Aussie Night 2.0 (Buellton, CA): I hadn't had this for a few years. Still youthful, the wine has smoothed out any edges and has settled into a graceful middle age with ease. Bright cherry notes, white and green pepper, some anise, iodine and eucalyptus. A stark contrast with the Rockford Basket Press we paired it with, and my preference on this evening.

Really enjoyed this, very unique style for a SA shiraz, this is not fruit bomb at all. Definitely in the savoury end of the spectrum, feels like rugged terrain in a bottle, gum trees, fennel, earth, black cherries and lovely undergrowth and herbal flavours. Wonderful example of Wendouree shiraz, medium weight only, well balanced, great length and tannins a highlight. Less about vibrant, bold juicy fruit and more about a great expression of place in the glass. I think this is why people seek out Wendouree, such a unique style quite unlike most others.

A more elegant, urbane even, Wendouree. Medium-light rim, dark core.
Blue fruits and plum, gamey leather and milk chocolate on night one concede to trademark walnut and coal dust night two, albeit in a lower key. An understated Wendouree nose.
Beautiful poised palate. No more than medium weight but all the better for it. Flavours echo the nose, dark cherry, leather-strap oak, muted fine tannin, with superb acid balancing the whole act - similar to Andrew67’s note (I also got tobacco when tasted in 2013). Fine acid balance a recurring theme with the 09, 10 and 14 W Shiraz.
Drinking well and another 5-10 years. A cousin of the refined 2004 Wendouree. Classy.

An excellent wine. Really well balanced with acidity and tannin in harmony. The fruit is restrained and sophisticated with red fruits, blueberry, tobacco leaf. So much more to give, but really nice right now.

Hosting GC from WB: Spice, roses, redcurrant, cherry and licorice - plenty of aromatic intensity. There is a similar intensity on the palate, which has opened up over the past couple of years. Still has good structure and depth, this is very, very good and will continue to improve from here.
