Dinner at B&A: Blind. Mid ruby to a dense garnet. Classic pencil lead with a hint of tobacco suggesting left bank claret. Tannin to fruit profile and evolution makes me think of 86. So right bank and must therefore be VCC, but way off on ages. Turns out to be 99 which perhaps explains the dryer slightly recalcitrant tannin profile. A good 99 but I’m not sure the fruit will outlast the structure, so maybe one to enjoy now. ***1/2

Paired against VCC 2004. Both wines were double-decanted around 1h prior to serving. A delicate, elegant wine with finest layers of sous-bois, leather and tobacco with a present light and red berry fruit. Weightless palate with a structure that is fading now leaving you with an overhang in acidity. Gains intensity with time. Started off in a clear pole position. Such level of detail and beautiful aging notes with a nose that is pretty much as good as it gets. But the slight lack in structure only allowed for second place with the 2004 gaining in complexity with big strides.

Unfortunately this was stewed, but not showing any taint. Usually this is a glorious Pomerol at its peak.

Pnp. Rich and layered with wonderful dark fruit, herbs, spice, and cigarbox. Fully resolved and mature. 93+

Nose of dark fruit, spices. Fresh palate, missing a bit of ripeness and omph though.
