Decanted for 6 hours, at which time the first sip revealed a still impenetrable wine. Put it up against a wagyu ribeye which tamed the massive tannins, but only temporarily. Sipped the last half of the bottle as if it were scotch, and by hour 9 some of the fruit started to peek through. Lesson learned. Will let the others sleep for a minimum of 5 years. I hope.

Dark purplish. Complex nose and relatively expressive for 2018 - taming alcohol sure does help! Slightly creamy cassis, menthol, herbs. Dark liqueur berries are there too. Fruit not dominant, this is a thoughtful wine.
On the palate, it is dense, focused and layered with nice cherry acidity, carrying saline notes with it though no tight-sprung finish of minerality here. Instead gently coasting into a long cassis impression on the finish. Tannins still scrub the gums. Give it a hundred years. Or points!
This is a wine that lifts dark cassis while others are losing shape in the candy store. Wow! That cassis! 98 pts

Compared to the 2017 vintage, this vintage has riper fruits and richer texture. Nose and palate are filled with blue and black fruits, toasted spices, cocoa and river stones. This still had a touch of old world charm in the layered, rich and fresh full-bodied palate. Velvety tannins wrapped the aromatic elements in the lingering finish. Keep this away for 3 years before appreciating its complex phenolic. 93-95 pts.

Poured from a wine dispenser.
