Deep ruby. Pronounced aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, green pepper, blackberry, black plum, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, cedar, charred wood, basil, violet, cola. High acidity, and high fine-grained tannins. Full bodied and long finish. Outstanding. And will improve further.

Well it’s been a long Road in the wine industry but this was one of my early acquisitions that I decided to age properly and Drink in it’s Time. Lovely Balance from a great vintage, soft tannins unfurled a beautiful Cassis and blackberry compote aroma, the structure is well integrated at this point, nice notes of cedar cigar box and stony earth, outstanding!

I can def see why Jeff Leve (3/21) gave this 95. First of 12 and further proof that these 09s are now drinking where 10s are still brooding and big. This was really good. Dainty, elegant, leaping nose. Tiny hint of Polo, Kea plum, and Twinings No4 Dark Grey tea. Long finish. Only gave it 15 mins in Zalto Universal (or was it Spiegelau Definition Universal from the subs bench?) and it really shone. Touch sweeter, and way more approachable than the 2005 St Julien we had as a side-by-side test. I can see this developing to 95/96 over the next half a score.

Feinduftig, floral, rauchige Noten, dunkle Frucht, Zedernholz, Lakritze; schlanker Gaumen, gradlinig, mit sehr guter Struktur, seidenweiches, gut verpacktes Tannin, ungemein knackig, lebendig, frisch. Langer, saliner Abgang. Hervorragend schon jetzt, mit sehr guten Reserven. Bis 2040 geniessen.
