Offering up aromas of dried cherries, incense, sweet soil tones and orange rind that mingle with notions of dried thyme, Indian spices and leather, the 1965 Clos des Papes is medium to full-bodied, supple and elegantly textural, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and powdery, largely melting tannins, concluding with a sapid and impeccably balanced, albeit not hugely long, finish.

Needed 2 hours of opening... Nose of sous-bois, champignons, red cherries... taste of very sweet red berries, nice acidity and nice lenght (30 seconds) amazing for a 50 years old Chateauneuf!! Be careful if you taste these old Chateauneufs, as after opening they sound thin and acid... give them plenty of slow-ox (min 2 hours) and NO decant if you wanna get the max out of it!

SQN vs C9duP and some extra's (@ PC): This was a revelation! I did not make formal notes. After the "official" tasting the host opened this 1965 wine and it was still alive and kicking! Very mature alright, but still nice and drinkable. Even some red fruits. Beautiful acidity. Dissolved tannin and a real pleasure still. I did not score the wine at the moment of drinking, but somewhere between 88 and 91 is probably quite right.
