Decanted one and a half hours in advance. As you would expect, some Browning on the rim, but a lovely deep garnet colour from a bottle bought en primeur for about £5 as part of a half case. High neck fill.
Lovely faded blackcurrant nose with an earthy background. On the palate, round, spicy, slightly earthy. Nice long warm finish and a truly delicious old claret to drink. Not past its best by any means, but will not improve.

One of a three vintage vertical from a friend's cellar. Double decanted a couple hours ahead. Closed at first, unyielding on the nose and on the palate. Seeming rather dull, with apparent low acidity, yet in the background were ample dark fruits. It took another 2 hours for it to really wake up, finally revealing leather, cigarbox, dark cherry, cassis, baking spices and rather firm tannins. Best among three vintages this time (83, 86, 88).

Recent purchase. This must have been stored extremely well. The cork was pretty soaked but the wine itself showed no bricking. Tertiary elements abound with some dark red fruits bringing the wine together. A nice, if not special, example of aged Bordeaux.

En Primeur campaign for the 2022 vintage Day Four (Bordeaux): From Double Magnum. Dark hued fruit, sweet spice, earth and mushroom. Fresh, tannic burr, the fruit translates to the palate as well, tannic burr, long. Lovely.

Peta (plus others) big birthday celebration (Peta & Loic's place, Croydon(ish)): Fresh red berries, blackcurrant, a little bonfire, slight pyrazine, smoky notes, slightly jubey and a touch of damp cellar. Red and black fruit, talc textured drying tannins, fresh, a little leather, smoke. Lovely.
