My first Lafleur. Dark ruby. When first poured I thought this was Southern Rhone due to sweet fruit and barnyard. But this became classic bordeaux with some time in the glass showing lots of cigar and herbaceous notes. Asian spices emerge with more air. Shared by SW.

“Best Bottle” tasting in Fitzgerald, Rotterdam. (By JvT @ Fitzgerald): Very mature and still beautiful wine. Earth, mushrooms, still juicy dark berries, forest floor, some pleasant sweetness and still fresh acidity. Imho the wine is past its peak, but still a feast to taste. I don’t know who brought this wine, but thank you! A unique experience!

At Troisgros (Ouches) with BV, AA et al. One of the wines of the Summer. Superlative old Lafleur, drinking at its peak. So refined, but yet so rich and complex. Brilliant wine.

Wow, the magic happened here as we caught this perfect magnum in a perfect place of full maturity but no decline. So sweet and decadent with endless flavors of black truffles, smoked meats and dark floral things. Completely integrated, it simply glides over the tongue and left such a classic complex residue that all the other great wines tonight had to take a back seat. Fantasticly smooth with no hard edges and a wonderfully long smoky finish. A stunning wine and I would be hard-pressed to choose any other wine in the world for drinking tonight!

From magnum. Youthful in this format with a fantastic nose of black truffle, cedar, woodsmoke, graphite and hints of some higher toned including mint on the backnose. Seamless overall although the backpalate and tannins still could benefit from more time to fully compose themselves. 96-97
