  • Dinner at B&A: Blind. Served third in what turns out to be a VCC vertical. A dense ruby to dark garnet. As with its siblings tonight the colour is dense and more opaque still with little of the vibrant translucence that can come with maturity. This feels the most harmonious of the three, the structural elements nicely countered by reasonably dense if not plush fruit. Some spice and middle age development. Lovely. Another good 02. I think what’s in the glass here is better on paper than the 01 alongside, but I prefer the slightly more quirky 01, even if it’s not quite as it should/could be. ****

  • A fine wine from a fine estate who's annual recipe is always rather magical.
Whether it's the old vines or the combination of underlying dirt, this is again, a well made wine of significance in a year of consternation.

Decanted 1 hour magnum decanter. Likely optimal at 2hrs+.

Deep garnet( still some dark ruby), with no tawny edges

(Less fragrant than previously sipped vintages - must be vintage related)
    Black berries and cherries cassis
    Plums
    Spices
    Cedar
    Earth dried mushrooms

    Body medium+
    Alcohol high
    Acid medium
    Viscosity mouthfeel fully enveloped
Tannins medium, resolving after 2 hours, tannins present, chalky if not round
    Finish- long 60s+

A good wine, though with the price paid at auction, the QPR is..... Negative!🥴🥴🥴

All that said, this was a pleasant bottle, showing it's age, but with no fear of it becoming extinct.
I have another bottle.... I'll leave it for another 3-7 years in a cool cellar.

If I was buying, and I am, I'd choose a different vintage, though, this wine is hard to find. Supply demand...

  • A bit brickish rim. Dark core. Very complex nose. Fresh dark berries. Some soil. A bit of nice mushrooms. Very beguiling. Great! No harsh acidity. Everything is in balance. Resolved tannins. Long aftertaste. Not a bold wine in a very good sense!! 13.5 vol.

  • Salon Ficofi Paris walkabout tasting and dinner, no detailed tasting notes. From DMG, mature, melted tannins, tertiary, a little short for this Cru.
