First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind. Earth, leather, spice, mint, eucalyptus, brambles. Medium plus intensity acidity, cream, blackcurrant, leather, fresh, lovely, touch of rancio, almond/walnuts, touch of oxidation here as well. I knew this was my Wynns.

Monthly tasting - Cabernet Sauvignon / Blends (JM (SL)): Tasted blind. Capsicum, leather and cassis nose, showed clearly its Coonawarra origins. Slightly flat on the palate, typical aged Coonawarra Cab notes and all in all in reasonable condition for its age. A pleasant wine in its twilight years. Unknown provenance, drink up. [TK]

Wynn's Black Label vertical (Frank's place in Matraville): Nutty, oxidised, baked apple and red currant, biscuit on the nose. Sherried on the palate as well, biscuit, toast, nutty, but with tannins. Wrong but right. It's flawed for what it should be but nice to drink if you didn't see the label and went exceptionally well with the cheeses. FLAW

Old shit at Mal's (Mal's place, Melrose Park, Sydney): Meaty, a little damp cellar, pencil shavings, baked green capsicum, a little tomato, pyrazine, leather. Juicy, fleshy, fresh, softly tannic, balanced, cream with coconut, vanilla and those green notes. Oddly compelling and, well, nice.

Coravin fun - old new arrivals (My place, Kent Street): Decanted slowly for about 20 minutes. Baked earth, sweet spices, mint, leather, a touch of oxidation lends an almond note, caramel, oak, old raspberry jam if you can imagine such a thing. Juicy, savoury, fleshy spiced old black fruit, still some gentle burr, almond and chocolate notes, cream, vanilla, travels long. Cork was totally saturated and moist to the touch but this was bloody lovely. Results.
