose, with the intense aroma of chalk. On the palate this is focused down the center of the tongue, with similarly persistent mineral flavors and a very tart note of green apple. This has ample effervescence, with the bubbles tickling the back of the throat on the finish. What flavors this has show depth and intensity, but this never broadens out sufficiently to hold my interest.

The wine was medium yellow-golden in colour and offered apricot, biscuit, honey and some vanilla on the nose. On the palate the wine showed lemon, lime, red apple, apricot, biscuit, honey and fine mineral notes, paired with a mild saltiness, forceful and creamy mousse, medium-plus acidity and incredible length. The medium-bodied champagne was sleek and so finely textured that it almost seemed fragile, and very clean, very elegant and very balanced. A great champagne! 92+

Incredibly subtle. Definitely needs time to conform to my palate, which I suppose makes sense given that it is primarily 2004 vintage, and LP's 2004 vintage was a little one dimensional to me.
Red apple, citrus, and just the slightest hint of smokey lees on the nose. The palate matches for the most part, with apple, lemon, and lime transitioning into a touch of smokey minerality. I would imagine that this will be quite nice in 3-4 years, but it's a bit underwhelming at this stage. I'd say it's really only a 90 now, but I give it a 92 for its aging potential.

I have been drinking a lot of the grower producers lately and missed a tete de cuvee...so decided to try this but I was somewhat disappointed. Definitely a good to very good wine but it missed that ethereal quality that a lot of the top houses are able to coax. Good acidity and mineral structure but not much else going on; a bit unbalanced and had that unappetizing quality that some cheap champagnes have. Happy it was my only bottle.

Acker BYO 2011 (Tribeca Grill): Brought in Magnum by Jonathan A. Very lively nose: grapey and leesy, with some wood. Even better on the palate - almost sweet, bready. Still needs time, but lots of fruit and a great mouthfeel. Green apples, grapes and a touch of honey. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 2/2 = 17.5/20.

Laurent Perrier "2010 Christmas Range" Tasting (Quintessentially Soho, London, UK): "Grand Siecle" means "Great Century" in French and refers to the 16th Century (the French age of enlightenment) and the reign of Louis XIV. The bottle was named by Charles de Gaulle as a favour from Bernard de Nonancourt, who is still running the Laurent Perrier house today, now well into his nineties. This LP also has a dominant Chardonnay blend but is far more austere than the previous NV's. The bubbles were truly fine, with hazelnuts, honey, almonds and pastry on the nose. The palate is savoury, but is far richer than even the 2000 vintage. This is one of the few Champagnes that I have tasted which balances weight and complexity with finesse and it's exquisite. *****

Expressive nose of vanilla, toast, lemon, orange peel, butterscotch and baked pear. Extremely fine on the palate with the trademark Grand Siecle ultra-fine and elegant mousse. Flavors of pear, vanilla, creme, orange and a long, pretty finish infused with minerals and vanilla.

We are big fans of L-P's Cuvee Rose, but this is our first time with this wine. Aromas of apple, pie crust, and a hint of honey. These follow on the palate, along with some apricot, citrus, light brioche, and very nice acidity. The bottle variation in terms of enjoyment and readiness is impressive in the is great quality wine which varies from a good NV to Krug grand cuvee. This one was in between a truly enjoyable wine without being mesmerising but still very very good. Star gazing power too given the brand. But they can do better and at least specify discorgement dates and mix of vintages if they want to really be top class. 92-93

Deep greenish yellow colour, lots of tiny bubbles. On the palate creamy and rich, Burgundian in style, soft, long and rich finish, with sweet lemony and brioche nose layered with apricots and honeycomb. Lovely champagne. I will buy some more.

Not as exuberant as the one we tried a year ago ( previous release?) and feels a bit ordinary to be honest. 91 at best and on the disappointing side.

Usually a glorious wine albeit a touch muted this time, especially on the nose. Good rich, ripe and firm with good structure and length. Not sure how long this has been open and maybe it has played with the nose. Felt a touch tired too. No rating this time.

Deeper colour than the first two Champagnes. On the nose, some musk and spice, with honey, hazelnuts and a lactic, cheese-like element (Brie de Meaux?). Aromas of an old Chardonnay (55% grand cru Chardonnay). Fairly sweet on entry. Vibrant fruit, with good concentration and a lovely acid balance. Finishes with nice minerality and chalkiness. An interesting and attractive Champagne. 92.

Starts with strongly sweet nose, like strawberry cake batter, but in the mouth tastes almost indistinguishable from a high quality Chardonnay, herbaceous, stone fruit etc... However, at the right temp and after opening up has a beautiful layering of biscuitiness, forest fruits, etc. finest and quickest bubble stream I've ever seen. (thanks, missesthe90s)
