Medium bodied, flavours of currants, raspberry, raisins, vanilla and caramel, long and smooth on the palate. Great clarity, ruby blood red with tinges of brown. Creamy, well balanced, very smooth, wonderful drinking.

Fresher, lighter, more playful than the older Wynns we opened tonight. Darker richer burgandy colour, fine clear meniscus. Tastes of bright fruit, cherry, vanilla, leathery tanins long on the palate. Spicy nutmeg aromas, smooth finish. We chose the worst bottle from the cellar, that was mid neck in level and had a wet cork that had leaked somewhat, but was still incredible, so bodes well for the remainder.

Bottle was low, below the shoulder, but was still exceptional Still a deep rich Cabernet colour, but slightly brown in the edges. Plenty of length and depth. Still felt at its peak and still drinkable for 20 years. Very interesting that a former Jimmy Watson winner with a failed cork was still such an elegant wine.

Christmas Lunch (Golden Century, Sydney): Great rich red colour. Nose shows sweet old red fruit and leather. The palate is better, fully resolved and elegant. Finishes a touch shorter than desired but it doesn't detract from this being very good.

Auction purchase. Level at very high shoulder. Label stated it contained 1 pint, 6 fluid ounces. The original cork was sound and removed whole with a distinct and reassuring 'pop' as it left the bottle. The color was amazing - still wonderfully deep with an aged tinge. Aromas of cassis, tobacco and cedar and dried herbs. The palate was drying out but still gave immense pleasure. Some evidence of dark berry fruit remained, with a long and slightly lean traverse through the mouth. It had definitely seen its peak years ago, but for it's age and price at release, was remarkable all the same.
