This was very pleasing. Magnum with cork seal. Cork broke into two pieces as extracted but what little crumbs of cork there were was removed during decant into two decanters (through a fine cloth). This also removed some fine sediment. Allowed to breathe for close to two hours. In the glass the colour was a dark red tending to brick red, in the decanters the colour was impenetrable black, the bouquet was lush fruit red and dark berries and a splash of chopped tobacco/cigar box. The fruit, wood and acid were all in balance. Full bodied, excellent length and still in a mid secondary stage. If you have any magnums you could safely cellar them for another decade. 93+

Savoury nose of smoky and dusty blackcurrant, olive, vanilla, deli meats, and tobacco. Oak seems to be adding a different aroma than usual for this wine.
Fine, grippy tannins, yet the main structural element is acid. Sour-edged blackcurrant-dominated palate, that is somewhat lacking in freshness.
Opinion: This bottle had developed faster than expected. Looks better after a couple of days open, despite the initial lack of freshness. A slow-ox required at a minimum.

Deep, garnet rim; black fruits, coffee grounds, fulsome; bags of dark fruits, has backbone, full on; dynamic finish. Very long. No need to rush.
