I'm not a fan of 2003s but this is now in a genuine sweet spot, and is a classic St Julien of a somewhat acid style (i.e. rather atypical). Won't make old bones. Drink up.

very approachable and very good bottled. opulent nose, dark fruits, spices and a touch of wood. the palate is luscious, seamless. it's ripe but not over the top as it can sometimes be with the 2003. still a lot in the tank.

Had this at a business lunch, so not a completely focused tasting … but it was superbly aromatic, true Beychevelle, all ST Julien elegance and structure and grassiness. But gentle rounded and absolutely firing on all cylinders.
Though at the finish, it was very slightly showing some firmness, not bitter, but hinting at some drying. Presumably not getting completely rid of the heat effects of the vintage. So all in all a very pleasant wine, i would not hesitate too long to drink, just to be sure to avoid potential drying out.

Deep and intense nose of cherry compote, a hint of French oak barrique. Dark ruby red in colour, mouthful of spicy red fruits and a lengthy finish, still very young and rather consistent with my previous notes!
