This Redigaffi has a lot going on, lots of Bolgheri Merlot raw materials, obvious alcohol. Probably needs time to knit itself together but the quality is there. Didn’t get the delicious discrete flavors from the 2013. Definite discrepancy between the ratings here and the professionals. Prob falls somewhere in between leaning to the yeoman palates of CellarTracker.

2022 New Year's Day Tasting (Atlanta, GA): Darker garnet, ruby rim; sweet and youthful nose, red and black currant, licorice, strong oak influence, Bordeaux varietals with an Italian accent, many in agreeance even though it was hard to stray too far; called '12 Sassicaia, 93+.

New Year's Day Double Blind Tasting (Atlanta, GA): Tasted double blind. Dominant red fruit profile with a sweet Cabernet finish. However, the structure/tannin tipped me off that this was a Super Tuscan vs. a new world cabernet. I called it Solaia while others called it Sassicaia. We were all wrong, but at least we were close. This is a young wine that needs more time in the cellar.

The wine was tasted at James Suckling Wine Central, Hong Kong
2016 Tua Rita Redigaffi was seamless, fresh and nuanced. The youthful Tuscan Merlot was clear and medium ruby in colour. Aromas of dark plum, violet, cool blue fruits, and roses jumped out of the glass, accompanied with black forest cake and a touch of Balsamic quality.
The mouthfeel was dry and full-bodied, balanced with medium-high level of fresh acidity and velvety tannin. The seamless tannin was particularly noticeably after tasting several Brunello wines from the same vintage. Flavours of cassis, liqourice and black olives persisted in a long salty aftertaste. (93)

Very rich, almost “California like”. More alcohol than most Italian wines except Amarone…
