Boiled beet root - earthy, sweet, funky (in a good way). Mushroom, barnyard funk, dried soil, turned soil, compost, dried cranberry, dried sour cherry, dried orange peel. Still lots of acid and tannin. If being critical, could use just a little more body. Optimum at 20 years, and this is 28. Pale garnet with orange rim. Signs of oxidation.

Beautiful Volnay. Drink or hold. Cherry, raspberry, wet earth, concentrated and deep. Well balanced.

Beautiful wine. Full of red cherries, strawberries, a touch of cranberry, perfectly balanced acidity, the finish goes on forever. Just a great Volnay.

Was expecting to be absolutely gobsmacked, and instead it was merely solid drinking if heavy handed Vouvray.

Waterford Wine Co. Burgundy Festival (Waterford Wine Co. - Milwaukee WI): Walk around tasting. Rich red fruit with subtle floral and spice background notes. Good weight, good+ length, good already now.
