Grand Sichuan, Jersey City edition (Grand Sichuan, Grove St.): Leftovers from the bottle that Seth posted his 4/19 note on. It's still holding up quite nicely, though doesn't show quite the same array of aromatic depth Seth described. The red fruited flavours here are quite gentle and play a supporting role to more savoury dried floral, herbal, and faintly leathery elements. Feels fully mature and perhaps slightly on the downslope, with the structure fully integrated here, and a graceful, silky texture on a mediumweight frame.

Decanted and poured into a Riedel Bdx glass. This is fully mature and in a good place. The color is deep and dark. Nose is mostly tertiary and secondary but there is some beautiful sweet dark fruit under the surface. Hints of tobacco & green leaves along with soy and carob and a wonderful nuttiness. Old study. The fruit is black cherry along w hints of cassis. Very refined. Maybe missing just a bit in amplitude. The palate is excellent - similar to nose but sweeter and a bit fuller. Still gentle and mature - more silky and classy than assertive. The alloy of the sweet dark 82 fruit with the tobacco and carob umami is lovely. Lots of velvety sweet fruit comes out in the middle: blackberry, black cherry and just a bit of cassis. There is a bitter lean point and the end middle. The finish starts out a little mute and lean but a really nice Unami nuttiness comes out w hints of the sweet fruit. A recent purchase from Acker’s internet auction for like $75 and I’m very happy with this. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 4.5-5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16-17.5/20.

DnP. Medium red brick coloured, orange tinged, 5. Really intriguing mature bouquet, black currant, herbaceous, cedar, complex. Harmonious palate, m-T, m+A, mB, dry, perfectly balance, dark fruits, long elegant finish. Drink now but will stay here for many years to come.
Tasted double blind from a small capped bottle (full bottles split for a zoom tasting). Nose of carob and nutty - tertiary & fully mature. Coffee or mocha - bitter coffee grounds is a good way. Celery. Palate is coffee and some bitter at start But sweetens and nutty comes out. Finish is a bit boney nutty quite dry and some tobacco. I was able to get the nose as mature BDX. probably from the 80’s but could have been 70’s. Lots of guesses then but others narrowed it to Margaux. Clearly not Palmer or Ch Margaux so someone guessed RS which didn’t seem right to me so I figured it might be Prieur Lichine and was correct. I guessed 83 but in retrospect the nose really shows the quality and luscious nature of the vintage. Really excellent showing and everyone agreed. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.
Day 2: better last night but didn’t finish the scoring. Still excellent on the nose and palate.

Wet earth and forest floor. A little leather. Beginning to fade a little
