This was decanted for a few hours, put back in the bottle and then followed over two nights. After some air time, some pleasant aromas of spices, toasted raisin bread, darker fruits, and a hint of that "bordeaux funk" that I like (and in prior notes have labeled "grandpa's sweaty old cardigan", because it is like a combo of wool and gentle b.o. notes). Not as promising on the palate, unfortunately, a bit constrained and acidic. I think time will be a friend of this wine for sure. Try to hold for 10 years before cracking another. Not a great vintage of LB, but a very nice wine for sure, and in time I think this will merit a higher score. (Interestingly enough, I recall Langoa Barton being the bigger wine (so far) in this vintage ...)

Lovely blackberry, dark currant nose. Medium bodied, silky tannins and impressive persistence. A noble effort for the vintage, the wine has a liveliness and freshness to it. Very enjoyable on opening but will surely round into form with a few more years in the bottle. Hard to resist now given the deft oak management. One of my favorite producers, sorry that I did not buy this in quantity.

Mellow. Subtle. Brilliant. A nose of sweet honey, with a touch of leather. Fresh and lively. A fabulous wine. Drinking beautifully now.
The 2017’s: We have been through 6 bottles of Gloria; 6 of 12 bottles of Saint Pierre; and now our first bottle of Leoville Barton.
2017 may be very approachable in it’s youth in Saint Julien, but it is not a troubled vintage at all. Enjoy!

Nose Wants a steak. Lots of tannin still.
No rush. Not a good value but good. Probably should have waited 10 years.

Very good and promising wine. Should reach 94-95 in 5 years.
