Very dark red color. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 3 hours. The nose is all about the funk, leather and pencil and ground tobacco perfume with the dark fruits lurking deep in the background until a couple hours down the road. The palate is medium plus bodied, very earthy, funk, soft, pencil, candied framboise, cassis, nuanced and suave, nice sleek tannins. With tonights bottle, the fruit was slow to emerge, but this was still drinking great with a bit leftover the next day. This has got 10 to 15 years easily. 93+pts tonight.

Nice, but I was expecting more. Reconditioned at the chateau in 2018. Masculine, old school Bordeaux on the nose, leather sofa, cassis, and cedar. More classic St Julian flavors, still plenty of fruit and life, a splash of green, and a bit of drying wood tannin. A decent amount of brett, enough to interfere a bit. Was also expecting a bit more amplitude in the middle palate, and while it definitely improves over 2 hours, it never really kicks into another gear.

Drank side by side with a 1995 Gruaud LaRose and the 1989 was the preferred wine. Nicely balanced, well aged Bordeaux. Full bodied with some residual but nicely integrated tannins. I tasted some blackberry, some dark cherry, light oak, leather and some herbs.

(Château Gruaud Larose) Tasted in a flight with the '82 and '86 Gruaud Larose: dark red violet; big cassis and oak nose; youthful and luxurious cassis and tart red fruit, cherry palate with leather edges; medium-plus finish

This had a very odd, slightly musty nose and weas stripped and short on the finish.

1989 Bordeaux Horizontal - London (Piccolino, Exchange Square): This bottle is not right, there's something very lactic about it. It had an iffy cork but not certain the problem is TCA.
