  • 2.5 hour decant… next time, I will aim to open and decant 3.5 hours before guests arrive.

For a Bordeaux, this is a fairly jammy wine with low acidity and complex tannins that are well integrated through and through. Very easy to drink. No off notes.

Open now without any regret, but don’t drink before 3 hours of patient decanting.

  • Drank from 375. First day couldn't get much from it, these notes are after bottle being open for 2 days.

Not much nose still, faint black/red fruit (blackberry and raspberry) but very closed off. The very beginning of some herbal notes the longer it's in the glass. Palate more open - pretty strong cranberry note/texture from young tannin, but with some nice tart cherry/black cherry mixed in. Very creamy texture, reminiscent of big/dark Napa cabs in their youth. Approaches a kind of char note but doesn't quite get there.

Big picture, still way too early to drink, but goodness knows I've got enough stored away and decided to take a flier on a cheap half bottle to see what I was working with. Next time will try with a much longer decant vs sitting in the bottle.

  • Fantastic bouquet of ripe blueberries, grilled peppers, mint. Inky, fruity palate, tons of ripe berries, mint, still quite some grip, leading to a long finish. Every once in a while drinking such a young wine is a huge pleasure.

  • Today's encounter with this wine is very similar to that noted in July 2022: polished, round, lovely, and fragrant, the 2019 Léoville Poyferré really does burst from the glass with perfectly ripe raspberry, black cherry, floral perfume, and pencil. This feels polished without being overly coiffed; the tannin is actually a good counterpoint to the overall elegance of the wine though it's refined enough (and the aromatic elements are lovely enough) that this might well drink by age 12 - though the sève and acidity suggest a very long life ahead. The '19 Poyferré has a real noblesse.
